I didnt see all of original Dragon Bal as a kid so Im going back and watching it all now. Im at episode 53 where Goku is taking on General Blue.All the way up through that first tournament its fantastic. But then Goku goes help Nam, the plot is just him looking for his own 4 star ball, then runs into the Red Ribbon Amy and muscle tower and whatever. I have to say I remember why I dropped it as a kid because this RRA stuff has been boring as all hell. Granted the stuff with Blue and everything after Goku left the snow village has been better. There are certain scenes that while epic in the anime are elevated to an even higher level because the B&W is just so striking. And Dragon Ball was actually originally released with certain chapters in full color + other chapters in a really cool looking limited color palette of reds and yellows, usually reserved for important moments in the story. So I find the rare use of color helps to make the best moments feel more epic. Whereas I'm not very often wowed by the anime's color choices, except for some of the gorgeous backgrounds especially in scenes where the sun is setting or it's a rainy day.I thought "panel cheating" and reading ahead would be a problem too but Toriyama's panelling is famously very good and must be laid out in such a way that that becomes a non-issue because I've never read ahead accidentally
