You're the most important girl in the world, Asa.
Being afraid that you'll never achieve your dreams because of a great conspiracy against your entire sex is something that you're very justified to be concerned about.

>>287094345Looking at it clean, the yellow text says something like "Once you read it, you'll want to tell someone," the circle says "Koudai Makio's long awaited new work!!" and the vertical text is cut off but says something like "Is there someone, or something, that you are in love with?"
In the end, Emiri was still a pretty useless friend
>>287094645Why? She recorded and sent the video to Makio.

wait, so they skipped a bunch of stuff and still they didn't reach the end of the manga? what's the point of skipping stuff then?
>>287095200The manga was too long for a 13 episode adaptation. The anime basically chose a certain climax chapter as the finale and worked backwards to select what would stay and what wouldn't stay. The biggest thing to lose was Asa's struggle over understanding her father which started before the chosen climax and dragged on for a while after. So it made more sense to remove most of that struggle rather than end it half-way. The anime ties up in a neater package for it. To be fair the manga didn't give a strong resolution climactic resolution to the struggle. Asa's attempt to understand her father had a more vague resolution.
>>287095054I soft dropped it (that is, my heart wasn't in it but I felt compelled to see it through) a few episodes back. The characters turn out to be too simple, there is too much focus on Asa, and sure enough it all leads up to this perfect normalfag catharsis that makes me physically sick to watch. I wanted more Makio, more broken people that stay broken, more uncertainty.
>>287095180>I have no clue what "mikatzuki tamanegi" means.Maybe her hair is a clue.
The author really loved Mad Max Fury Road, didn't she?
Could've inserted the Emiri and Asa coming out conversation instead of wasting 10 minutes on the guy talk last episode.

>>287095497I'm really surprised that got left out of all things. Show has been pretty blunt about Asa and Emiri feeling like there's a distance between them and not adding the coming out scene to tie them back together is really weird.
>>287093827I think some stream service can buy a ONA season for the remaining episodes, fans of this one are normie and gay enough to interest western corpos.
>>287094645What did you want her to do? Somehow replace Asa's feelings of uncertainty about her place in the world with something else?
>>287095463Does this hair style look like a crescent moon to you?
>>287095401Makio was never broken or dysfunctional. But it is fair to say that the show is a bit too saccharine regarding the conclusions to Asa's struggle for identity. But it did qualify that with saying that you can't force help onto others and just because you dream about your actions helping others, doesn't mean that they will.
honestly, what a shit endingwhat a waste of time
Does it end on an anime original ending? If not then there is a chance of an OVA continuation. I don't think they will release a movie for this.
>>287095837What did you dislike?
What is the ending in the manga? Do we actually get a resolution for makio's hatred of her sister? Does she get together with her simp editor? Does emiri gay marry her lesbian lover? Did Asa's father hate her?Wtf?
>>287095977The ending doesn't exclude anything that came after in the manga. It just turns a certain major chapter into a finale but not to the exclusion of other stuff.
>>287095977>Does it end on an anime original ending? The ending is basically the ending of the manga, except slightly modified.
>>287095986>Do we actually get a resolution for makio's hatred of her sister?Sorta? Kinda?
>>287095977>>287095986There is still 5 volumes after this, it just acted as if it was an ending due to it's episodic nature. All these plot points get addressed except Makio hate, but you can't deduce what it is. Emiri /u/ thing gets it's "conclusion" exactly the 2 chapters if ya wanna check it.
fucking foids........
>>287096065>you can deduce what it is>exactly in the next 2 chaptersFix'd.
Gonna be honest guys, I preferred the manga much more than the anime for this one. They had to cut and abridge a lot of cool shit to fit the anime format, all for it to not be visually as interesting as the source work. One good thing it did though is it attracted more people to Yamashita Tomoko works, since no one gave a fuck about her before aside from some tumblr foids. It already garnered a new audience though, so what purpose would a S2 achieve? What would you guys want to see you can't with the manga? Also I particularly hate they overdramatized this singing thing just because it's the last EP. It's just some students singing in the hallway, don't act like you're Haruhi lmao.
>>287095823>Makio was never broken or dysfunctional. You're right, but it does bait you into thinking so at the start.

