Even if the staff were better, the basic premise he gave still involved going through a bunch of Keiichi focused arcs with repeating tragedies happening to him and the club, but in the end you're supposed to forget all that and just focus on Rika vs Satoko. Even if the dialogue in their confrontation had been better and hadn't been made just about high school, , the ending basically requires Rika doesn't care about anything Satoko does, and Satoko's crimes ending up not having any negative consequence to her.This could work if the point of the story was to show them both as inhuman, but it was meant to show them growing as people and moving on in their own way, which requires ignoring most of the story itself to work.
