Using Viz (an international third party) makes no sense as a source because they are negotiating international rights. Digital rights are yet another thing (which is why Shueisha doesn't have digital rights for many of their classic works including some that were never published physically elsewhere, at best they had to settle for selling the digital Shueisha version on their own digital store). But obviously there would be timed exclusivity once someone's publishing your stuff that you have to let lapse unless you want to start a fight. There's a completely random one-shot by a no name author from Weekly Shonen Jump a decade ago called Glass Feet and that author went and made that into a series at Square Enix, they then returned to Shueisha and published at Jump+ after that without issue. There are Jump authors who make dojinshi sequels to their works but usually they just continue them at another Shueisha magazine or a different publisher. The thing is that having the rights to continue your series doesn't matter much if you have to do it for free on Twitter because it's not worth money. There are tons of major examples where authors abandon one publisher for another midway but it's always dramatic and probably burns bridges permanently. Like Shaman King being erased from Jump history over the author's antics.
