What did boomers see in Gunbusters? It's just a training montage with 75% of the budget being spent in the last 20 minutes
>>286739497It invented fan service and aura farming. Also its ships are sexy.
>>286739713>It invented fan service and (meaningless zoomer buzzword)Grim.
Gunbusters made Evangelion possible
>>286740577Well OP is a zoomer, so I thought he might appreciate it more.
>>286739497>what if Midway but in space>what if the last sortie of the Yamato but in space>what if we just ripped off topgun to cover everything in betweenBasically the only thing going for it is the mechanical porn.
>>286739497and yet it still mogs 99% of anime coming out today
>>286739497>with 75% of the budget being spent in the last 20 minuteswhat? I feel like the budget got lower near the end, though they used nicer film stock so it has more detail. they just straight up have like a several minutes long fight sequence in episode 6 that's just static black and white pics drawn in pencil and kind of scribbled with weird effects over it to simulate movement even though the pic isn't moving
>>286739713is that from gun buster or diebuster? those ships look really smooth and textureless for gunbuster
>>286739497It's Gainax kino
>>286739497It is Ace wo Narae! (a great show) plus giant robots and teenage breasts. If you don't like it you should go die die!! die! die! die! die!
>>286742110>what if the last sortie of the Yamato but in spaceActually, I thought it was more like fending kamikazes off Okinawa and then dropping the Bomb. Then again, I watched it decades ago.>>286744538And a dose of old black-and-white war movies for the final episode. My gosh, I half expected a voiceover from Gregory Peck or Clark Gable. Best anime ending ever, no irony.
>>286739497HARD WORK AND GUTS! Two things your bitch zoomer ass will never understand.
>>286746676weird how the GUTS! thing used to be more culturally relevant in older war stuff. Like they specifically mention the guts behind the bayonet in ZULU (1964) and I guess it would have been more important than and war was also way less horrifying before WWI and the mech stuff is about romanticizing pre WWI combat Tons of people used to die in war, but your odds of dying in combat before WWI were way lower because all the soldiers would die of illness or exposure.like there were 9,000 men at San Juan hill and fewer than 200 died. or there were like 14,000 men at the battle of new orleans and only like 300 deaths
>>286747077dying from shitting your guts out in camp is pretty horrifying
>>286747102yeah, but the actual combat is less bad than >lol an artillery shell from a canon you can't see just killed you have fun and a lot of people shit themselves to death in their daily lives when not at war back then
>>286739713Aura farming has been around since the 60's at least.
>>286743985That's clearly Buster Machine 1&2 lil bro
>>286747331I've never seen diebuster homo, that lineart looks too smoothe for gunbuster. the ships in gunbuster looked more textured, fagolio
>>286746676>>286747077it's pointless because you'll never be able to afford a house and the concept of nation-states are outdated and destructive
>>286747330>Sixty's
>>286739497it's kinda like evangelion, you need to be into older otaku media to get its actual appeal because it's a love letter to the genre and the medium and is full of references
>>286739497Zoomers shouldn't legally be allowed to watch any anime made before 2010 and give their retarded takes on it.
>>286747499>you'll never be able to afford a houseI'm going to inherit three eventually. I just have to wait.
Macross is better
>>286747749Was it the 1st or 10th Space Battleship Yamato reference that clued you in?
Gunbuster is neat as a mission statement for gainax. It starts life as a very cynical fanservice project out to make a buck with what's left of their business relationship with Bandai, after they poured their hearts and souls into the much more serious and decidedly anti-genre Royal Space Force only for it to flop. But along the way as one ova scrapes up enough cash to become two and two becomes four and so on, they realize even if they're sending an otaku pandering robot with a cute girl to space, even if it's a mishmash of genre tropes, even if they were merely trying to sell discs in disgustingly pandering fashion, there's a more serious character story to be told even in that framework. And they're going to take it seriously themselves as they write and draw it and hopefully the audience appreciates it as more than the sum of its parts.
Rinne no Lagrange for boomers
>>286739497Boomers are the generation that created the current social climate of the obsession with fantasy and delusional feelings instead of actual facts. People's refusal to have any respect for actual facts, specifically scientific principles, is why the world is run by a cabal of ultra-rich pedophiles that nobody is willing or able to get rid of. Is it really surprised that boomers like giant robots? They're a perfect encapsulation of pure id without any regard for how reality actually works.
>>286747499>the concept of nation-states are outdated and destructiveUnlock the doors to the place you live in and let every unvetted person know they can freely enter. Then you will learn about an outdated and destructive concept from before nation states.
>>286748966the middle east lived though centuries of peace under empire rule
>>286747499I own my home
>>286739713>aura farmingkill yourself
>>286747701Its 'Sixties', Captain Thirdie. Sixties. Not 'Sixty is' which is what the apostrophe would imply.
>>286748189they sold it as parts? I thought OVAs were sold as 2 episodes to a VHS tape?
>Beautiful character designs with innovative breast physics>Awesome mecha designs with real robot mook goodness that escalates to the titular super robot>Beyond the base pleasures of girls and robots, you get a dramatic war story about personal sacrifice and the price of heroism>Short and sweet, memorable core cast, every episode is worthwhile>One of the best final scenes in animeIf you can’t at least understand why someone else would love Gunbuster then you have something wrong with you on the inside. My guess is you’re baiting.
>>286746076>>286744538This. Imagine watching a cool, fun show with a phenomenal ending like this and going "um wtf how do people even like this fr fr".
>>286747858these anons aren't readt for Macross, they couldn't handle it
