I think the most straightforward interpretation would just be "the emotions she's feeling are genuine, the actions she takes to express those emotions are performative". It's entirely plausible that she's bad at expressing her emotions, got burned by that as people think she's aloof and so keep their distance from her, and now has to try to perform what the Average NPC thinks of are appropriate displays of emotion. Obviously, that wouldn't encompass the entirety of her issues. It wouldn't explain why her first band up and abandoned her like that. But I guess Occam's razor wouldn't necessarily have to apply to menheras. She could be bad at empathy AND bad at expressing her honest emotions. (Wow she's liberally me!!1!)
