Are you seriously telling me that this receding hairline guy who does nothing but job in every fight he gets is actually one of THE 12 lords that work as leaders of the entire Mage's association in London? This guy who got defeated by some freelancer is one of THE 12 most powerful mages that there is in the magical underworld?

Zero isn't Strange Fake. Nobody ever hyped Kayneth as le strongest, that is not how Butcher writes.

>>286170117
And a student stole from him without him noticing. The poitn is that he depended on that girl; he was a loser that relied on others to gain power, a realistic representation of a "powerful" person

He could have won the entire thing if he just went guns blazing from the start.

He is a powerful mage, but he also made a lot of stupid decisions because he let his ego and pride override common sense.

>>286170117

>>286170117
His preparations in Fate Zero show he was an extremely powerful mage: he turned the hotel floor he was staying in into a Tomb of Horrors tier deathtrap dungeon that would have made it nearly impossible for any of his opponents to reach him. His biggest mistakes were
1) being too cautious and planning to just sit in his fortified stronghold until most of the other masters had killed each other, thus ceding the initiative to them.
2) assuming all his opponents would play by his rules, that is go through his gauntlet of traps to face him in person. He never expected Kiritsugu to just go "how about we just DON'T go into the Tomb of Horrors?" and derail all his plans by just bypassing the traps by collapsing the building he was hiding in on top of him.

He didn't understand how relationships work and took his wife for granted. Well, gee. It's not unthinkable that your neglected wife would fall for a servant whose curse is making the opposite sex fall for him against his will. Is Kayneth a cretin who didn't do his history homework? Or is he just so autistic that he can't comprehend how humans think and behave outside of his magic battle games?

Magus hunter >>> Magus

It turns out people designed to kill certain people, are actually good at killing those people. In terms of quality Kayneth was far above Kiritsugu, but Kiritsugu is too good at knowing how mages thing, the weaknesses in their logic. They're too reliant on expecting things to go a certain way.

>Haha, I perfectly crafted my hotel room so its the perfect fortress full of mystic codes, ghosts, demons, its a solid fortress no servant could ever break into
>(just blows up the entire hotel)

Shirou and Rin both admit they could basically never beat Bazett, they have no chance at all. Magus killers are a big deal in universe because you don't get that reputation unless you kill a lot of them.

>>
>>286170117
He had an extremely bad matchup, Kerry is specialized to kill magi as efficiently as possible. Also, he was likely the most competent mage in the battle (if a little conceited). Kiritsugu's origin was simply the difference maker, most people don't have useful origins like that.
>>
>>286183865
He got kind of a shitty servant draw too though.
>>
>>286181711
>>286181799
Mahoyo is legitimately excellent though
>>286182503
This is true, Kayneth's downfall was of his own making. He underestimated how outrageous the grail wars had gotten due to the 3rd one's circumstance so he assumed it was still a honest fight (it never was but the 4 extras never knew that) with 7 pawns
>>
>>286183915
Diarmuid, except for the Mystic Face, was genuinely an excellent Lancer and had a great matchup against everyone save for Lancelot and Caster
>Permanent Wounds
>Nullification of Mystery
Even Gil would have had a hard time with Lancer
>>
>>286183962
Would he have? He just spam fucks everything from above.
I also don't remember him having anything that nullifies mystery.
>>
>>286184040
One of his spears disabled Saber's invisible air iirc and the other one was the one that did not allow wounds to be healed, it's got a maximum effectiveness otherwise it'd one shot servants but I imagine it would allow him to bat away GoB. On top of Gil kind of being a bit slow in Zero, but everyone fought a bit slowly in Zero
>>
>>286184140
I just looked it up. It cuts through magical constructs but only while the tip of the spear is in contact. It's also not as good as Rule Breaker.
Like it's good, but he's probably in the lower half of Fourth War servants. There's something to be said for the fact that Lancer was willing to listen to fastwheels to some degree though.
>>
>>286184424
That's fair yeah, not certainly THE BEST, but I think Lancer was workable under the right conditions. Gil is pretty much a cheat servant so he'd be hard to fight for everyone else, but I think there's room for Lancer to win there
>>
>>286184627
Hundred Personas is really good if you're actually trying to win.
>>
>>286185028
>100 jobbers is better than 1
Personally I don't see it. Kirei is indeed STACKED for a Master and the schizo Hassan can provide plenty of information, but he seems kind of weak against everyone but Lancer. Almost every other servant has some way to protect their master or have AoE attacks to kill off Hassans
>>
>>286185126
That's the thing. If you aren't retarded you don't even give away that there's more than one.
>Sacrifice one at the beginning like Kirei did
>Line them up to be ready to assassinate masters as soon as their servants win a fight
>Kill Archer's master early because of Independent Action
Even in edge cases nobody is seriously going to be able to beat jobbergamesh.

