I just finished this. I'm just going to dump my thoughts here.That was... an interesting watch. I liked it but I couldn't help but think that something felt wrong all along. Overall, I think it was a great show with an ambitious visual direction. The movie oozes with reference to subculture, but never feels ungenuine (aside from 1-2 things). It captures the essence and the code of its inspiration and manage to mix it into their own thing. It's great to see.I was a huge Vocaloid fan and love idol anime, so the entire theme immediately appeals to me, although I started that movie with much apprehension because of that World is Mine scene. In hindsight, the song was quite pertinent even though I'm not a fan of the remix. It might have impacted my opinion, but that's not really the thing that bothered me the most. I'm not a fan of yuri in particular either, but I don't hate it. The character dynamic works quite well, if anything. It's a common and popular trope, but that's kinda the point.But I think this is the major problem with this movie. It's too "fanservice-y". You could call it a "love letter" to idol culture and moe anime and I wouldn't disagree, but I felt like they were trying too hard. There are a lot of scenes in CPK where you can feel they put them in simply because it looked cool. Ultimately, the core of the story, the relationship between Iroha and Kaguya, and all the meaningful subtleties that should have been highlighted kinda get lost in the noise of the sakugafest and subplot threads. For instance, they don't really leave time for the tense or sad moments to set in. They often rush to the resolution or the next step.In the end, I still liked it. I can't hate it. And I love Kaguya's seiyuu. She's so talented. I hope this can be a sort of breakout role for her. She voiced Rio-tan.
