New chapters released:Chapter 50
Holy fucking shit finally
Wait, I found something better.
>>285664639Wait what happened first, his lizard wife leaving or him getting trapped in the underwater cave? Its been so long.
>>285665183Their hair care has swapped, Susuki's is more orderly while the dude is a mess
Having a little connection trouble.
>>285665752He has a point, maybe doctors are the real sickos.
>>285666133Mou bodies, Mou problems
>>285665526I bet you're just dumb and can't do the captchas
anon is onto me
>>285667406>>285667420Damn they prposefully try to get you hurt
>>285667480I think its more specific than that. I think that they needed lizardman scales for a medicine, and this was their way of getting them.
>>285664545what is going on? has the official english release caught up? i assume the scanlator is still going on his discord or whatever since it's not on mangadex
>>285668674>character development NISIOOOOOOOOOOO
This manga is so neat
>>285669477Autistic violent screaming goat man named Big Steppy is a great character
>>285664722>hey, any hole's a hole>worry about kids if it happens
>>285665818It's the give and take of any profession that requires a lot of focus and effort. Many people who work with the worst diseases or bacteria, either come with or develop a kind of "I admire it's purity" feeling towards the things they're working to better treat or extinguish. You learn so much about how a thing works and exists, you naturally end up seeing the world from its "perspective," as it were.
This translation is surprisingly different from Kaisuermutt'sI have no idea which is more accurate though
>>285670123Ah. Remember Mou said he would get along with the healers.
>>285664796It do be that way.
This manga is not an easy read, but it is really interesting.
>>285670725Dumb brat faking disease so she can be princess carried everywhere.
>>285670694>>285670711>>285670725Kind of figured this was happening. Pretty amusing (and, of course, how a lot of pre-modern sickness recovery works: just take it easy Stalker)
>>285669333Do they just bully you until you get better ?
>>285664545This is my most unexpected but welcome gift of the year.
>>285670951He totally killed the injured dudes
Done.
>>285671047Thanks OP. Been seeing this around for awhile in the past and hadn't in awhile recently. Figured it'd gotten canned. Should try to get around to reading the whole thing.
>>285670994>>285671016>>285671032So professor had 8 kids?
>>285665818A lot of them definitely get desensitized to death
>>285670136These guys are hardcore. Or maybe getting eaten by locusts sucks.
>>285670951Muderhobos ? In my netherworld ?
>>285671047very nice dump OP
>>285664545When does Best Girl return?
>>285664673The most useful girl in all the lands.
>>285664545His hair is a lot longer now. Shit, I need to catch up.
>>285671566He ABANDONED his archeopterix wife FOREVER
>>285664639Damn, this is like right where I left off. Though, now I feel the need to reread the last dozen chapters to remember what the hell was going on.
>>285664722Its a free love society.
>>285665022Mangaka is going to regret making that page
>>285664796>>285664807>>285664823>>285664834I really liked this part. The previous arc ended with Hakaba being really spooked by the Monsters seemingly not having a sense of existentialism or a sense of philosophy - being almost robotic and hyperrational at the expense of complex creative thinking or ability to consider their own futures. But then we get from Kashuu, a dumbass, a reasonable crisis about mortality and one's legacy on the world that Hakaba would never have seen if not for some happenstance. Works to show how Hakaba always jumps to conclusions too fast based on conversations with poor communication, while being pretty much a dumb outsider that doesn't get respect or attention so people don't care to have deep conversations with him, regardless.
>>285664937Religious thinking?
>>285665752This is just how human doctors are too.
>>285666025Seno Salt knows how to trip you up.
>>285667406>>285667218I'm surprised American hospitals don't try stuff like this.
>>285667709I like these times when we meet some weird fucker that not even Mou and co. know how to handle. That it isn't just culture shock, some beastmen are deranged.
when is he going to fuck Susuki>>285669908this one
>>285669319Oh, goat was talking about Susuki here
>>285669319>>285669333Realistic misunderstanding.
>>285669495Hakaba always overthinks when he shouldn't and underthinks when he shouldn't.
>>285669548Ryona>>285669629lmao
>>285672279Literally me.
>>285669807Damn, good on him for defending himself and Susuki. Didn't think he'd have it in him to win a fight.
>>285672180And here's her guilt>>285670292This is fun to re-read
>>285670645>>285670951Oh shit , he might have killed the doctor too
>>285669839>still not realizing the satyr was right about everything
>>285669908Kaisermutt did compliment the official TL as being very good in some end of chapter notes, so I'm going to trust this one as long as the translator is consistent.
>>285672492He stomped the ground to keep the bugs away He rammed them to keep them moving so they wouldn't get surrounded. He knew immediately that Susuki wasn't sick.Kinda suprised Mou didn't know what he was doing since he travels so much.
