Just finished episode 7. I cried like a bitch in the anime with Chopper's backstory but didn't get too emotional at all with the live action. Not sure what happened. I think they rushed a lot of stuff and it was hard for some first-time watchers to understand what was going on (even though I knew it because I watched the anime). My girlfriend had no clue why Hiriluk was going to the castle after drinking the poison, I think they completely failed to mention that Wapol was baiting him and Kureha, or how much of a big deal seizing all the doctors in the island was.

The Ghost in the Shell movie took a moody, atmospheric cyberpunk story and turned it into braindead action schlock that only occasionally paid lip service to the original. Not the worst but it's clearly a huge downgrade. The Cowboy Bebop show was an extreme departure and was utterly tainted by turning it into a modern quipfest, they didn't even attempt to match the tone or characterizations. Netflix One Piece at it's core is still the same goofy shonen as the original, they do their best to condense and adapt when possible and whenever a character shows up they are mostly recognizable in terms of looks and demeanor. It also helps that it looks like everyone involved had a lot of fun trying to bring these cartoonish characters to real life. It's about as good of a live action adaption you could hope for, compared to something like the shitty Netflix Avatar you can tell that those that worked on the show actually gave a damn about the source material and preserving the tone.
