Are you still being contrarian and not admitting to yourself that it's kino?
>>287072016its good but sometimes feels to forced. taki loses his memory to instantly recover it to drink shitty sake because yes then goes with mitsuha body to a mountain where she is not then magic body switch i know exactly what to do offscreen saving the town (it was even possible?). 75% of the movie is forced drama
>>287072016Only good Shinkai movie, thought that doesn't do it justice. I don't know about what anyone else thinks, but it is pure kino of the highest order.
>I love youYeah it’s kino
>>287072016It was a great concept, but I gotta confess I don't remember a single thing that happens after the comet hits.
>>287072016It's really not good. The switch from bodyswap hjinks to save the village plotline is not done properly. Characters are also weak.Garden is Shinkai's best work.
>>287072016I long accepted that it's kino despite the flaws.
>>287072016I used to think the ending of Your Name was weak when I first watched it a decade ago. After watching it so many times and seeing how the industry and its storytelling evolved over the years, I did a complete 180 on it. I unironically think Your Name's ending is probably one the best of all time, from any media.
>>287072016>the movie where nobody looks at a calendarI don't know if this movie could work today because as soon as kids checked social media they'd know something was wrong.
>>287072621Fair.I head canon (though I think it's kind of implied) that when they are body swapped they experience it as more of a dream than if they were fully lucid.Something I did think was interesting is Mitsuha's phone is visibly an older model of smartphone than Taki's which I think is a fun detail.
>>287072016I find it funny how some people here praise the other Shinkai sad movies instead of this uplifting one which they these overrated.
>>2870732655cm per second IS very good. I would argue it's like a better and more well constructed story. But Your Name is overall a better watch.
I suspect asking chatgpt to generate the plot for a anime movie would result in a more interesting story than anything Shinkai produced post 5 Centimeters per Second.
>>287073104That seems like a really lame excuse to me; I think they just didn't realize. I literally didn't know what day it was until I just checked, and the year doesn't even show up on my phone. Besides, they're probably too busy trying to adjust to their new lives. It's not the best decision from a writing perspective, but it's enough.
Let's be honest if you body swapped what date it isn't wouldn't even cross your mind.
>>287073531Yeah but they body swap a lot for a pretty long period of time.
>>287072016yes, I am. I know that it's a 10/10 movie, but I don't want /a/ to think I'm a normi... *ahem* normalfag, and am scared of being bullied on /a/.
>>287072065>taki loses his memory to instantly recover itDude, it was the bracelet.>to drink shitty sake because yesThe kuchikamizake has half of Mitsuha's soul. This was established beforehand and Taki knows about it since he went on that trip to put it there. I think the themes are too Japanese or too spiritual for you.
>>287072016was this the most popular anime film ever?10 year anniversary this summer, feel old yet?
>>287072377please watch a second show, literally anything else
>>287072016Made me stop listening to radwimps :(
>>287072621I did a little check of this a few years ago, most of my shit doesn't have the year on it, my phone just shows the month and date even if you click on the calendar, no year to be found. A bunch of my work documents are the same, just a month and date, no year. Even my physical calendar just has the month and the date, and only on the very front is the year. How often do you look at the front of your calendar? Maybe once a year, if that, right? If Taki and Mitsuha were adequate years apart where the days of the week fall on the same dates then I bet they wouldn't figure out what year it is for a little while, maybe a couple months. Hell I keep forgetting that it's a new year until around July where I finally start thinking "oh yeah, it's not 2024 anymore lmao." The year is written on newspapers in the corner, but kids don't read newspapers. TV news states the date every once in a while, but I suppose you can handwave it to say the kids don't watch the news either, or maybe even if they were used to Heisei dates and not Gregorian (Heisei 31 = Gregorian 2019 etc.), or vice versa, then they could have actually heard the different dates but not realized it because they're dumb. I remember seeing the year put in big blocky letters on a banner at a mall during new years, but besides that I don't really see the year being printed anywhere in public all that often. I think this part at the very least is somewhat believable.
>>287076279he didnt know because lose his memory. even if he knew, it was stupid as shit and forced to create drama. he was wearing the bracelet before everything, watching it activated the process? thats why i say its forced. nothing of this is "japanese or spiritual"
I love it, although shinkai trying to catch the same lightning twice kinda retroactively ruined it a bit for me.
>>287078232>twiceI think you mean 7 times
>>287076916>he didnt know because lose his memoryWhat the fuck are you talking about? You're acting like he instantly lost all his memories. He was still agonizing over his memories, thinking, "It must've all been a dream.">it was stupid as shit and forced to create dramaIt's stupid and forced because you say so. Okay. Any criticism that isn't meaningless?>he was wearing the bracelet before everything, watching it activated the process?Thinking about the bracelet reminded him of the musubi conversation. Wow, all of this shit just went over your head. Do you know the thematic importance of the bracelet and what dream he had right after? Even the way you write makes you look retarded. Stick to shounenshit.
>>287078279Shinkai only made two films after Kimi no Na wa.
>>287078366The movie isnt deep thats why shounentards like it, stop pretending its well-written retard
>>287072016it was okay
>>287078424>The movie isnt deepand it's still too much for you to understand
>>287078391His same lighting style has existed ever since his first project. It's a recurring theme where even the staff during the audio commentary for Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo joke about it
>>287079418ESL-kun Lightning as in lightning in a bottleanon was bothered by shinkai trying to replicate his success with kimi no na wa in those other two films