>his name has kanji for these two words
>therefore he has an instant win button that does those two things
>>
>>286188070
It only works when it's touching actively circulating magical energy from a magic circuit, and it does scaling damage based on how much energy is used so it's only an "instant win" if the opponent put a huge quantity of energy into it. It's honestly very specific.

>>286188193
>very specific conditions for instant winning

>>
>>286170117

>>286170570
>He could have won the entire thing
He's probably the best pure mage in 4th grail war and because of the whole Sola-Ui contract hackery he has an unfair advantage in mage-to-mage combat. If the contest was fair and the opposition plays into his strengths then he's a top contender, but neither of those are true.

>>286170796
>[His biggest mistakes were] being too cautious and [...] ceding the initiative to [the other masters].
The Grail War doesn't have a built in mechanism to reward early agression. Though Berserker masters probably want to force early confrontations and end the war as fast as possible while Caster masters want the war to go late so they can build some large scale magic ritual. Putting yourself out there generally opens yourself up to forming alliances but also puts you at risk of getting sniped by an by an Archer or getting Hassan'd. I don't think being cautious is a categoric mistake. I honestly think Waver and the Einzberns had the best idea in accepting that the grail war is just a murder fest and defering to the expertise of a professional be it the warlord Iskandar or the contract killer Kerry.
>>
>>286190022
>>which he just so happens to have right now
Which he specifically engineered into being by manipulating his opponent's behavior. He deliberately provoked Kayneth into putting all his energy into defense to catching his Contender's bullet after proving it had armor piercing qualities to him.
He's a highly specialized assassin. You think it's convenient that he has tools fitting for his trade?
>>
>>286180671
>all NPs are either nukes or shields, no exceptions

Something I really liked about the original VN was that it made nukes actually impressive because only the strongest servants had big red button noble phantasms. Most fantasy series would have made the gimmicky NPs stronger than the nuke NPs, but Nasu subverted our expectations.

has an Assassin class servant ever ACTUALLY fought as a stealth assassin? Seems like every fucking time they show up in broad daylight and pick a fight with a Servant instead of trying to pick off Masters from the shadows

>>
>>286190509
HF True Assassin did a good job disengaging from battles with servants and focussing on killing masters. He got humiliated by Kirei though. Which is bad for a servant but Archer, Rider, Berserker and Saber all got decked by either a Japanese schoolboy or school teacher.

Mage marriages are very, very political and as the Lord of the El-Melloi house, he gets the pick of the litter so to speak. He didn't need to understand relationships because they are mostly transactional.

That said, he obviously did give a shit about Sola-Ui. He actually loved her. The problem was that it was a one-way love and she didn't give a single shit about him. And even if she did love him, it wouldn't have stopped Diarmuid's curse from stealing her from Kayneth. So you trying to blame Kayneth for those issues is misguided. "Neglect" is the wrong word to use.
>>
>>286185333
>>286185374
Presence Concealment has always failed to hide killing intent. So if you're just there to watch, you can probably hide, but the moment you actually want to kill or are moving into position for a sneak attack, it won't work. It's dumb like that. Nasu generally doesn't like an Assassin winning anything.

No.
The worst author attached to Fate is BY FAR Makoto Sanda, the author of El-Melloi Case Files and El-Melloi Adventures (Seriously nobody has fucking read this shit) It's fucking terrible, and Waver is a genuine wikipedia article spouting retard.

