Now that the dust has more than settled, when did MHA jump the shark?I distinctly remember we used to have threads where the weekly manga chapters were seen in a positive light. Although the anime was already out, it was only the first season and it hadn't yet attracted the waves of secondaries - the art in the manga was still on point with glimpses of strong paneling, and the writing was either okay or at least unobtrusive. Was it a single event, like the reveal of OH MY SEVEN QUIRKS?Or was it a slow burnout, with Deku's character regression and/or lack of progress?
>>286726872When the author didn't go through with dark dekuI remember how excited everyone was about edgy deku doing lone wolf shit and then it instantly got resolved in like 3 chaptersI think that's when everyone gave up for real
I stopped reading at OH MY 7 QUIRKS. By far, one of the dumbest writing decisions in shonen manga I've seen.
>>286726872>Was it a single event, like the reveal of OH MY SEVEN QUIRKS?This was the smoking gun, but for me it was something more subtle i.e. the sudden omniscient narrator explaining the backstories of the antagonists in the Yakuza arc. A sign the author had just given up on proper plotting and storytelling.
>>286726872A slow burnout seems the likeliest But it didn't had its (negative) peaks. The seven quirks thing is one.Another way earlier, during the camp thing, when Izuku supposedly used OFA at 1000 or 1M % against muscular.Later they just tried to explain it as it was some sort of spiritual thing with Deku giving all he had and not literally that of a high percentage, but it sounds like bullshit to me.
>>286726872I’ve been here since both the manga and anime started. People loved MHA here up until the Yakuza arc where Hori wanted to try and make a longer arc with more characters. People were slowly getting tired of that arc, then Bakugo vs. Deku Round 2 happened where Deku lost (and evened their score) and people begun to go feral over the Bakugo wank.It was never about Deku needing to win, but snapping Bakugo out of his funk and getting them on equal speaking terms and become proper rivals.
>>286726872>Was it a single event, (...) or was it a slow burnout? It was actually both, 7 quirks was just the nail in the coffin to a very shitty overall characterizationBakugo not changing until the very fucking end, Midoriya going from hopeful to cryboy to edgyboy without any actual good exploration
Charm started to wear off around the end of the Yakuza arc. You can see it with the paintfags becoming more obnoxious.
>>286726872This spread is really fucking good, I wonder how butchered it gets in the physical release
>>286726872It jumped the shark when the story expanded it's scope outside of literally who's at school. The story should have remained limited in scope and focused on the kids until graduation, while introducing the societal challenges of hero society. This should then lead into an arc where the kids start working as heroes and through it the readers is exposed to how fucked the system is. The final part of the story should have been about fixing a broken system, where the "villains" are bureaucrats and a pacified population, not some faggy "demon king" weirdo. All this mess of a story did was introduce a dystopian society and end with it being a dystopian society but with this years weirdos dead or incarcerated, ready for the next batch to do it all over again while waiting for it all to blow up in everyones faces again.
>>286726872My mains problems with mha are: >insane plot armor vs very harsh treatment of some side characters>dropping some narrative themes halfway>race riots out of nowhere >the whole lone wolf vigilante arc is out of tone>cast is way too bloated
>>286726872Yakuza arc was when the cracks around his writing started to show. It was a pretty interesting scenario. The initial fallout from AM being gone and some of his history, Deku confronting his rival, Deku's first real mission after messing up his arms so he needed to fight smarter, the question of whether Deku was actually worthy, etc. Most of that shit got sidestepped or had very unsatisfying development which would be a consistent trend for the series
>>286727241He never used 1M%, that was him hyping himself up like a tennis player at a match shouting real loud while swinging their racket.
Mirio’s return.
>>286731028That Arc introduced a character that was supposed to have gotten OfA, Arc ended with that character still being the best candidate for OfA while Decuck remains lacking in all aspects
>>286726872You posted it, Yakuza arc was probably the last good one. It was followed by a couple inconsequential arcs (as much as I like Gentle/LaBrava), but the Paranormal Liberation arc was boring (and long) af; didn't help that it was followed by an even shittier edgy Deku arc, to then end on a really long, wet fart of Final War arcWhen it was still publishing I still thought that even though 7 quirks sounds stupid, it could make sense (and even be necessary) considering AllForOne was gonna be an insurmountable wall needing an unstoppable force. Hori made sure to prove me wrong, it was shitMultiple interesting ideas on each segment but never properly explored. The ending was just more of the same and I don't know if Hori gets off of making Izuku miserable
