This aspect of Cowboy Bebop always bothered the shit out of me. Space combat wouldn't involve small craft. There's no point.
>>286726670point is there's a resource scarcity because the overwhelming majority of everything goes towards sustaining the colonies, so small craft made of cheap materials is all anyone can afford to make. same reason there's a bounty system. the powers that be deemed it more cost effective to make freelancers buy ships and weapons and do the law enforcement for them than to actually commit to a standing army of 'space rangers' both big enough and well supplied enough to do law enforcement across the entire solar system
>>286726670>Why do gangbangers do drivebys in cars when tanks and APCs exist
Putting aside the fact that combat on a grand military scale clearly doesn't happen very often if at all in the bebop setting did you completely miss the fact that the Swordfish is just a scifi race plane fitted with a big laser
>>286726836*space combat, that is
I swear to god if it's that faggot again.
>>286726670Small ship with big gun makes perfect sense because it's a small target that can engage from long range
This was "interplanetary" travel, not "intergalactic" by any means. Plus, just getting from planet-to-planet required gigantic launching rings, not just "flying there." So, when someone was actually "flying" their spacecraft, it was in established orbit around a planet or inside its atmosphere.I watched Cowboy Bebop for its "Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts" jazz soundtrack.
>>286726670Why not?
