I think it peaked here...

Prior to chimera ants?

It probably peaked in the middle of the ant arc, basically right before the palace invasion.

Yorkshin peak
G.Island peak
Chimeras peak
>>
>>287117342
If we're talking about individual moments, then yes the Chimera Ant has the highest peaks. But as a whole arc, I think Greed Island was the most well-rounded.
>>
>>287115809
The peak is the palace invasion. But honestly, based greedo aislando enjoyer.
>>
>>287115809
Greed Island and Chimera Ant were my favorite arcs, so I agree. While Greed Island gets a lot of shit I appreciate what it was, a little adventure with not many stakes before the whole ant crisis. Biscuit was fun, seeing Gon and Killua team up with Hisoka was awesome and the final fight with the Bomber was pretty dope even if he wasn't the best villain out there.
>>
>>287115809
I can see someone preferring this arc because they love their gay light hearted Shonen adventures, But on both writing and entertainment value, I can’t imagine anyone considering greed island the peak of this series.

Always thought people were too rough on Greed island.
Granted, it lower stake than the spiders arc, but i find it more enjoyable. The nen expansion was neat, the tests and card applications are fun, and the final fight against boomer is amazing, really a highlight and one of my favorite fights in shonen.

Yorkshin ends anticlimactically and Emperor's Time was bullshit. Chimera Ant is way too long and slow, and again is full of bullshit. Greed Island didn't drag for too long, it had a good balance between action and dialogue, it resolved everything in the end and didn't have major issues besides the card that restored Gon's hands. It wasn't my favorite at first either, but looking back it might be the most consistently fun arc. But I know that's a hot take.
>>
>>287120622
>Yorkshin ends anticlimatically
It didn’t end anticlimactically in my opinion. The emotional turmoil we see Kurapika go through when handling Chrollo, pakunodas final memories, the troupe arguing about their next moves, and watching Hisoka’s disappointment were all exciting and enjoyable.
>emperor time is bullshit
Half and half, but that’s because we know of its side effects now,

>chimera is way too long and slow
It’s a little too long, but I think almost everything was necessary for building up to the palace invasion. I reread it recently and the beginning and endings are amazing, the middle is iffy but are necessary, because that’s when we get Komugi/Mereum build and Gon/Killua training to be ready for their biggest battle.

My biggest critique for chimera ant arc is that there was too much battles against fodder ants with little depth. I think after kite died we should’ve been done with fodder ants. If Togahsi minimized all the fodder ant fighting post-kite , and compacted some of the middle chapters (the palm date was fucking pointless even as comedic relief), the pacing would be much better.

But even then, I get why we have these fodder fights. They show how Gon and Killua have improved.

>chimera ant bullshit
I disagree on this end, assuming I know what you’re talking about.

>Greed island didn’t drag for too long
I think it’s ultimately forgettable outside of razor dodgeball and the final Genthru fight. People call those the high notes of the arc, but I think they’re genuinely the only worthwhile part of the arc.

>resolved everything didn’t have major issues
Agreed. Gon vs Genthru is one of my favorite fights

My hot take is that election arc and Hunter exam are both underrated. Hunter exam is only “bad” if you’re just genuinely burnt out on light hearted shonen , and has aged nicely. Election arc is entertains start to finish with the best pacing in the series.

>>287120622
Honestly for these reasons I think I liked Greed Island more than Yorkshin, even though Kurapika vs Uvogin is one of the best fights of the show.
>>
>>287115809
Yeah, HxH was fun up until and including Greed Island. When I've read the manga I ended up dropping it relatively early into the Chimera arc because it just felt much more boring than all the previous arcs until then.

Greed Islands weakest point when comparing it to Yorkshin/Chimera is the supporting cast, practically all the side characters of GI just feel like irrelevant jobbers, "Here's those nen users I was telling you about". I think people really take notice of this, or maybe they don't really notice it but still feel it subconsciously. Yorkshin arguably has the strongest side character cast out of the big 3 arcs, so coming off of Yorkshin the new characters of GI feel pretty weak, and it really doesn't help that the phantom troupe is still hanging around in that arc

I agree that Greed Island was top-notch, and I preferred it in '99 over 2011.

