Naoki Urasawa honestly just makes the "Breaking Bad" manga. They're good and "deep", especially if you're young and impressionable but the more you mature and become well versed you realize they are just kind of soulless and gay. They have some semi-interesting concepts that either go nowhere or worse shit the bed.
>>285861870That's a dumb comparison. BB was just a straightforward thriller. Urasawa makes Lost manga. Shitty mysteries that are made up as they go along and inevitably peter out into an unsatisfying conclusion.
>>285861945Honestly the reason I said BB is because I notice a ton of overlap between younger, more impressionable people that consume and kind of parrot/preach the gospel for both of these.I wouldn't really disagree with Lost though, but BB has this really universal "you can't ever shit on this!" praise that Lost doesn't have, but Urasawa works absolutely do.
What the hell? This is what I said in a thread yesterday!
>>285861870I just liked Yawara
>>285861945This. 20th Century Boys was ass.
>>285862052Ok I will admit anon I did kinda steal it from you but you are literally based as fuck for saying this and I noticed not a lot of people engaged so I shall take the heat for you now in this thread and fight all the brainless NPCs that shall no doubt attack this thread and parrot MAL reviews/YouTube essays.
>>285861870i love pluto and thats all i have to say
>>285861870this shit againhe makes more than psychological slop, it's not his fault those are his most popular works in the west (and thus the only ones you've been exposed to because you need spoonfeeding to read anything)
>>285861870Amen.Urasawa is a hack that doesn't understand nuance.
>>285862209You dumb nigger I've read all of his work (at least everything that has ever been translated) and I still think this.As for this other work you bring up yes it does have more soul than his popular shit but even then its just not insulting to me but also nothing special.
>>285861870>>285862177>whaaaaaa look at the ball the kid used to play with the kid is dead now and I'm sad!Narrative masterpiece.
>>285861988Honestly reason you said BB is because you're a dumb zoomer yourself and it's the only popular reference you could think of.
>>285862329No faggot I was paying tribute to the anon that inspired me to post this as it was what he referenced and again it is fitting.I've seen a ton of shows both obscure and popular from all eras, but the issue is I prefer movies as an art form in general and they always leave a bigger impression on me.
>>285861870>breaking bad>deepWhat.
>>285862329true, the irony of him calling an audience not "well versed"
>>285862476>They're good and "deep"I don't believe it, but plenty of people claim it is which is what I am ridiculing.Just look at any discussion or video essay and how they talk, then compare it to how people talk about Urasawa slop and its the same shit.
>>285862392>No faggot I saw someone's shitpost, thought "this but unironically" and tried to pass it off as my own opinionYou're only making yourself look worse here.
>>285862642>>285862486>>285862476Psueds infiltrating the thread
>>285862881no need to announce your arrival
>>285862881You sound a bit raped right now OP. Have a drink and relax.
>>285862881Hello pseud!
>>285863014Kill yourself you fucking Urasawa meat gobbling faggot, his dick has been so far down your throat for so long that I am surprised you have not suffocated yet.
>criticize holy cow mangaka>vermins come out of the woodwork to shitpost the thread to deathYou faggots can't even contend with the arguments kek. What a bunch of weak ass faggots.
>>285863151Wow what a fierce reaction. Who hurt you?
>>285863187Where? Seems like you're the one who can't hold a discussion in good faith. Too much social media engagement brainrot?
>>285863151I'm sorry Urasawa raped you and your dog but chimping out over it isn't going to help.
>>285863255Here.>>285861870>>285862251>>285862300We all know you aren't going to address anything and only sperg out with non-arguments.
I never heard that BB was deep, the main reason it's popular is because it's simple and strightforward. I think Urosawa raises interesting concepts but never knows how to finish them, he's not that great a writer, or maybe he doesn't give it enough time (manga magazines are hell)
>>285862123>accuse others of parroting reviews>in the literal same post admitting you're parroting someone else's reviewWe're hitting dunning kruger levels here not previously thought possible.
>>285863359Help me with understanding you, my reading comprehension has been destroyed by years of 4chan shitposting and I'm normally not in Urasawa threads:You think he's overrated (because you called him a holy cow), but you don't like blatant shitposting against him either?
>>285862300Yes.
>>285863433I don't see any shitposting against him.People think Urasawa is some manga god that can't be put under scrutiny, when in reality he's very bad at writing.>>285863497This is the perfect example for "show, don't tell".Imagine if in the second one you had some retarded narrator or a "cat mommy" stating the obvious>look at him! Poor guy, he's so sad now that the other cat in not around anymore, do you remember how they were playing when they were together?"Fucking abysmal writing.
>>285861945Nah, Urasawa doesn't make bad manga, they're not as great as you think they are when you first read them at 14 or 15, but they're fine. Lost in the other hand is just crap.
>>285861870Breaking Bad would be on Shonen Jump if it was made in japan
>>285864834Urasawa has some good qualities, for example he's a good character designer, but his writing sucks ass.Even some ideas he expresses are simply bad, the idea that a robot can be alive is disgusting propaganda when you think about it rationally and not emotionally. If not malicious, it comes off as naive and childish.
