so about 2 chapters of berserk come out each year supposedly, do you think we'll live to see the end of berserk or will the two guys responsible for keeping the manga going die before finishing it too? two chapters a year is a really slow pace and i'm not fully caught up, but it seems like it's not close to being finished... i am like 30 chapters behind so maybe it is close to ending, idk, but let me know if i'm close or not.
>>
I don't care anymore about Berserk
>>
>>286179909
that's sad anon, berserk is so good.
sad that it probably won't get an ending.
>>
>>286179828
Nah it's more like 5-6.
>>
>>286179828
They had a long hiatus after Miura died with them polishing the last chapter he worked on. In 4 years they've released 19 chapters which by Berserk standards is relatively on pace. I think Berserk will finish as a 50 volume Manga and it's entered the endgame already. 7 volumes to go I think
>>
I think if Miura were still alive the group would still be on the ship after the events of Elfhelm, probably with some additional side stories. For all the complaints it seems like the Mori era isn't fucking around and they're going from plot point to plot point with no filler.
>>
>>286180087
oh yeah? that's reasuring
>>
Berserk will be good soon
Trust the plan
Do not ask for releasing the Miura notes
>>
>new author after authors death
Its a fan fiction at best, i dont consider these chapters to be canon.
>>
>>286179828
For some reason Berserk changed a lot.
It´s almost like a different person is drawing now.
>>
>>286180184
I think the thing to remember is that Mori isn't messing around with filler or further world building, he's going from plot point to plot point in each chapter/volume, and what we're losing in more nuanced character development we're gaining significant plot development each volume. Without going in to Spoilers as you said you're not caught up, there's been 5 significant things that have happened which, and I don't mean this in a bad way, Miura would probably have dedicated several chapters to. There's a battle that takes place over a chapter and a half that Miura 100% would have stretched out to 4-5 chapters, easily. You'll see what I mean when you read it. In terms of pacing like in Millennium Falcon where we'd see Griffith's perspective for 2-3 chapters, we're getting multiple perspectives per chapter. Which is fine for finishing the story but I guess that lingering feeling of lost context is always going to be a big "what if".

heh. But yeah, you can't expect anyone but Miura to finish Miura's work. I don't care how much fluff (in order to keep the gravy train running) is put out there about "Miura's bestest bestest super best friend EVAR totally knowing every single detail about what Miura wanted to do". I don't buy it, even if he got a generally good tease about where the story was going - people are not stagnant, they learn, they change, and Berserk's story was an ever-flowing thing. If Miura lived even a single day longer he might have come up with a new idea and drastically could have changed the story. Kentaro Miura's Berserk is Kentaro Miura's, a running work of a man. The """B Team""" does not get the benefit of the doubt from me, nor do I care about Berserk following the death of the creator of it.

Although Lost Children is my favorite, Golden Age is arguably the best arc in Berserk, and it's gotten 2 adaptations already, one of them being genuinely good in my opinion. So all things considered, the fact that Golden Age is, in itself, a completely story, I take that as the lasting work to be enjoyed. We see a band's rise and fall, a story about medieval comradery falling into a dark fantasy horror. That's good enough for me. I don't need literal Berserk fanfiction in my life.

Berserk ended with the last chapter that Miura worked on.
when Guts was standing face to face with Griffith after so many years.
everything after that is bullshit fanfiction and character assassination
>miura told me how it would end back in 1993 when we were eating hamburgers
that’s not how a 30-year-long story that keeps getting new plot lines added works, sorry no but please stop destroying your friend’s legacy
>>
>>286187060
yes apparently Miura told him “hey you know all those side plots and character arcs of the skull knight and all the other characters that I’m going to be building up for decades? Well yeah one day the fairy queen is going to go “whoops time for us to leave” and snap her fingers and VOOMP everybody except like 3 core characters is going to vanish from existence.”
>>
>>286179828
I would be fucked up if the new guy died too and he had a friend who said he kind of new the outline of the story and he took over

>>
>>286187258
Almost like they were filler characters.
>>
>>286187258
Miura says "and then Griffith attacks and they flee on the boat and run into the Kushan"
Its not like he had every single detail down.
They are trying to fill in the blanks between the bullet points they know with as little as is necessary to avoid OC as much as possible. That's why the first few chapters had nearly zero dialogue until they got abit more comfortable.

We are getting a spark notes version of the end.
A picturized version of the story highlights that Miura had planned out.
>>
>>286187042
Dude, all Miura did was spitball about what potentially ideas he had for Berserk. These aren't detailed scripts.
>>
>>286187557
It’s almost like trying to “officially” continue an author’s story from a rough draft of the cliff notes that he summarized to you 30 years ago is a terrible disservice to the author and his work.
but what do I know, I’m just some guy who really liked Berserk back in the day, then started reading the continuation chapters and felt an immediate and overwhelming urge to shoot himself in the head twice

>>
Should have had Griffith kidnap casca, guts immediately goes and kills Griffith, happy ending, wrap it up. everyone would understand it having a game of thrones tier rushed ending given that miura dropped dead.
>>
>>286181748
Berserk is shoujo from the perspective of a male character instead of female
>>
>>286180014
Berserk was good for a handful of arcs, but the overall story suffers massively after the Eclipse
>>
>>286189919

>>
>>286179828
Berserk died with the Golden Age arc. It's time for us to accept that truth. Very little of value is found after the Eclipse. The japanese readership took a huge hit after that and never really recovered, it's like they knew.