>>287095401>>287095823yeah I don't remember why but I thought this show would've been more about Makio instead of it feeling like 75% Asa
>>287095401>there is too much focus on AsaThat is a thing I didn't like about the adaptation too, there are whole chapters where Asa barely appears in the source material, even though she is mostly always mentioned somehow. It's all mostly here too, but always edited in such a way to give focus to Asa.
>>287096304wait i meant to give a (You) to >>287096231
>>287095986Kasamachi and Makio have been fucking for a while by the anime finale. They cut a little half-chapter of them talking after sex in bed.
>>287096279that would've made Emiri even sexier thoughever
>>287096211Personally I preferred the presentation of the anime simply because it was easier to follow the dialog. Yamashita has a lot of pages where, at least in the English TL, it is hard to tell who is saying what and when. Where the anime made that a lot more comprehensible. I'm also a sap so I liked how it upped the sense of drama to a lot of things.
>>287095054I did make it until the end but looking back I should have dropped it after like 6 or 7 episodes. The second half was mostly boring.
>>287096304Well, the beginning was fairly split between them. Asa took more of a protagonist role as it went on, where Makio became less of a POV character and more of a figure we perceive from the outside.
>>287095488cringe
Now that it's all said and done, how much did the anime cut/change?>>287095180>Could be some way to cut onionsI think it's when you cut one in half, then vertically slice along the grooves to end up with thin crescent strips. The individual strands lightly resemble something like that.

Is the manga ending more conclusive? As in giving better conclusion to all the characters? I get what this episode was going for but as a conclusion it just didn't feel that satisfying. Honestly I think this was the weakest episode of the series.
For anyone looking to continue with the series, I'd recommend starting with Volume 7, chapters 31-35.

>>287097068I will read it from the beginning.
>>287097144Yes.
>>287096998This. It felt rushed as well. Any chances of getting the remaining chapters adapted?
>>287096396Well, fair enough, I had to go back sometimes to clear up what was going on, although if you focus a bit more this becomes less of a issue.>>287096396It's mostly that it strimmed a lot of stuff rather than cut it. It's a very dialogue heavy work with a lot of banter, so they end up cutting a lot of it while only saying the important bits. It works sometimes, but most of it turns out really shallow. >>287096815 for instance is contained into a single chapter about "le toxic masculinity™", and dives much deeper into the subject (even if kind misleading since, you know, woman author), meanwhile the anime scatters it through out EP 11 to 12 and pretty much only delves into the issue with this discussion out of nowhere, while also abridging it, making it look like a very tumbleresque strawman when it really isn't. You noticed this baseball thing was about da mans? Doubt any anime only would.Things only really started being left out Vol 7 afterwards like others mentioned (some of Vol 6 too but nothing major), so you can read from there, but I would recommend starting from the beginning so you can grasp things much better.
I fucking loved it. Teared up a bit when Asa finished the song. Loved the series, loved the OST, loved the cast. Almost every episode made me emotional or made me think a lot about these characters, sometimes both. Easily my AOTS, gonna be a strong contender for AOTY too. >>287098760The early stuff isn't really different enough to be all that interesting if you just watched the anime. The end of vol 6, start of vol 7 is where Yamashita starts introducing the Father Plotline, so that is where its worth picking up if you just want the new stuff. Only a bit of rereading.
>>287098840Like, there are bits of different stuff that changes one's interpretations. Asa's Grandmother made her identify her parent's corpses in the manga, but that line was cut from the anime to make her more sympathetic, as an example. But you get mostly the same experience overall, for the first half.

>>287098840>The early stuff isn't really different enough to be all that interesting if you just watched the anime. There's a lot more details since the anime had to skip stuff though, so I wouldn't say it's completely uninteresting.
I liked the last episode as a manga reader, it hurts a little not to see Makio's resolution, but seeing how josei anime are being so butched in recent Adaptations I think this is the best result; you can tell the staff loves this manga, and I manage to convey the message of the work itself, the connections, and Overcome life to change the lives of people, the world, and your loved ones and seeing Asa sing the opening brought a tear to my eye.

Well, I really liked it overall, but I thought this last episode was a little underwhelming. Everything involving Asa and Makio learning to coexist was great, and since that was more or less resolved already, this was just tying up Asa's character arc (but even then, it was already more or less done). I think most of the side characters were either underutilised or just not very interesting in the first place, but Makio's perspectives on life were always interesting, and Asa was cute and endearing. I'd give it like an 8.5 in the end. Really it just needed Makio in every scene, then it would be my aots.

