Just finished watching it and honestly the manga is way better. The finale was extremely rushed and a huge letdown and the epilogue wasn’t even adapted other than the very final moment, which was like 5 seconds of screen time. Why they did that entire new play thing, which wasn’t in the manga, is beyond me, because it was a waste of time at the end of the anime. The tournament was much more rushed than even the manga. They butchered the title drop from chapter 158 and the title drop is now just some passing remark from Yahya. The entire Zoolympics subplot was crap; Ogma should have died and Louis should have done his succession speech. The whole Legoshi is a criminal because he was at the tattoo shop for 2 seconds was poorly played out. I appreciate the studio adapting B Strike this time, keeping the “new” scenes with the same spirit of the original manga scenes, Azuki feeling more fleshed out, not showing Melon’s dad and not including Kyu and making Shitler more relevant but there were so many things that could have been better. Melon’s fight and him shooting himself sucked compared to the manga.. The Melon chase was terrible compared to the manga, which is one of the best parts of the manga. Juno getting screwed over wasn’t the shock it was because they barely even built her and Louis together. And what about Azuki + Louis? Not even mentioned at the end. I hope Science Saru does a remake since they did a good job with Sanda.

I've only seen the first two episodes and it's very good. I can't watch the whole season in one go.
The downside is that by the time I finish watching it in ten days, there won't be any threads or anyone talking about this series anymore.

I will say it's a neat perk of taking forever to make that they get to benefit from post series content.

I'll watch this tomorrow probably but from what people are saying my hopes are not up at all.

I'm forever mad with how Melon was treated. He is a genuinely great character (for most of his time on screen, anyways) and getting shafted in the final arc both times is unfortunate. Could have been handled so much better and he'd go down as a really iconic manga villain, but now he's just an infamous one due to the shittiness of the end of the series.

I gotta say, Paru forgot about Shadow Legoshi almost immediately, it was wild to see the anime bring it back. The deepest cut callback.

The ending is fumbled still as things were moving a million miles a minute and I feel like it only makes sense if you read the manga first and understand all of what was going on there.

But I still love it because Haru is more of an entity here and has really great scenes and makes cute faces. Don't deny that incorporating the bunny stomp into her character for when she's angry was not peak.

she was actually given some story last season about wanting to open a restaurant which can serve veggies for both carnivores and herbivores to enjoy. centered around taste like that, i thought it was a unique angle to approach the melon & haru arc. but this season forgets about that entirely and defaults to manga-content only. i was glad to see more of her but she still got robbed imo. that's what makes these two parts so different. season 3's part 1 wasn't afraid to head into unchartered waters with lots of changes. kines being a big thing, louis actually being a badass and striking out on his own like a rogue detective, etc etc. part 2 has none of this innovation, they just revert to copying manga's stories and never take them any further. instead they fill up leftover screentime with boring plots like the drama club, the zoolympics, legoshit hiding in the sewers and the occasional fanservice, like louis visiting the shishigumi for no reason except to show some "time spent with the bros", tao and kibi scenes, juno pining for louis to appease the shippers and so on.

final season ruined by previous season's writer checking out and no one else being able to pick up the slack. many such cases.

“What if Revenge of the Love Failure was being a serial killer that only kills interspecies couples” is an idea, but it’s an odd idea to drop in halfway into an arc without any prior setup in the first half.
Especially when you kinda just have to make him get bored of that in order to segue back into the turf war.

Netflix needs to greenlight at least 2 epilogue episodes. One dealing with Legoshi meeting Haru's family, and one for a god-damned wedding.

It feels like Orange ended up being a bad fit for the series.
S1 worked pretty well but the story diverged from the school setting and you can tell they struggled with that.
Like every omission has the simple explanation of they just didn’t want to spare the budget to create the cg characters models for it.

