The Void Century is a serious conflict and its a clash of opposing ideologies of Joyboy's side and Imu's side. So I'm not sure what you mean by "gooning" opportunities unless you mean that Joyboy will be a massive gooner which is unlikely. I mean I get that "too early" from a story standpoint, it's been a thing all along, and it's why Sabaody went as it went, but I feel like the power level established for Kaido and his crew outmatched that of the Strawhats and their alliance to the degree they went down "too easy" compared to what I would've seen as realistic. Again, what I expected would've been a raid battle between ALL of the Scabbards and Luffy along with Kid, Law, X Drake, Apoo and Hawkins fighting Kaido in like a 1 vs. 15 fight and even then they'd BARELY win. Skill, tenacity, ingenuity, strategy etc. only take you so far, and I simply feel like Luffy lacked (and still lacks) the raw power needed to believably beat Kaido.
And that's not even mentioning how badly Oda shafted Big Mom, too. Due to her powers she should've been the harder one to take down out of the two, if anything, and she was slapped in on the whole deal as a side character to be beaten by two other side characters. Like I never thought the raid WOULD fail, but I always thought it SHOULD fail, simply because the power levels felt so off. Luffy struggled so damn hard against Doflamingo and Katakuri that no trick like a new form of Haki should've taken him to the level where he's able to beat Kaido.

Kaido fought the sccabards, 5 worst gen member wih Big Mom, Yamato and two more rounds with Luffy.
Meanwhile Luffy got a mid arc training where he learned a new form of haki after Kaido one shoted him and still needed 3 seperate mid fight power ups to beat Kaido.
This is by far the most lenght Oda has ever put into making an arc antagonist being strong and their defeat seem like a struggle.
If anything it makes Kaido seem too strong since the gap between yonko commander and yonko seem much greater than what was previously implied

Whitebeard Pirates being the top dogs was well established since the start, but people still managed to convince themselves that all Yobko are equal, their top commanders are equal, their second commanders are equal (YC1, YC2) etc. Marco can duel Big Mom, Vista can duel Mihawk.
