Square Enix has partnered with MANTRA for AI localization

Thoughts? It seems this is the way Japanese companies will be handling localizations going forward
>>
Kino. Based. Thank god this finally happened.
>>
Not going to pay off. Foreigners aren't going to spend money on digital manga. Even if they skip the human supervisors it would be a net loss.

Localizers suck, but AI is objectively shit. Thank god more data centers are being bombed.

You're a faggot who hates manga.

Yes it will.

arent most fan translations done by ai these days?

By that logic, everyone hates the Bible if they didn't read it in its original language.

That's correct.

>>
>>286721649
It will be trained to add the same bullshit as modern translators while making more mistakes and failing to understand the context of anything.
>>
>>286721960
I don't live in a dream world you deluded retard. There are no decent translators left. All the "fan TLs" are either retired, went the Jewtreon paywall route, or already poached by licensed companies, being forced to include the "global audience appeal" translations.
When the last time you see honorifics and TL notes being properly used instead of another localizer fanfiction and rewrites?
Translation scene is currently at their all time low. It's either uphill from here or a total destruction. And frankly I rather see it crash and burn instead of slowly dying at the hands of twitter liberal trans lesbian woman adding their own quips and memes to "spice up" the dialogues while removing all kinds of Japanese related terminology and references.
>>
>>286721649
The human editors are the localizers. Congrats, you get the worst deal, AI TL+shitty localization.
>>
>>286721649
>please don’t support this thing that will get rid of people you ruin things you like and will stop people who hate you and want you gone.

And they'll still censor the fuck out of shit with those ugly black boxes.
>>
Finally a good use for AI
>>
Having played a bunch of Japanese porn games, manually edited AI translation is actually pretty good and a lot better than people who never experienced the true bottom of the barrel of translations would know.
>>
>>286721649
Square Enix is going bankrupt in a few years anyway. Everything they do fails and they haven't been relevant since 2002
>>

Dirty money. It paid the bills. I actually liked what I was translating so I tried to translate it to the best of my ability without weird shit.

And even so we’ll never have an official Kinnikuman translation
>>

All I ask is make the translation as accurate to the original without added flavor or american corn starch syrup

>>
>>286721649
And they will STILL have the nerve to charge money for mtl slop. I can only hope all involved go bankrupt.
>>
>>286722758
That's not much different from how the apps for Japanese users. Either you pay for the volumes and magazines or you accept censorship. Mind that some mags are also censored but usually not as obnoxiously.
>>
>>286722912
He's probably just translating doujin content on DLsite.
>>
https://www.itmedia.co.jp/news/spv/2406/26/news172.html this is 2 year old news, why is this retarded twitter account posting about it now?
>>
>>286721960
I'd prefer an honest mistake from an AI over a malicious rewrite from a troonslator
>>
>>286723342
Black boxes exist in both, but the same chapter can sometimes get even more covered in black in the translated version. If you care about the translated version, those don't always have the volume version being sold.
>>
>>286722914
They somehow are worse than laruffi which I'm pretty sure was also mtl.

>>286723268
Sometimes flavor is added, sometimes not. Depends on both the translator and proofreader.

>>286723349
No, the actual mantra.co.jp
>>
>>286723680
AI has no honesty, it's a machine, retard
>>
>>286721649
So this just means that official English TLs of these published by any of these companies are going to be worthless. AI cannot follow context in conversational Japanese dialog.
>human editors revise the output
Big doubt. These AI companies all rely on overwhelming volume of their slop. Their editors aren't going to be fluent speakers. They're just going to give quick speed reads to make sure the English grammar "sounds right" and then the whole thing is going to be packaged up and sold immediately.
>>
>>286723680
>>286721867
>>286722681
The localization process is built into the LLM they have trained, dumbasses.
Why do people seem to delude themselves into thinking that AI has objectivity?
>>
>>286723680
Tough shit. You're getting shitty AI translations that still have malicious rewrites from the editors, or that has woke commie tranny propaganda or whatever you're mad about baked into the slop itself.
There is no upside to this. You're not winning. None of us are.
>>
>>286723714
Eromanga can get uncensored translated releases while Japanese ones are censored and I don't see many people here buying those either.
>>
>>286721649
I don't really care about AI, and honestly I don't even like it. I used to love fansubs, but if the professionals are too retard to do their job with even a minimum level of professionalism, then fuck them. At this point, I welcome our AI overlords.
It's like stupid people winning stupid prizes, so I'm ok with that

The ones i saw all use either deepl or google translate
>>
>>286724111
then I'll just MTL it myself.
>>
>>286724305
I don't know the term for it, but I think it's an llm they trained themselves. Before that, with testing back to back, I'm pretty sure it use to be deepl but way less shit. Which is still shit compared to what mantra is now. Or gemma.

Other philosophers think that our morality is reflective of our environment, and it is what shapes us to be good or evil. So if you're neglected and treat badly, you may turn evil! But wait - there's more! Some say that a cruel environment fosters empathy in those more aligned to use it. Now that's an interesting conundrum! Let's say, that----"

Companies usually claim a lot of things but living up to those promises is a different story.
You can expect that the supervisor won't be an experienced translator familiar with all the works. It's more likely they'll just check if every bubble has been translated and even that won't be done thoroughly.
I read ten thousand manga pages per month but cross checking a translation would take far more time.
>>
>>286726150
Other people that don't know japanese trying to fix garbled wrong translations is the opposite of fine. Nothing they release will be in a readable state.
>>
Thank god I started learning Japanese. Just in time to avoid the AI translation apocalypse.