What is it about the chimera ant arc that resulted in a loud minority who absolutely hate it? The arc is constantly in best manga arc discussions, best Hunter arc discussions, many people cite it as the main reason they put 2011 as one of the greatest anime, but I’ve seen tons of people who loved everything in the anime except the chimera ant arc , think the arc is shit, it ruined their enjoyment of the series, etc.
Is it simply because it’s long? I don’t get what else it could be. Will the succession war go through the same thing? Yea there are people who don’t like yorknew or greed island but they aren’t as “loud” about it
>>
>>287131503
You can usually break it down into a few common complaints.
>too long/bad pacing
this is mainly caused by the anime being dogshit in regards to how it handled the start of the arc
>where are kurapika/leorio/hisoka etc.
this is people not being used to stories being able to cycle cast members in and out and automatically see it as a bad thing they arent forced into it, and its exacerbated due to the length of the arc.
>muh show dont tell
retards who think narration is automatically bad, they should just be completely disregarded.

First time watching HxH, just hit episode 100. Why did they make Killua so adorable? Every time he’s on screen I just imagine how warm his thighs must be.
>>
>>287131503
It's super long and boring. The main impetus in the arc is Gon's desire to save/avenge Kite, but the anime doesn't give us a reason to care about Kite since they cropped him out of the first episode.
So from the perspective of an anime-only, the arc boils down to 60 episodes of nonstop fighting to avenge a character who was just introduced to the viewer. And then it turned out Kite wasn't even [permanently] dead.
Plus with the exception of Meruem and Shaiapouf, the cast of villains is mostly forgettable. I think the current manga arc is way better and has a far more interesting cast
>>
>>287132091
I rate chimera ant arc relatively high, but succession war improves upon every critique I had of CA. I couldn’t give a shit about any of the ants outside of Mereum and the royal guards, and the succession war side characters are much more interesting. Both arcs are long and slow, but the succession war is so ambitious it makes every page feel important.

But back to the CA ARC; Maybe i just don’t get what people love about the series…but I don’t get hating CA but loving the rest of the series. Like, if chimera ant arc has suspect writing, then id have to think the same thoughts would apply to maybe every other arc except maybe yorknew, with greed islands shitty side characters, boring plot, mediocre villain, or heavens arena generic fodder and only being interesting due to the novelty of nen and the Hisoka fight, or election arc with the shitty Alluka and kite revival and the goofiness of the hunter association.

why are her tits so big?
>>
>>287132209
Heaven's Arena is fun because it's short and to the point. Greed Island is slow but I was honestly fine with it. Hisoka's presence helps both arcs of course.
Election is actually one of my favorite arcs just because I love Pariston and Ging
>>
>>287132284
Hmm, it makes sense. I just expected there to be more “I found HunterXHunter mediocre , and chimera ant arc was the breaking point”, instead of “I loved HunterXHunter until the chimera ant arc” people , simply because I felt every arc had its pitfalls and shitty writing elements. I guess the chimera ants arcs weaknesses are the most magnified due to the pacing and length.
>>
>>287132321
Well Chimera is the arc most removed from the rest of the story.
There's no Kurapika or Leorio, no Hisoka, little Troupe, no Pariston or Ging or Zodiacs.
So if those are the characters you're most invested in then the arc feels like a giant detour.
But I think it works better in the manga due to Kite being introduced in the first chapter and having more of a built up relationship with Gon
>>
I've read the manga and watched the 2011 anime twice each, and since I'd read online so many times that the first episode of the 99 adaptation fixes the glaring issue of Kite being cut out of the 2011 version, I finally got around to watching it.
And damn, it just does a much better job of setting up the story as a whole, I should have watched the entire 99 version sooner.
>>
>>287132409
>>287132393
Togashi is sneakily good at making characters seem like they’ve had more screen time than they actually had.

Kite was only around for 11 chapters (including chapter 1) before he died. Go back and count the scenes of Mereum and Komugi. It’s gonna be a lot less scenes than you probably assumed, yet it FEELs like they had a shit ton of screentime showing their bond.
I don’t know how he does it.

Every arc in hxh is great because unlike a lot of other shonen the character arcs are consistent and continuous, you won’t get any retcons In behaviour and often times you see characters gradually grow, Gon and Killuas brotherhood is perfectly encapsulated with its own arc in the entire 11 anime, so no matter what people say about how fluctuate the cast is, Gon and Killua always get more melodrama during it.

Chimera ant arc js absolutely the peak of the series tho, even artistry wise, it by far has the best paneling of the manga as well as just fantastic spreads in general
