As I said before, the anime version of this portion was simply before it's time. Modern shonen animation is all about adapting simple manga sequences into bombastic cinematic experiences, but Naruto was basically 1-to-1 animating the manga aside from like five fights. They strayed too far for what people expected in 2010.
The pain fight animation is ugly for the same reasons as gear 5 vs kaido. Over the top deformation isn't a replacement for real choreography. norio matsumoto is heavily overrated by a few autists that worship him here

The issue of previous chapter isn't that Hinata jobbed in 2 panels. Hinata should absolutely get horribly butchered by Pain and it shouldn't be a close fight at all. >>286588847>>286588809>>286588991the real issue with this fight isn't the animation, it's the plot holes it introduces. in the manga, it's all Pain's got just to put some distance between him and Naruto, and he has to use his strongest jutsu to even touch him (the big floating planet thing). making it a fight where he isn't instantly vaporised completely screw up the power scaling of Pain. it begs the question how Jiraiya could put up a fight, it begs the question how Sage Naruto could put up a fight, it begs the question of how base Naruto manages to defeat him later on, it begs the question of why Pain needed a whole group of people to collect the tailed beasts, and it begs the question of why Pain even needed the tailed beasts to begin with if he's on the level of a tailed beast in terms of strength. it makes the tailed beast transformation look like a joke, it makes Pain look like a walking god.
