Many of the publishers rushing into BL novels like JNC did missed the point of why Danmei is so popular. China managed to capture that market and Japan hasn’t been able to reclaim it.

It’s because of danmei (Chinese BL) demolishing light novels in sales. But as usual, companies took the wrong lessons from it.People don’t want Japanese BL novels, they want more danmei. The audience also has a larger preference for physical books over digital.