>>285669961poor dude
>>285670078>>285670009I thought we got another velociraptor, but that guy is just wearing a feather cape, right?
>>285665818Fun fact; Doctors score higher on the psychopathy scale than the average person, on par with politicians, businessmen and used car salesmen
>>285670214Damn, wiped out.
>>285670305Pretty sure this is illegal in some countries.
>>285673009It's okay, no female presenting nipples
>>285672672>Dad is acting weird again, doesn't seem to understand basic concepts>how amusing, let's observe some more
>>285670358extreme fast hakaba moving at incredible hihg speed
>>285670453Volcanic gasses are heavier than air, right?
>>285673145Would make sense. In away, it's opposite to smoke, where you deal with it by staying low to the ground (though perhaps that has more to do with heat making it less dense than being generally less dense that the breathable atmosphere).
>>285670581Poisoned themselves?
>>285664565I know right?
>>285670694>>285670711>>285670725What a little brat.
>>285670951Dreading to see another human with how he looks.
>>285670994>>285671032So there were two hybrids that looked halfsies and the others all looked like werewolves? So being a beastman is a dominant trait? And the recessive is something that looks more like a mix.
>>285671016Damn, man
>>285666648Cute smol crocs
>>285664545ohhh shit hell yeah I love this manga
>>285664545AIEEEEEE, I'M NOT GOING TO EAT THE WOOF!
>>285670725As Susuki is otherwise a certified Good Girl I shall excuse this bout of brattiness.
>Trust me bro, I'm a doctor
>>285673711What kind of man are you if you can't hold your best friend in your arms as they die, and not give them the courtesy of eating their corpse afterwards?
>>285673711You vill let Susuki be eaten by ze bugsAnd you vill be happy
>>285673525The Crocodile Dudes are the best part of the manga. Always great when they're on panel.
>>285673145Yep, SO2 and H2S in particular are stinky, heavier than air, and extremely poisonous.
>>285672371She'd do it again. Susuki is a piggyback slut.
>>285664545Let's fucking go, I was worried this series had been dropped forever
>>285671664He's way more handsome with some scruff and the longer hair.
>>285664545I was playing ketchup and I noticed that Hakaba's mother looks a ton like Enkobana. I bet that is going to be a reveal. That Enko and Hakaba are secretly siblings.
>>285665065It's the Japanese cold, I'm sorry Susukibros
>>285670951I'm sure it'll be fine, Susuki seems to be at ease and the theme of the manga is to not judge by appearance
>>285673711You silly goose, you don't eat WOOF just like that. You turn them into ARF first, tastier that way.
>>285665282EVERY DAY UNTIL YOU LIKE IT, SUSUKI
>>285665292You must licc the Soosky, sensei
>>285678206All the brattiness happened because Sensei failed to lick the wolfloli
>>285666733>Loli Kashuu got sekuhara'd by doctors
>>285667523Mou is based
>>285669477>Hakaba remembers he's got a day job
>>285670105>Covering the wound with the text box while using the shadow to indirectly show the broken off handClever
>>285670305Cute lolizard
>>285678278Mou is wise. It would be great if we could have a spin-off of Mou travelling to the human world and being as confused as Hakaba is in the monster world.
>>285670581Lmao
>>285670725Susuki is weak to cheese and uppies
>>285671047Thanks for dumping. Did Kaisermutt say that he was dropping the series? I liked his translations and notes. There are also quite a few untranslated chapters out for non-dekinais https://comic-walker.com/detail/KC_004879_S/episodes/KC_0048790005700011_E?episodeType=firstAlso, I swear the raws were free to read online but now all I can find is the paywalled one on Comic Walker
>>285671671Should try to track down the scanlation. "Ironically," seeing it translated two different ways probably enhances the experiences, being able to hold two distinct but similar wordings in mind at the same time for one line.Obviously, the wording in the scanlation makes more "sense," but that might precisely be the problem: the official translation makes the conversation more broken and awkward and it's not at all clear what she "Know" here or if she even "Know" what he was trying to say to begin with.
>>285664767Mating season.
>>285664796>He thinks "yes" to "it just is that way"...>... few timesIf more anons thought "yes" to "it just is that way," they'd all probably be happier.
>>285678201Kek, you fucking nigger.
>>285666733Loli lizard erotic.
>>285669395What the fuck is his problem?
>>285669882>>285669895She's getting better then.
>>285669961Fuck, it's getting dumber because of the water.
Reading this series raw in Japanese with imperfect knowledge of the language is certainly an experience.Especially with this new hobo dude who speaks in broken Japanese for some reason (stranded for too long and forgot language?)I just wish the plot didn't take years to progress, it's hard to remember what happened.
