Nothing exposes an anime as commercial garbage with no integrity as hard as getting whored out with original sequels and spin-offs years after the fact.
This goes for Gundam, Macross, Votoms, Eva and all your favorite franchiseslops from other genres like Madoka or whatever.

The opposite is true. These toy commercials were so bad they had no staying power.

The gundam containment board? No thank you.

Not me.
>>

Except for the third one they did have staying power. It wouldn't be fair to compare their popularity to huge TV anime phenomena like Gundam and NGE doever

if shaft produced a mecha series you'd be begging for 14 years of content.
>>

Shiteon was always "the next show from the """""creator""""" of Gundam" and "the show Anno liked." It is absolutely terrible and does not stand on its own merits at all.

Making a new work with similar themes under the same name is bad because uhhh... I don't know, look at me using gen z buzzwords like slop aren't

That's what convinced you? Not the toy tie-ins, themed general goods, company sponsors/collabs, home video sales, themed cafes, etc?

No, but there is a spectrum and sequels and spinoffs are about the most embarrassing thing in there.

I cringe at Angel's Egg merch.
I would cringe way harder if they announced Angel's Egg 2.
Pretty easy to understand.

Tourist contrarianism demands that all of the established criteria used by otaku for generations must be thrown out for their personal definition of what real anime is that just so happens to include the 5 mid series the OP has watched while denying the iconic series everyone else agrees are the masterpieces of the medium
>>
>>286290345
Every episode is exactly the same
>>
>>286292248
You talk as if the average otaku taste is impeccable. Also you went a bit too hard on the buzzwords there friend. You ok?
>>
>>286289198
Nobody likes mecha, not a single person, this is just a fact, people just like to engage with the toys and shit.
>>
>>286292845
Well yes, the taste of those who actually engage in otakudo and otakugaku is impeccable. Contrarian tourists who just shitpost on social media don't even engage with the media itself so of course their taste is automatically shit.
>>
>>286293056
Lmao. Impressive level of stupidity.

Can you blame Mospeada for all the Robotech crap they shat out because they had the rights to Mospeada but not Macross, Southern Cross or Megazone?
>>
>>286293154
Are you going to assert that people who don't watch and study anime have better taste than the people who watch and study anime?
>>
>>286293402
You pulled the people who don't watch or study anime out of nowhere and into the argument to make your mediocre taste look better, and keep making grossly simplifying claims. Not looking very good if you're the paragon of otaku, whatever meaning you've chosen for that word in your head.
Funny how you tried to turn the original argument of integrity into a stupid assertion about "real anime" when your own is a dumb appeal to "real otaku."
>>
>>286293790
>integrity
That's the point though, anyone who would dismiss anime for being part of a commercial industry is obviously a tourist who has no clue what they are talking about. Acknowledging the origin of the works in children's media is square 1.
>>
>>286293979
wtf I love consumerism now
>>
>>286293979
Not all anime give in to the industry's commercialization in the same way. Therefore, the ones who indulge in it the most, carry a badge of shame and are ultimately less serious for it. Keep in mind this is a spectrum, before you simplify again.
>>
>>286289198
An ESL's opinion is worth less than a worm in the dirt's.
>>
>>286294164
>Therefore, the ones who indulge in it the most, carry a badge of shame
According to whom? Otaku have never held this standard which is why you can also instantly identify western tourists by the way they dismiss Jump series using buzzwords like shounenslop.

>>286294149
What do you think collecting figures, gunpla, posters, shirts, pillows, etc. is?
Otaku subculture is joined at the hip with a consumerist industry
>>
>>286294498
According to anyone who would like to take the material more seriously, which is apparently beyond the interest of otaku according to your own simplified ideas of it.
>>
>>286294675
>According to anyone who would like to take the material more seriously
Such as whom?
Otakugaku is itself the conceit of anime and manga seriously as an area of scholarship and there's extensive writing, ironic and unironic, abut the medium. Which of the experts who takes this material most seriously do you take your views from regarding this alleged badge of shame connected to commercialization?

You're just a tourist pulling bullshit out of your ass
>>
>>286294809
The world of anime and otaku scholarship is small and mediocre. The opinions of those people don't deserve the weight you're giving them.
Besides, what are they supposed to be studing, us? Then let them study my opinion. These works lack integrity.
Anyway, lots of people have criticized the commercialization of anime, including legends like Tezuka and Miyazaki.
>>
>>286294922
>Then let them study my opinion
Your opinion has zero value; you're a tourist who doesn't know anything about these media. See what makes the opinions of those scholars valuable is that they actually watch the media and study its context. You don't. That's why all you can do is minimize the opinions of your superiors while demanding everyone give a fuck what a useless parasite like you thinks.
>>
>>286295019
>all you can do is minimize the opinions of your superiors
Isn't that kind of what you're doing? Kek. You're so frightened about my opinions because you know I do watch and study anime.
>>
>>286295075
On the contrary, I know you don't and that's why I'm so dismissive of tourists like you
>>
>>286295111
Alright so you've chosen to make up some bullshit in your head instead of engaging in an argument. Boring, I expected a bit more from you.
>>
>>286295161
I gave you the opportunity to back up your opinion by proving you derived it from reading about the medium.
Your response was to put forward an excuse to dismiss the actual scholarship in favor of the tourist opinion you pulled out of your ass despite not watching anime and not reading about anime.

I expect nothing more from tourists like you, since your lack of engagement with media and scholarship naturally means you have nothing to offer
>>
>>286295229
Personally I value the opinions of people like Tezuka and Miyazaki above all the scholarship I've read.
>>
>>286295261
You don't value them at all, they're just convenient props for you to use out of context. Tourists like you always do this, but then funnily enough you never actually consume the works made by such creators you use as props.
>>
>>286289198
It's okay for anime to not be high art, but too many anime fans get ass mad when you politely objectively tell them that "AUUUGH YOU FELL ON MY BOOBS AGAIN I KICK YOU TO SPACE" slop will never be in the same tier as lord of the rings.
>>
>>286289198
mecha only ever existed to sell toys
