Personally I thought Makima's defeat was a bit contrived but the themes and characters were on point. It was a really nice and hopeful ending, with Denji having a chance to grow up in peace, the control devil having a second chance at being human, and blood devil and Reze still out there.I heard they were planning a sequel, a part 2 of sorts, but sadly it was canned. A shame, I would have loved to see what Fujimoto could do with Denji in highschool!

Fumiko said in the prior chapters that all of humanity would live on, undying, being eternally metabolized within the stomachs of bugs. If you consider that they might be sentient in some horrendous way through that, then the sheer amount of fear being put into bugs would be through the roof. Though even if they are being spared sentience, the moment before their devouring would be producing tons of fear regardless. In either case, I think lore wise the bug no diffing Pochita is probably fair writing.