>>285864962You sound insane and deranged.
>>285863391People pretend BB is deep all the time but it's not, it's got worse writing and ending than the usual Urasawa manga.
nobody on this board would be able to write anything as good as urasawas lowest so jokes on us
>>285861870You stole this from goodreads? Can you be more specific in the criticism besides vague concepts of gay and soulless.
>>285865015Ah, yes, the person who values human life is the insane and deranged one, not the one who compares scraps of metal to humans. The absolute state of "normal" people.
>>285861945FPBP
>>285864962yes 100%. legit can't wrap my head around it. People, artists, that aren't dumb or anything writing something as absurd as Pluto is quite disturbing imo
>samefagging nowOP raped and gaped by urasawa the goat once again
>>285865271I think it's got to do with Shintoism. Japanese people believe that things can have a "spirit".I do understand where they come from but I think valuing a robot's "life" the same way you value a human life is insane. To me even animals would be far superior on the scale. Not that I believe a robot can ever be alive or have a soul.
I read a bunch of chapters of monster because of the Johan Liebert youtube essays and found it very whatever, then I watched pluto and also found it whatever. Maybe Urasawa is too deep for me or smth, really cool art style though.
>>285861870Seeking perfection in art is a losing battle, OP, unless you're being disingenuous. I won't pretend the manga he made are incredible, they're entertaining and to be honest that's all I ever cared about. If I wanted a deep dive into some ideology of concept, I'd read specific stories or books about it, why expect an artist the bare the burden of that philosophy when he's just trying to construct a narrative. For me recently, I read Pluto, and I didn't like it. Infact I was pretty pissed off by the end, but looking back, I really like Gesicht's character arc and Pluto's design, he's legitimately monstrous in some of the scenes and it's what I liked, hated the ending.
>>285865553Kuso post.
>>285865516No one is asking for perfection, they would be content with decent writing. Like respecting the adage "show, don't tell".You are misrepresenting the criticism.
>>285865595The criticm OP made is calling the writing >soulles and gayAsking for depth when the concept used in character writing is serviceable for the narrative is something I can't understand, like over developing a plot point that goes no where, and I don't say Urasawa isn't guilty of that, it's just that it doesn't matter for the collective reading experience for someone like me who gets over dumb things authors unintentionally obsessed over, it's funny like a detour.
>>285864962>the idea that a robot can be aliveYou mean Pluto? Are you actually trying to equate Astro Boy level androids to your refrigerator?
>tfw I know everything about OP and this thread the moment I see filenames. Don't get tricked anons.
BB is legitimately great tho.
>>285865960Yes, I mean Pluto.Quite the sstrawman. My argument is that a machine can never be alive or comparable to humans. Do you have an actual argument?
>>285862251You retarded? Urasawa does plenty of visual storytelling'
>>285863151This great discussion is in dire need of some BBC and transsexuals.(reddit spacing)Please consider BBC and transsexuals. Also, I like Monster. 90's Germany is super comfy and Johann is a good villain.Simple as.
>>285866014I really do wonder what urasawa did to him for him to make these threads every single day
>>285866190No, that's the literal implication of your dumbass claim. Try again.
>>285866171I can appreciate how stupid the story gets, always makes me happy when author stops being serious.
>>285866193I think you might be the retarded one >>285862300That one is for Pluto but Monster was the same.>>285866295You wanna play that game? What is the argument in Urasawa's work for robots being alive? There's isn't any other than "it makes me feel a certain way".Surely you understand the difference between a living being and a machine and the need to present an argument as to why the machine is alive if you want to normalize it's categorization as such.
>>285861870have you considered that you've become soulless and gay as you've aged?
btw guys OP here forgot to mention my top 3 favorite anime are:-steins gate-fate/zero-frieren
>>285866171>Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan provided more details about Walt poisoning Brock at San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. The writers of Breaking Bad referred to the incident as Walt becoming the "Evil Juice Box Man," imagining him injecting the poison into Brock's juice box. Off-camera, Walt had somehow planted the juice box in Brock's lunch at school, making sure only he came in contact with it.bravo vince
>>285866520Saul's secretary did it actually. Still a stretch and not THAT believable but these shows aren't about being perfectly down to earth and realistic. Great TV.
>>285866388>robots being aliveThere's that false equivalence again. Even within the story itself, not all machines were created equal. Atom's ridiculously complex neural net does not belong in the same conversation as that discarded toy dog.
>>285866586That's honestly even funnier and less believable than Walt somehow doing it himself.
>>285866651Not according to Urasawa. If that is your position you need to confront the author about it, not me.
>>285866822The farthest he goes is to suggest an emergent attachment/sentimentality that comes with memories. Everything beyond that is left open ended and given to the audience to think for themselves.
>>285866915Oh really? What about the anti-robot (not even anti-robot, just against the notion that robots are alive) movement and the parallel with le ebil nazis?Be honest for once in your life.
