It's also a work that in the afterword has been described by other authors are divisive so it's definitely not for everyone to begin with. With that in mind I can't help but think that some of the changes were intentionally made to divide the fanbase even more. Or appeal to others that the original novel couldn't capture. Even the manga has ways of depicting things that are overly expressive or less restrained than the original that could be explained like that.
