Because they couldn't punish Gil due to him being part god they decided to simply kill Enkidu instead since he was a weapon the gods made. Gil after Enkidu death got a midlife crisis and went looking for immortality. After many failed attempts Gil finally succeed only for a sneak to eat that which would have made him immortal. He laughed at the whole thing, realised how retarded all this has been and went back to Uruk to rule as a wise king.