>>287096211I dropped the manga because the early chappys felt like they were very directly and faithfully adapted, out of the 14 or so chappys I read I think I noticed one story change? It just felt like I was experiencing the anime again, which I didn't care to do so soon. Perhaps in the future I'll pick it up and properly read it. Overall, I liked the anime and I thought that everything up to the emotional climax of asa finally accepting her parent's deaths was very good. It was a poignant scene and it did a great job of earning that emotion. But afterwards, the story just sort of meandered until the end. I understand that the point is that asa feels lost and aimless, so it makes thematic sense that the plot and episodes feel like that, too, but I think it would have greatly benefited from either an increase in Makio screentime and a greater focus on her struggle to come to terms with her sister, or, more radically, shift perspectives entirely so that Makio is center stage for the second half and that inner conflict is futher explored. Perhaps saving the rest of the asa feels retarded plot for a s2, if there could be one. Still, the anime had pretty visuals and music, especially asa's voice, super pretty, and it resonated with me as a whole. I would probably give it a solid 8 if I had to give it a number, but I'm being quite generous and forgiving of the second arc because I liked the first so much. The anime ending as it stands feels 95% complete and the final final scene goes even further than the manga, but there are enough lingering questions (How did Emiri & Asa rekindle their friendship when it looked like they were drifting apart? How did Asa feel about her dad?) that an anime-only could have answered by reading the manga or waiting for a hypothetical S2. I’m just glad the adaptation didn’t rush to or skip over scenes/conversations in the back half just to do a complete adaptation, a S2 wouldn’t skip over these critical things and if you thought this ending was mid, a better one is out there waiting to be adapted (really glad the didn’t skip over Makio’s blog stuff at the very last minute, it would be really important to the true ending).

The genre isn't "bad", it's just that writing on this level is difficult to pull off, and most people aren't up to the task. Like Takopi, which was embarrassing, lowbrow, would-be-manipulative filth. This show will probably stick with me for a long time.

Obviously they don't want uggos at their school. Can't blame them for that. She does have the JK batman card to play in pretty much ever conversation. Gross what is that thing? For once what the hag is saying is accurate. However I see nothing wrong with feeling little to nothing. You reach a zen state where no matter what happens, you don't really care and just keep trucking along. Better than being thrown a curve ball every other day by random shit. Why does that JK sound like she smokes a pack a day?I hate double dialog. WITNESSED! She witnessed her, she is awaited in Valhalla! Silly and cute.Anon is a lone wolf.Time skip to cakes because why not. That was an interesting show. >>287095324>The biggest thing to lose was Asa's struggle over understanding her fatherActually, I think the biggest thing to lose was Emiri coming out of the closet to Asa
>>287107570True, but that happened after the concert, where Asa's struggle with her father started before it. It was insane that they cut that, however. As-is, Emiri and Asa go from growing apart to being lifelong friends again without that meeting and closure to their distance happening.
>>287107631>where Asa's struggle with her father started before it.But most of it was after the concert
>>287107681Yes. But I was going by what was cut from what we already got and not just what did not happen yet. There's a good bit that otherwise we'd be missing just from the anime.
>the father>the father>the fatherAre you guys projecting because you had shitty relationships with your fathers or is just because you're daddy's boys?Sure, the guy was a void and a mystery, so what? I don't remember Asa being so obsessed to the point it stood out in the manga for more than a few chapters. Much less so to feel it should have been more present in the anime. Minori on the other hand...
>>287107841It was pretty much implied from the mother's memories that the father didn't love his family
>>287107841She had a whole arc about trying to find the truth about her father's feelings or personality. And this also brought in a bunch of other characters into the mix, like Kasamachi handling his trauma. It wasn't super long, but it lasted about 2 volumes or so to my memory, which is substantial for the length of the series. Of course the answer was just that he was a pretty empty fucking guy that no one knew anything about and she would have to live with that mystery.
>>287107841There aren't many male characters to relate to. A couple walking sex dolls, a jock and a nobody who died.
>>287107964Having a personality is a male-centric ritual
>>287096211>pic relatedThe manga has a way of drawing Asa walking that's very cute which isn't captured by the anime
>>287108110
>>287108110Asa does not walk. She has Heelys built into her body that enables her to glide around when she maintains that stance.
>>287107923That's what I remember as well. Those chapters had a weird pacing with other characters jumping out of nowhere which dilluted any sort of impact. Asa's struggle with losing her dad and the disconnect she was always go feel didn't feel as heart wrenching as the mom stuff. I suppose it's because Minori was a whole lot more present and directly shaped Asa's personality. Plus, women seem to have some special relationship with their mothers on some womanly spiritual level or whatever. All in all, I think it's clear Asa would have a harder time moving on without coming to terms with her mom rather than not figuring out her father. I was pretty sure they'd cut that most of that out from the adaptation because there wasn't enough meat.

Who did Asa get married to?
>>287109815chiyochichi
>>287100710I would agree with you but there are women who can meaningfully explore masculinity if they're not explicitly writing about masculinity. Like Hiromu Arakawa. I don't think Silver Spoon ever says the word masculinity but manhood is undoubtedly an important theme when most of the major characters are male and Hachiken's character arc is all about him finding his place in the world and growing from a boy to a man. Arakawa can write masculinity as well as any male writer. She also wrote Hachiken's conflict with his father as he carves out his own path and the two come to an understanding in a compelling and authentic way. I think female writers might have a penchant for writing that kind of father-son conflict even though they didn't experience it themselves. Two men with their own strong ideals and duties which lead them to clash, and you can see where both of them are coming from. Kaoru Mori did it too in Emma.