El-Melloi Adventures is specifically in contest for the worst thing I have ever read, for a vast number of reasons, of which I will go through a few here.
>Sanda, despite being in charge of the lore, gets very basic things wrong, like thinking Greek Gods are still Machine Gods in PHH, or thinking Klironomia exists in PHH
>Ergo is the most Mary Sue OP OC you'll ever see, with the ability to learn how to copy languages, martial arts, Sion's Etherlite, Shirou's Projection, and the fucking Heavens Feel with ease, in addition to bringing people back to life, having three gods inside of him, having Omniscience through "divine eyes" that allow him to see the past, present and future all at once, and all manner of other awful bullshit. Oh, and he's also Iskandar's biological son, resurrected from 2300 years ago.
>Fucking ruins Atlas and makes it gay and retarded
>Fucking ruins the Wandering Sea and makes it gay and retarded
>Waver the 'great detective', after 13 years spent researching the motives of Kiritsugu, somehow manages to deduce that he was like Spiderman (Sanda was playing Spiderman on his Play Station 5 when he wrote this interaction, just like he was playing Hades when he decided to make another character Zagreus out of nowhere)
>Inaccurate JP Wikipedia used for research

Basically, to get a taste of just how bad this series is, and how unpopular it is, try to find "Ergo" fanart, and keep in mind he's the secondary male lead in this 5 year 11 volume long LN series, which even roped fucking Shirou into it (Who can now teleport people within UBW and apply the effects of a NP to other NPs) to try to clapbait some new readers. There's like 2 pics of him.

>He thinks Gray gets to be relevant in El-Melloi Adventures
Ahahaha, no. She actually outright dies at one point because Sanda misunderstod what Origin Bullets are, and a Kiritsugu LARPman shot her once after she tried taking a bullet for Waver (She had her magic circuits specifically turned off to mitigate damage and she still "died" to the point her soul was shunted from her body and needed Mary Sue Ergo to save her.
Somebody with the physical body of King Arthur "died" to one shot from a Thompson Contender.
Also, if you were at all interested in Gray dealing with her artoriafication stuff, don't be! Because Sanda stopped caring so he could wank off Ergo, to the point where Sanda has her outright draw Caliburn inside of Unlimited Blade Works with no ill effect to her. (Though of course, she needs Ergo to swing it with her because he's a TRUE KING, leading to this humorously long handled Caliburn clapbait) Nevermind that this should rapidly accelerate her problems.
As for Rhon, it has jobbed to just about everything, including a random unnamed old chinese boat, some bone golems, and of course, Rho Aias.

Among other things, you can now just straight up teach and use Age of Gods Magecraft in the current era, and Authority can be used perfectly fine, too.

Case Files is bad, but Adventures is beyond Last Encore in how fucking dogshit it is.
Gray is also romantically attracted to Ergo and can't help but go on in her head about how childlike and like a dog he is, it's actually kind of concerning.
>>
>>286197914
Oh right, I forgot, Caliburn here was used to kill Ziz, some random faggot from the Wandering Sea who was planning on turning into a planet. Well, I say "kill", this fucking stupid villain tanked Unlimited Blade Works, Via Expugnatio, Caliburn, and all sorts of bullshit, until they used a Kerry Origin Bullet to instantly kill him.
He wasn't expecting the Anti-Planet Origin Bullet. (Kiritsugu sold Origin Bullets and training to the French Mafia so they would tell him where the Einzbern were, the family he lived with for eight years)

Sanda also has Shirou say that Kotomine had a beautiful goal and Gilgamesh was right. It's fucking awful.
I could go on and on with how terrible it is, like how Rin is introduced with her saying how the entire world belongs to her. (Too much FGO Ishtar, Sanda?)
>>
>>286170117
That's NOT a receding hairline.
>>
>>286195780
Still odd to me that throughout mythology there are always stories about thunder gods vs giant snakes

But Sanda didn't want to use that angle because that would make Orochi vs Susannoo "just another sky father vs giant snake story", which would make Orochi seem slightly less impressive since its "just another story similar to other stories", Orochi had to be special, it has to be given designation above other monsters

So Sanda changed it so its "Bovine vs giant snakes". So that they could claim Set is the Egyptian version of Typhon, and Ōkuninushi is the japanese version of Typhon. Which seems really like a stretch.

