Iguin is, according to Mircea Eliade's work, a shaman and Witch Hat Atelier is about the conflict between archaic and modern religion

i never got why i should care about an adaptation of a series that gets mostly carried by its art and paneling

Its about the conehats who want to keep the world stable and brimhats who want to use the world as their plaything.
Also Iguin isn't trying to teach Coco forbidden spells, but a brand new spell that will end the witches association's facade.

The Brimhats don't have enough intellectual or philosophical depth to be characterized as anything more than selfish sociopathic individualists that enjoy banal cruelty and are made that others won't let them be cruel.
Iguin is the only one that might have some depth to him, but it is still all vagueposting and every other Brimhat is a basic asshole who just wants to harm others for the lolz.