>>285670581Well, shit.
>>285670711>>285670725NEEDS CORRECTION, IMPREGNATION IMMEDIATELY!
>>285670951My guess is he killed the two because they begged him to.
>>285671047Thanks for the dump.
>>285670205>>285670214>>285670232>>285670250Satyrbros...
>>285678206One day she'll win.
>>285679296Being happy is overrated.
>>285679065Hakaba could have at least fucked her before leaving. However that would have worked. At least give it the old college try.
>>285678897his "translations" were really fucking bad, and his notes were pretentious trash
>>285680817>Flashforward where a teen Susuki harasses Professor Hakaba in front of his new students (she complains about never being licked)
>>285681954His huntress dinowife would kick her ass if she was pulling that at that age.
Am I the only one who feels like he's going to become a demon king? The one who can unite the monsters.
>>285670377Amazing guy.
Compared to the rest of this world, the Werewolf village from the beginning feels like an advanced Civilization.
>>285682165they got divorced anon
>>285682386Wolves have a fairly complex social system compared to most animals, and are the species whose social behavior is most compatible with humans. The existence of dogs is all the proof you need. So it's not surprising their village was the least strange and alien by human standards.
>>285682386It is interesting how that village was the most stable and long-lasting with a permanent population, where everywhere else is mostly just a collection of buildings that people use and discard as necessary. Like in the werewolf village people lived in the same places their ancestors did for generations, elsewhere, people hardly stay put for more than a few weeks. To be reasonable, Hakaba is mostly hanging out with itinerant travelers, rather than bee-lining it to different permanent villages. Mou and Kashuu/Kekuu don't have permanent homes, so they're not going to head to places that are all populated up as much.
>>285681761For a while it was all we had, and the raws are pretty indecipherable to begin with especially for non-native speakers (I've read them myself). So I'm willing to give him props for trying at least.
>>285670711
It's been a long time, i remember the whole suzuki is sick but haven't read much after, is this the second time or just a past chapter>>285666025>we won't be able to eat the poor thing...........i know they don't have bad intentions but.......
>>285664545>>285664565It's been so long since I last heard of this series I don't remember what the last chapter number I read was so I don't know if I missed any.
>>285666043>>285667218Mou's face just gets smaller and smaller
>>285670725NOT USEFUL
>>285680817She already won
>>285682743Nyo....
>>285684714How can a girl be so stinky and so useful at the same time?
>>285682341Not really. No one would follow him. They prefer to just do their own thing.Every attempt he has made in projecting his values onto the monsterfolk has ended in utter failure. He'll just go back and campaign for their rights I guess.Although I'm kind of curious what made the professor stop worrying about them.
>>285684871sorry anon, he's stuck with Susuki forever
>>285685977It was the wolf sex
>>285687422No, he was worried about it even after pumping eight babies into his wolf wife. Something else made him lighten up.
>>285666133>>285666405It's interesting that there seems to be some specific fear about what happens to a monster if they don't get eaten. Something more practical than just a sense of it's "right" to eat the dead. Like other people might be in actual danger of "something" if the dead don't get eaten.
>>285687671in real life dead bodies start breeding all sorts of nasty diseases if they don't get disposed of properly (such as being eaten by scavengers)
>>285687671You should be finished with the dump by now. The issue is that it attracts the katydids.
>>285670742Remember to hug your wolfloli daughterwaifu
>>285689867What if she enjoys it too much?
>>285670292Guilty Susuki is cute
why does he draw Susuki with such nice legs sometimes
>>285690998She takes after her father
>>285685977I bet the professor saw them threatened by something/someone and organize well to defeat it. As JRPG monsters they basically organize into a strong wholistic army when gathered together. And if you angered a group of them by being violent, they're physically strong enough to rip a human in half and are at least as smart as any person.
>>285689253It was worth it to pay the Amouzon air delivery fee
>>285671047Thanks for the dump Anon
>>285691091Get the hell out of here, Dried Grass. Why the hell did the professor teach you how to post?
>>285695641Giving the monsters access to the internet is ShindoL tier corruption.
>>285692708Hehe
>>285689261From what the story has shown so far and the emphasis it's placed on this ritual multiple times, it does seem to be more of a culturally significant thing than a purely functional action. For example, in chapter 10 when Susuki felt deeply hurt when Hakaba said that he wouldn't eat her corpse, and the lizard siblings explained that they weren't offended because they understood their differences in cultural background while Susuki was still too young to understand. If corpse eating was purely practical and had no cultural significance attached to it I think Kashuu and Kekoo's explanation wouldn't make much sense. At other points of the story the monsters also treat being eaten by a friend or loved one as something honourable.
