Hes very over confident a lot of the time in z but if you go back and watch, a lot of that over confidence is more him trying to divert and take on his enemy so his friends dont get hurt. Yamcha like goku is a dog. Fearcely loyal to who he deems an ally, even if hes not powerful.

Also hes goofy and silly but still caring. He was definitely written better in db and i dont like a lot of the stuff they did with him in dbz (him cheating on bulma off screen for no reason? Which is about as out of charecter for him as possible???) But even with the writers never really giving him a fair shake past db i still love him and think hes very fun.

Also hes the hottest of the male dragon ball charecters by a wide margin and his fighting sfyle being unique to him is neat.

Z fucked the powerscaling up HARD and the only charecters who survived and continued to be relevant were the ones toriyama had arcs for (goku, vegeta, piccolo, gohan etc) or who helped a charecter on one of there arcs (bulma, krillin) everyone else got pushed to the side and flanderized really bad (chi chi, yamcha, tien).

It really feels like the charecters they didnt want to write they turned into one note bits which is a really bad way to treat legacy charecters. Especially when a lot of your fans dont go back to watch the orginal material. This is how charecters like krillin and yamcha are seen as weak and one note.

They arent weak dbz just made the power levels so comically high compared to db most charecters (especially regular ass humans) cant really compete. As such less time is focused on them, theyre personalities get simplified and when they do fight they get their shit rocked.
