Thorfinn's writing suffers from how privileged of a character he comes off as despite being someone who should by all means be extremely worldly. Like, it's not even a problem of him being a pacifist itself, experience doesn't have to make you cynical. It's that he has a bizarre lack of empathy and understanding for people who don't have the luxuries he does in status or talents for a character who has himself been at rock bottom.He's right that walking away and making peace is almost always the best choice if you've ever been real enough to have lives in your hands, which is what the people who bitch about his pacifist stance have never experienced, they're basically the viking retards that clamor for war when they've never done anything hard. But it's fucking silly that he's a character who still struggles so much to have basic empathy in a story about understanding.

The story doesn't pick a lane, it doesn't know if it wants to do a "humanity fuck yeah", logic-defying feel good story where Thorfinn uses the power of being able to take unlimited beatings to forcibly create peace in the world, or if it wants to be grounded and realistic. As it stands, every character other than Thorfinn is pretty much the latter, while Thorfinn is the former. This makes everything he preaches and does seem retarded.
