Ahead of it's time
sex daughter sister thing
>>286203529No it was pretty much at the end of it's time, an artifact of an era when the counterculture pulse was stronger in the subculture and social commentary was much more of a trend. It's not like this was the first time an anime had wrapped up a critical examination of Japanese economics and capitalist policies in all sorts of dramatic nonsense. There used to be an entire genre of side plots about multi level marketing scams/cults. By the time C was made it was already a common joke that parents were easily written out of cheap narratives by condemning them to an eternity of labor. Every now and then we still get this sort of thing too, the big example that sticks out in my memory being Dungeon Black Company.
>>286203529So, dollarization was the only solution for Japan“s economic problem on that series?
Look at how fucking flat she is.
>>286203529see the tree, painted in purple and blue
In fact, it'd be better to call C the last of the Lost Decade anime...except of course that the grim message it bears is that it's already too late to stop the cycle of burning away the future to cling to the last crumbling ruins of civilization. In that case we can also use the Shinkai films and the myriad of popular works that have been chasing his trend as a comparison of the post-Lost Decade works. I think it was in the Gurren Lagann anniversary showing staff interview that someone mentioned how in the 90s and its aftermath they had been stuck in that dismal atmosphere, but the implication was that with works like TTGL and those after it they have shifted to a more positive atmosphere.
>>286203529Mashu is very cute and very sexy.
I used the windows sound pack for years until swapping computers and harddrives and windows versions and ship of theseusing my way out of the files
>>286205864Very soulful.
>>286206758I still use the Steins;Gate ringtones from the threads in the same year 2011 is probably the best candidate for an actual end to the otaku era not just with the final lineup of masterpieces like Madoka but also the thematic content in works from this era suggests the successful/unfortunate transition from subculture to mainstream acceptance being completed.
>>286207135Yeah I'm inclined to agree. I think another good marker is also the decline of the visual novel.
>>286207135I don't even really like Steins;Gate much but even then 2011 was an incredible year in anime, possibly the last great year.
Buy fat, sell flat
>>286203529This shit is going to get popular againSome pretentious faggot is going to make a youtube essay and zoomers will spam this shit on tiktok
>>286203529Heard it was cut short without a satisfactory ending so I never started. Is it still worth it?
>>286208872There's a hyped fight that ended up getting offscreened but otherwise it's fine.
>>286209186I was thinking out it the other day. When I first watched it I was mad it got offscreened. But now, over a decade later, I think it was the right way to go. If we saw the fight in full we would have been screaming about asspulls and shit writing.
>>286209186>>286209231Reminds me of Katanagatari
>>286203529I think about C almost every day. I also think about how we're never going to get something like this again because animation studios can't stomach taking any risks and would rather adapt stuff that's already been done than to work on something original and contemplative that uses strong narrative themes to challenge our understanding of the world.
>>286209609What about the director's other anime? It seems like his works are divisive even among people who might like one of them.
>>286209881Many such cases...
>>286208787I severely doubt that>>286209609we get original shows every season
