I had a conversation with a friend of mine and we wondered why is it that the dragon ball movies are the most memorable anime series movies compared to others
Like we realized we can remember more about the dragon ball films from the 90's more than we can remember anything about the demon slayer movies
One piece has had 15 movies and I can't remember anything from them
My question to /a/ is, why is?
Is it just nostalgia or do the dragon ball films keep it so simple they're easy to remember?
Is it because the villains from them appear in the games?

I think its because the villains tend to be really cool in them. The films are also quite simple in terms of plot as the focus is mostly on the action sequences thus making it easy to remember. Broly and Cooler were great.

the influence of the games really can't be overstated. plenty of other animes have movies, but how many have had the main villains in them consistently showing up in games since the PS2 era, that have also been consistently been getting games since the ps2 era or earlier? Most anime games struggle with having so many fan favorites not making the roster cut, and very few get even one sequel, let alone trilogies
Not to mention very few animes get more than one movie except for the most mainstream of mainstream People Fight. That's another advantage DBZ had, there were just so many of them, and they all got localizations. and people meme about the NuMetal soundtrack now but as a 13 year old it really was the hypest shit to see on the cover that Disturbed and Korn etc were in the movie

the movie villains that always stood out to me were the ones that had some connection to the main series. Android 13 was created by Dr. Gero, Broly was from the same ward as Goku, Cooler was Frieza's brother and the other son of King Cold, etc. Made the world more fleshed out and lived in. incidentally the villains that had no connection to anything always felt more forgettable, like Dr. Wheelo or Hildegard

I have never watched a single episode of any of the anime you mentioned ever in my entire life but it sounds like nostalgia. They probably made you feel a certain way and created an emotional attachment rather than relying solely on memory.

Hype moments, mostly. Frankly, the movies had little substance. Even the much beloved Bardock film had a retarded future sight component just because they wanted Bardock to know what his son would do in the future. There were any number of much more organic and natural ways for Bardock to learn about Freeza's plan to wipe out the Saiyans, but they just fucking gave him future sight. But fans don't really care because Bardock was cool in that movie. The story itself was dogshit, but at least he looked cool.

wasn't the whole point that the aliens Bardock and his team killed wanted Bardock to suffer knowing that he'll have visions of his race being wiped out?

because dragon ball is the most memorable anime series, what kind of fucking question is that
>>
>>286253427
Honestly because they're all short as fuck and back load all their cool moments so they stay memorable
>Goku using false Super Saiyan
>Goku reviving a bird
>Goku absorbing the Spirit Bomb in to his body
>Goku using the Dragon Fist
>Three Generation Kamehameha
So many based moments

This is a big part of it. In addition to that though, Dragonball itself has few villains and gives long arcs to each one, so the movie villains have more space to stand out as a "Dragonball villain" designs since they aren't competing with tons of henchmen that get their own battles that fans might like. Most other shows give the villains tons of henchmen of varying levels of importance.

Even Freeza, the "emperor of the universe" just had two elite henchmen that got focus and then the Ginyu force. Everyone else were basically minor/generic soldiers.

Also, note the lack of villains in DB is relevant because due to that you had stuff like Cooler, Broly and Bojack making it to games even back in the 90s, not just in the modern post-00s games. That would never have happened if the Dragonball manga had a larger roster of villains in each arc.

Because Dragon Ball is already popular with normies so they automatically become more memorable.
>b-but one piece
It's a shit story. No one ever remembers anything about it.
>>
>>286253427
Dragon Ball was made with the sole intent of being entertainment instead of trying to tell some profound message. That's the secret of creating something with universal appeal.

They're not that good
