Either new character designs have run out of ideas to make characters look unique, so they add 5–10 different features that clutter the design and end up looking generic anyways. In comparison to 2000s and early-2010s anime characters often had just 1–2 defining features that made them instantly recognizable and much better looking design-wise. Or they just have to fulfill Tiktok's overstimulation design language shit.
