I checked it out after hearing it being thrown out along with Berserk, Vagabond, and Vinland Saga as a seinen manga with terrific visuals. Overall I thought that it was a good 7/10. Mori is a good main character despite his flaws as being an autistic hermit (he's literally me). I really enjoyed seeing him change throughout the story. You really get a sense of how he feels throughout the story from the exaggerated art, from the disgust he felt from certain interactions with female characters to how physically exhausted he was after hours/days of climbing. I feel like the only thing that kept it from being better was that It felt like the author didn't commit to the ending that he really wanted. I got the impression that he wanted the story to end with Mori dying at the top of K2 (which after reading his column at the end of the manga I see that he was really split on the decision). I think it would honestly been better as a tragedy, along with a future final scene of Rokka one day finding his old climbing equipment. He probably changed it at the last minute seeing that he was very close to death at the top of K2 and yet was somehow able to get down of the mountain after find rope a team left behind on the easier to traverse side that was casually mentioned in the final chapter. At least our boy got a happy ending, even if he's a few digits short. Did you enjoy it /a/? Have you hiked or climbed up a mountain after reading it? It has me wanting to try it out this summer.
I climbed a mountain and died. FUCK this manga, should have read Yuru Camp instead
mountaineers are frauds. the sherpas do all the work
mangakas are frauds. the assistants do all the work
anons are frauds. AI do all the work
AI is a fraud. Electrons do all the work
>>287105770I would've preferred a tragedy too. Would've felt more heroic. But also the original, irl Buntarou died doing the same shit and the mangaka sounded like a fan of his in the afterword. Dunno, I think it was a nice way of honoring his legacy.
