To be fair, the problem here is exactly those air quotes: she's really not a bad girl at all and the "good-guy" is being mind controlled to be an evil midboss (badly, though).

They keep the aesthetics of the pairing, and she's certainly sharp enough to be a villainess, but in practice she's fighting for justice from the beginning and he's being mind controlled to fight for evil (kind of).

Still, it's almost like it, kind of.
