Jenazad was better in basically every way, but he didn't have the "tenacity" of Hongo, which created a mindset that made him make the wrong bet at the end of the fight (he didn't think Hongo would attack him with his broken hand/arm; I don't remember which).

He was on a completely different level from them and Elder-tier, and that made him complacent. Hongo caught him with a gamble and won. If Jenazad gave Hongo his full focus and treated the fight with respect, it would have ended without him getting a single notable injury