>>287101577>>287101705No, that's such a female mentality. I got quite a bit of female attention through middle and high school which I certainly didn't mind even if it was a girl I wasn't into. I only regret the tactless ways I'd react because I was an awkward kid without the social acumen to know how to deal with these situations. I probably hurt a few girls. I once rode an intercity bus and talked with the guy sitting next to me. It turns out he's gay and for some reason was convinced that I was gay too and kept flirting and even trying to make physical contact. I kept dropping hints that I'm not gay and trying to shut him down but he didn't seem to get it. Maybe I could've been more direct. After a few hours, he finally outright asked me if I was gay or bi and I told him no. The rest of the trip was awkward. Anyway, I'd later talk about this incident with some of my friends and we agreed that he was overstepping boundaries. At no point was I ever disgusted by the thought that any of them were fantasizing about being with me, and I don't see why I should be disgusted. Only women think like that.

The thread's basically been on life support with page 9 bumps all day, so for anyone that wants to transition over to the manga, I'll post the volume the last few episodes have covered as a way to move you along into reading it. Mainly because it introduces the plotline regarding Asa's father that you'd be kinda blindsided with if you just jumped straight to the next chapter after where the anime cut off (Chapter 36). There's some stuff earlier that was cut or changed, but people in the thread have largely already talked about that. No, I'm not the storytime OP.
If you ever wondered how these two ended up together.

>>287129622>you'd be kinda blindsided with if you just jumped straight to the next chapter after where the anime cut offNah don't do that (or that's what I would say if you hadn't already dumped it). Anyone who wants to read the manga should start from the beginning.
>>287131017How come everything else from this mangaka is yuri or yaoi faggotry?
>>287131428Not all of it. But she did write primarily in the Yaoi category without putting much thought into it until she discovered liberal politics and decided to write series with socio-political messages instead of just genre typical gay stuff. >https://www.pixivision.net/en/a/6481
Why couldn't they adapt the whole manga 1:1 without skipping anything? T_T It's not like this would need a lot of budget? It's not a battle shounen.......
A scene from the later part of the manga that I would've liked to see adapted is when fatty makes Asa cry because what she said was too hurtful (ironically while trying to encourage and comfort her no less). It was funny.
>>287131510>liberal politicsI won't call Ikkoku Nikki politically left despite the obvious Yuri subplot. It talks about family, relations, grief, accepting others, raising a child etc. All these themes are conservative compared to the woke/gender fluid bullshit that's popular within the gender fluid retards. Even the basic liberal mindset is too individualistic. Lol the whole arc of Makio is about looking at the word beyond her fantasies, that's what raising a child is all about.
>>287131598Liberal politics can be pro-family, the thing here it that they mostly focus on non-traditional family structures. Makio, Kasamachi and Asa are a good example of that. It's the found family trope but with actual family dynamics.
>>287131598Bringing up the medical school admissions scandal, including Juno as an androgynous character, having Kasamachi and the Lawyer talk about how male oneupsmanship is toxic, including Emiri as a grounded depiction of a young lesbian, having Minori deal with traditional womanhood in emotionally complicated ways, etc., is all pretty liberal. No, it isn't talking about how you should be acegender transbinary hemiromantic or whatever, but you're working within the framework of the society and the writer being herself, a woman in her 40s. The story isn't totally about individualism, for sure. If anything it is clear that individualism is not a solution given that everyone relies on friends to support them in this series. So it does differ from modern progressivism that seems to resent any type of strong social bond that isn't centered around politics. Yamashita is too intelligent to fall for that.
>>287130066You're not getting married.
>>287130961Chiyo really looks like Makio in the manga.
>>287130340Doggy
>>287131663>The story isn't totally about individualism, for sure. It's Japanese, man. Individualism is a flaw in Japan. If that's your standard everything fails.
>>287131977I wouldn't say that, the standard shonen manga is built around individualistic protagonists and those are read by every child in the country at this point. And magazines like WSJ make sure not to rock the moral boat too hard. It isn't that individualism is a flaw, it is that clannish beliefs are still accepted alongside it, and there's a higher expectation for you to respect them as valid. The West mainly lacks the latter at this point, so the balance looks different.
>>287131977This is westoid non sense. Japs like individualism, but a "noble" individualism, like shounen protagonists, samurai, music stars... People who go for what is right or go against what is wrong in society. What they don't like is self entitled individualism or people being retarded. While someone like Makio would be viewed unfavorably IRL, the average Japanese viewer comes to respect what she believes in since we have a full picture of what she stands for, the reliance on others thus becomes a counter to that, and is ultimately the message it ends on. Otherwise, it really would be self indulgent.>>287131510>discovers liberal politics>starts writing better shit than 90% of mangaWhat did she discover westoids didn't...