Not gonna lie, for the last stretch of this adaptation, giving it an isolated instrumental for the intro feels kinda underwhelming

I thought it was good. Having Melon obsessed with eating Haru because he believes he can absorb her love, warmth, and kindness to make him feel something; as well as believing she's the only meat that would have any taste to him because she is not chronically stressed about her mortality adds a personal layer to why Legoshi doesn't just leave Melon up to the police and Yahya to handle. It's an interesting way to involve Haru in the story without it feeling super contrived.

it would have been okayish if that was just one of his crimes that would eventually lead to legoshi getting after his trail again. it was completely underwhelming compared to his original motivation of causing total anarchy by taking advantage of society's greatest weak spot, that being the uneasy union of herbivores and carnivores. to top things off, his holy grail was also to kill yahya, the almighty beastar feared by all carnivores but him. the whole purpose of melon's secret party in part 1 was to lure yahya there and then watch him be torn apart by the other party guests drugged up and turned into total savages by melda. i don't know why they'd suddenly nerf his ambitions like that; were they afraid of age restrictions if there was too much bloodshed and sexual stuff on screen? i get that they didn't go into melon's backstory because child molestation is a big taboo, but beasts getting turned into frenzied killing machines couldn't have been too much?

him randomly abandoning the shishigumi only to turn up out of nowhere is shitty too. why would the guy who ruled the gang with an iron fist loosen his grip on power?

anyway, melon survives (manga readers know that 1 bullet isn't enough to kill a roided hybrid, the anime omits that info). he's sent to prison and receives a shit ton of fanmail, pic related. at some point he escapes. anime makes it seem like he never even made it to prison and just escaped from the hospital. his status after his escape is unknown. i find it curious that paru isn't touching him in beast complex despite melon clearly being her favourite character by the end of the beastars manga series.

technically the manga ends with melon in prison. the mangaka paru itagaki then states in a farewell letter to the characters that melon escapes prison within a year. his escape is also hinted at in one of the beast complex chapters, the manga spinoff series released after beastars was finished. desu melon's escape isn't really surprising, who could ever stop furry joker himself?

I love the duality of them removing Legoshi turning white from shock in a comedy beat played dead serious that turns out to be a handy full body disguise when he gets in trouble with the police and then keeping in him getting in trouble with a police so now his disguise is just sunglasses.

yeah, that's an argument, i get that. but that argument is weakened by the more manga-oriented anime not only being a bore but also leaving out the best parts of the final arc. likewise, the anime is supposed to advertise the manga, so you better deliver something that strikes the interest of the audience. instead the anime is more confusing than anything else. i actually laughed when deshico spelled it out in part 2 when he was like

like yeah no shit. melda was supposed to turn melon into an "overnight celebrity", right? i expected melon to go resident evil on the city and keep yahya on his toes by turning carnivores into killing machines, which would also explain why legoshi has to go after melon instead of the big beastar himself. the setups of part 1 being ignored like that leads me to believe that they originally had something else for part 2 in mind but chickened out at the last minute.

part 2 also leaves some plotholes.

I think they lowered the stakes as much as they could without completely disregarding the manga. Melon's stakes seem to be deliberately lowered from a Joker-level powerful villain to just a guy that took charge of the Shishigumi but otherwise has a bone to pick with interspecies couples, and his obsession with Haru's meat.

I guess it's to make it more personal to Legoshi and Haru's story, as having Legoshi go off and fight a supervillain like he's a superhero was where people felt Beastars was losing the plot.

It's been bugging me if Haru's height of 3'4 includes her ears or not. Looks like her stated height does include her ears. No wonder drawing her always feels odd. She's always smaller than you think.

I just finished the Final Season....

First of all I want to say something I said to myself about a certain character and that is FUCK YAHYA!! He probably got better development in the manga, in fact I know a lot of plotpoints and characters were dropped for the anime, one of the main plotpoints being Haru's family, but FUCK YAHYA!!

Secondly, if there was a character who got screwed over by the plot, it's Juno.

Other than that I still love this weird series and I hope Beastly Complex gets adapted and whatever projects Paru Itagaki is a part of continues to be hypnotically weird yet entertaining to watch/read.

You can really tell they were eager to make a specific kind of high school romance and were increasingly sad that Paru made it less and less that over time
