The original series and EoE were a group effort with great contributions from people like Yamashita, Mitsuo Iso, Sadamoto, and Akio Satsukawa. Satsukawa basically wrote all of the show's psychology and scripts for all of the introspection-focused episodes. Episode 4, Hedgehog's Dilemma, was written entirely by Satsukawa without Anno's input. Anno valued Satsukawa's input on characterization so much he offered him to co-write the script for Love and Pop, Anno's live-action adaptation of a denpa novel Topaz II by Ryu Murakami, which he did. Satsukawa wrote for 1.0 and 2.0, but did not return to write 3.0 and 3.0+1.0, which, I believe, is why the characters feel so shallow and Shinji becomes a youtube stoic.

just finished End of evangelion. what a shitshow, I had fun in the first half of the anime. then the same character traumas just got reiterated over and over that I was just wishing for the finale to come. and then the finale is just more of a repeat of the same philosophies eventually just dissolving into meaningless phrases. I'm appalled that people ate this up and I would be embarassed as anno if I had to show this esoteric mess to others. this was one of the poorest perfomances of writing quality I've ever seen and it's impossible for yoko taro to underperform whatever I just saw. every single one of you that is attached to this anime after all these years has absolutely no taste and you're part of the problem