Its like he went with the stranger interpretation just because the more obvious interpretation was "been there done that"
>>

It's not quite as much of a stretch as you might think
Not because it's not retarded and fake as fuck, but because it's Iskandarwank, like all of Wavershit. Sanda tries to claim that the stories of SNAKE VS COW were brought over as a result of Iskandar's conquests, ignoring the fact that the story of Indra vs Vritra predated Inskandar's failed conquests by almost a millenia.

He also has Waver outright call Adam divine, but in the same sentence say Karna and Arjuna aren't.
Effectively, most things in Waver's Life just so happen to revolve around Iskandar in some way, and it's genuinely bizarre that Waver isn't allowed to move past his bara bf to the point that after reading adventures, I am outright convinced Waver is a woman-hating literal faggot
Almost everything in the stories links back to Iskandar.
Ziz wants to become a new planet? Why? Because Iskandar died. Ptolmey orchestrates the Ergo project? Why? Wanted to give Iskandar's son something to read. Heartless is going to make the Age of Gods start again? How? Divine Spirit Iskandar or some shit lmao I will speed up my servant times a billion with the Emiya crest and prayge to them so they become a god.

They literally call it a receding hairline in the show though?
>>

Yeah, my bad. I just assumed Adventures was just an extension of Case Files but I see Adventures is somehow even worse. Much worse. What the fuck.

I know but they are wrong, my hairline was like that since I were 17.

The exact moment that Gray ceased to be relevant as a character was the exact same time when Nasu decided that there were actually no Dead Apostle Ancestors in Fate Timelines. (Sanda wasn't aware of the worldline split before starting CF)
It's extremely obvious that Gray was supposed to be dealing with Dead Apostles given her gravekeeper skillset, and the fact that she comes from Blackmore Cemetary (named for Gransurg Blackmore) but Nasu rugpulled Sanda. This is why Zepia randomly shows up, and so does Rita Ro-zay (as a ghost version of herself).
Sanda probably had big plans about being the first TM writer to properly combine Fate and Tsukihime until Nasu took a baseball bat to his knees.

there's still dead apostles in fate timelines
van fem literally showed up twice
they're just capped at tier 7

Nasu's writing style was so distinctive at the time that he was declared the inventor of a new genre of mystery fiction, "shindenki". Higurashi, Bakemonogatari, etc. were all considered shindenki, while Haruhi had shindenki influence like the heavy focus on Kyon's internal monologue.

...and then the anime and spinoffs of F/SN cut out all its shindenki elements and were wildly successful anyway. I think this broke him.

But you missed the point, they show up but they're never really allowed to be the true focus on a story. Nor for that matter are they allowed to show off the full extent of their abilities.
Noted explicitly when Van-Fem says something along the lines of "AND NOW I'LL SHOW YOU MY FULL POWER" at the end of one volume, but then going "JK nasu said no" at the start of the next.
Nasu doesn't want fateshit to sully the rest of the Nasuverse any longer. (That isn't to say Remake is good, because it's not, but Nasu clearly tried to make it good, though the Dead Apostle Videogame tier system is retarded)

This may well be why he handed the role of Setting Loremaster off to a hack like Sanda.
My personal schizotheory is that he did this to make it more difficult for the other writers to follow along with Sanda's absolute bullshit lore. (He actually reused plots from his own LN, Agartha Fiesta, for the current arc of Adventures).
The ending of FGO being the Salaryman special, too.
These aren't the actions a man takes if he doesn't hate a series.

IIRC Diarmuid is nerfed because he's supposed to dual-wield a sword and a spear but the class system forces him to use two of his swords or two of his spears

Personally I think Kawahara Reki hates that Sword Art Online took off instead of Accel World, and is trying to make it impossible to fully adapt SAO without adapting the rest of AW first. And that AW will end with the heroes delivering a mercy kill to a bitter middle-aged Kirito whose longing for the past has driven him insane.

Isn't this just an optical illusion because they were all ripping off Boogiepop, though...