yes, it's the correct logic. I don't mind the new chapters but they are not written by Miura that's just facts.
'Miura's notes' is a grey area that you should always be wary of being misused by the publication. Rather than living in uncertainty, it's better to just put the manag on permanent hiatus.
>>
>>286190591
holy fuck there are how many of these monstrosities now?
I haven’t read any of the nu-shit ones and I made my judgment on them back when they announced the author. I used to read Star Wars books in the 90’s and I remembered Kevin J. Anderson as the writer of the most awful trashy slop, and considering Star Wars books that is saying an awful lot.
The dude was ChatGPT before Pentiums were even a thing.

the part with Griffith and Guts’s child being reborn through the egg-shaped apostle was really compelling I thought, too bad we never got a real resolution but I think it works as an open-ended “miracle or mystery of uncertain consequences” in the way it “concludes” with Miura’s final chapter in the moonlight.
>>286191644
the first arc of Berserk where he fucks the demon in an exact copy of the Conan the Barbarian opening scene is rather silly, the story is extreme edge from a young man at the very beginning but it gets better quickly.
I like the way Miura took the Hellraiser aesthetic and worldview and turned it into an actually interesting story instead of the way it is in the actual Hellraiser movies where is is just a lot of bullshit on top of a few shitty slasher movies.
It feels like “What if Clive Barker was actually good at his job instead of being a gay sadomasochistic clown who had a few neat ideas?”
I feel like Berserk is one of the very few horror stories that really works as a genuine horror story instead of a bunch of cheap shots and jumpscares

>>
>>286189367
Death then rebirth of the hero is a common storytelling trope. While Guts didn’t literally die, his ego died because his sword, the thing he’s based his entire life around, did fuck all to keep the woman he loves from getting kidnapped after she finally regained consciousness. I’d imagine someone’s entire worldview crumbling in a matter of minutes if not seconds would fuck them up pretty badly. Once he comes out of the stupa or whatever it’s called, he’ll likely get a powerup and the Kushan will do spiritual voodoo shit to the Dragonslayer that will allow him to physically and astrally hurt Griffith/Femto

as a lifelong mega-fan of Dune, I have to say I don't think Brian's books are that bad. I mean, they are bad, they're definitely not good, but they're not THAT bad. Every acts like it's the biggest defilement of an author's legacy ever but they should reserve that fury for what Brandon Sanderson did to the Wheel of Time
>>
>>286193818
>>but muh struggler
This is one of the funniest parts of the story and how people receive it. Kids think Guts is an example of a strong, unbeatable man who doesn't need others to succeed. A Lone Wolf, if you will. But if you read the manga then it's quite the opposite, the story is about how Guts has to learn to trust others because he has to admit he isn't strong enough. Better yet, he needs to trust and appreciate women.

The other thing in that whole confrontation with Griffith is he's trying harder to stop the armour taking over than he is fighting, it's a good scene. Also the thing with the sword is one of the reasons why I feel 1997 has aged so poorly. There's no reason in the anime for Guts not to have the sword with him. In the manga it's broken after the fight with Wyald, in the anime he just doesn't have it for some reason

He's going to come to terms with Griffith's betrayal and the death of his friends, like Rickert did. Maybe he'll get some healing powder or whatever, but the spiritual nature of the Cuckshed is going to be more about him emotionally growing.

to be honest i just kinda clocked out of berserk during the conviction arc. it had good ideas but it's when the manga just started to become bland and boring. while i love casca to death i think she probably should have died. the manga is just casca casca casca and then the pirate apostles for like 100 chapter and then speedrun elfheim.

it's over.
>>
>>286196676
Never said he’d get a super saiyan powerup. It’ll likely just be imbuing his sword with some astral bullshit from the behelit he’s been carrying around the entire series and giving him the mental capacity to hold back the berserker armor and be able to use its powers while still lucid without Schierke’s help. Would make zero sense for him to get something like a super saiyan level powerup. What I think would be cool would be Guts getting his own version of Skull Knight’s armor that shows he’s grown past being the berserker he was for most of the series
>>
>>286197153
Maybe it's because I actually like potato Casca but I don't understand why some people say Casca should have died. Then the story would have been even more directionless than what you complain about. Keeping Casca around enforces the theme of seeking fulfillment besides chasing the past/seeking revenge. A Griffith redemption arc would never work. He sold his soul and that's it. So without Casca, there would be nowhere for the story to even go.

It already is. He can only hit Griffith if he's focused on it. He was focused on protecting Casca on Elfhelm, he needs a clear mind like when he fought him last time and when he hurt Slan's manifestation.
>>
>>286197862
I’d say there’s a difference between Guts’s sword covered in apostle blood and SK’s sword of actuation which seemed to be something that could actually harm Femto. Last time he fought Griffith was when he was leaving the Hawk and Griffith was still a mortal man, but he’s now as close to a god as a character can get in the series without becoming the idea of evil. And Slan’s manifestation was a pile of troll innards that she took over, it was a temporary vessel not the permanent one that Griffith has. I could just be remembering things wrong though but IIRC the Dragonslayer needs to be able to connect with Griffith and it just phased right through him last time

His understanding of the magic system in Berserk based on how he made Farnese summon the four kings and the whole way Isma and the elfhelm critters pretty much got written out of the story goes to show he barely skimmed over the lore of the story he's continuing. Plus you'd think that with Miura being dead and the story being planned out we wouldn't get 2/3 chapters a year since Miura isnt autistically drawing every wrinkle on a tree or something. Both the story and the art got a massive downgrade and the releases are still being dripfed, no wonder people are hating on it.