>>285696803It probably started as purely practical - keep the bugs and diseases away. And then it became something deeply meaningful to the monsters in a semireligious sense. That being eaten was honorable and eating a good friend was a way to show your love and respect for them. To not be eaten meant your body wasted away in a grotesque fashion, to not eat a friend means to not believe their meat was worth eating. Burial or cremation is the same for humans. It is just a practical means to dispose of bodies. But over time people attribute more and more importance to it.
>>285696803Should have quoted >>285687843 too>>285687671It probably isn't a "fear" per se, more like preparing a will. At least that would be my interpretation of what we've seen so far
>>285696867Yeah, that seems like a reasonable explanation for the emergence of this culture, I agreeI do wonder however why burials or entombment wasn't adopted as much
>>285696867friendly reminder to read Longing for Home>>285696976those are far more costly in terms of effort and material to do
>>285696976Most Monsters are derived from carnivores and cross-species friendships are common. Also being near strangers is more common than human society. Monsters tend to be individualistic, rather than clannish, at least when traveling. With some exceptions like Kashuu and Kekuu. So I think at a base level their psychology about it all is different. Humans are derived from omnivorous animals that generally got most of their calories from plants, with meat being a rare treat. Werewolves or Lizardmen come from species that mostly eat meat with a tolerance for plants. Species where the consumption of weak members of their own species is more common. Also when traveling, they're more likely to be shacked up with a stranger or acquaintance than someone they know dearly. So the emotions that would make eating their flesh would be less strong in a monster's case, than a human who'd probably know their companion more. Chances are the stranger isn't even of the same species as them, even. So the mental block against consuming their meat would be lessened further.
>>285697065>>285697147Yeah, these explanations make sense. Thanks for sharing!
>>285679487He's NetherAmerican, if you say it louder and hit them, people will surely understand what you're saying.
>>285670292>hakaba is constantly almost dying to keep carrying her a little farther>she thinks she can't admit to being well because she's in too deep nowdamn
>>285679646You're just immersionmaxxing.
>>285696803But there was a page where Hakaba asked the monsters why they eat the dead and they give practical reasons like "it's tasty".I guess you can't take everything they say at face value, there may be some instincts they can't explain themselves.
>>285703107I'd imagine if you asked various people why they continue practicing some aspects of their culture or heritage, such as having a roast turkey on Thanksgiving or a birthday cake, they would give a similar range of reasons. Some do it for the cultural aspect, some because they value the people around them, some just because it's good food, etc.
>>285692241I wouldn't be surprised if, just like the bug hunt thing, there exist some kind of free floating class of Monsters who "think about the untrue true things" and are capable of performing monster "leadership" in a broad way that helps them protect themselves as a group better. Facilitating their cooperation when enough monsters recognize a serious but hard to grasp problem is happening. Also, consider that despite the "linguistics" thing in the title and focus of Hakaba's study, the manga is really more about "ethnographies." Hakaba even undergoes, a few times, a fairly classic aspect of anthropologists spending time with a group: the event that makes them go from a bothersome outside no one wants to talk to, to a member of the community they feel comfortable opening up to.And in that case, it's easy to imagine some of the more common things that anthropologists know about but that still don't really get percolated out to the masses. Namely, just because he's encountered a bunch of smaller villages doesn't mean he's anywhere close to having seen enough to say that's all there is. Maybe there's crazy ass monster cities with their own complicated dynamics born out of the monsters' heavily individual perspectives living so close together. Maybe some sort of stable, centralized resource that draws way more of them in than usual.
>>285703825Or maybe even different monster cultures that, despite starting from a similar biological concerns, have a culture and society almost as alien to the other monsters as those monsters are from humans. An interesting example of something that might be relevant is the pueblo cultures in the North American Southwest. Largely understood to be fairly scattered, decentralize communities, even accounting for the population loss post contact, archaeology on some massive, seemingly abandoned pueblo "city" indicates that, when serious droughts happened, the communities would actually centralize on this gigantic structure and live in a denser, more supportive group until things eased off and they could spread out again.Maybe the monsters have a similar history? When times get tough enough, they recognize they need to do "different things" to stay alive, and end up pushing towards more communal, centralized groups for better safety until they feel like things have gone back to "normal."
>>285664545cool
>>285703825You can see that with Mou already. Who assumes a leadership role implicitly in every group he's a part of, even without any debate or greater social stratification. He's just the guy that everyone looks to as a leader.
>>285705761Mou is also the most intellectually developed of the monsters that we've met so far (heck, the most intellectually developed of the characters that we've met so far including Hakaba). He's the only one besides Susuki who has shown a genuine interest in what Hakaba is doing, like when he helped out with his storytelling experiment. I don't know if he's actually a linguist or if that was just Hakaba's jumping to conclusions, but he's definitely as close to a scholar as netherfolk get.
