They just treat her mental illness as a joke the whole time, in a very postmodern Zoomer cynical exploitative way. It's not funny, it's just mean, like the author enjoys torturing her. It's misery porn. The other characters aren't particularly strong either. Generic designs, minimal personality. The whole thing seems like it was cooked up in a lab, an artificial success.I'll still watch the next season and hope it gets better, but I don't have high hopes. And honestly, I don't think the series will be remembered in ten years, except by the people who had it as their first anime, which is apparently a lot of people. I hope those people discover better, more genuine stuff instead of TikTok bait.
