Anime subs are getting weird
>>287134271They used "Can it!" over and over in Yuusha Kei too, had no idea what the fuck was going on. Can it? Can it what? Can what do what? Where is this nonsense diction coming from?
What annoys me is that she obviously said "dick head" in reference to his hair. Fucking subbers always ruining jokes.
>>287134542America, more specifically California
>>287134271>>287134563>チンカスDon't complain about subs if you don't understand Japanese
>>287134271dekiru, chimpo kasu! >:3
delete this
>>287134542Holy ESL
>>287134542Can it, as in "Shut up", come on, I'm not even EOP.
Agreed
You don't even get dick buildup unless you go like 2 weeks without showering
>>287134542you are retarded
>>287134271This one's actually a faithful translation. She calls him smegma in Japanese.
>>287134271>>287135060Total death to all "localizer".
>>287135629Was this written by anyone who matters?
>>287135693Yes, more matters than you.
>>287135756Ok, so no.
>translates the context with american-isms
>>287135693nabokov was about a billion times more qualified to speak on this matter compared to the modern trannyslator
>>287135946I remember reading the phrase>as all get outIn Demon Slayer
>>287134271this one is accurate tho, i'm actually surprised
>>287135629I predict there won't be any significant number of localizer deaths in the next 10 years.
>>287135025So what makes using the word "can it" more preferable than using words like "shut it" or "shut up" in this situation? aside for appealing to lingo-speaking zoomer of course.
>>287136062>"Am I gonna get beheaded? Nah man, I'm good."I can't believe this was really used for the translation.
>>287136122I don't like "can it" either, I just felt like showing off.
>>287134542can as in "tin can"
>>287136135No accomplishment trannylators are desperate to inject their own color into another person works so that they can brag about how they're making things (((better))).
>>287135629>snobby russophile r*ssian diaspora bloviating about accuracy when it makes most contexts sound retarded
Speak o muse about a feeling so complicated
>>287135693One of the most notorious authors of the Russian language speaking directly on the translation of a novel from Russian to English. Whether you personally like his works or not, he is an effective translator since many of his own novels are successful in English. There are few in that scene who matter more. Grant you, he is speaking about the translation of A Hero of Our Time, which was and is an often sensationalized and misunderstood book. That passage is contempt for translators who were genuinely misrepresenting the text.
>>287134271>Non-Americans complain about subs made by AmericansLike can it dick cheese.
Do you want everyone to talk in super formal bland English? As long as it gets the same point across and doesn't change the story, I don't give a shit.
>>287136435>nuance? wtf is that shi bro jus gt 2 da fite
>>287136435You should probably just watch dubs if you want them to speak English.
>>287135693Without based Nabokov we wouldn't even have the term 'loli'.
>>287136461Wow in this translation they said ''That's very strange, firend'' instead of ''That's weird as hell, dude!'' WOW SO DIFFERENT.
>>287136477I watch both.
>>287136435Yes, I do.
>>287136122>appealing to lingo-speaking zoomer"can it" is older than your mom, retarded esl
>>287136613>can't answer the question, appeal to antiquity instead. You can't answer because you know he's right right?
>>287134542>Can it? Can it what? Can what do what?I assume it's "can" the noun for a small cylindrical metal container not "can" the verb, so the implication is like "put it in a can instead of saying it" which is still stupid but has at least an actual meaning.I'm ELS tough so who knows
>>287136501That explains a lot dubnigger.
>>287137311Having seen multiple anime in both, most anime are basically the same in both, quality of acting aside. There's only a few anime dubs that change the tone and plot but they tend to be children's shows anyways.
>>287137246probably another way of saying "put a lid on it"
>>287137349Anime easy as hell to translate and dub, it basically made for it due to the lack actual lipsync which is also why the style of voice acting no matter how good be it in Japanese or anything else will always have that ''anime sound'' to it because of how they animate first voice act second vs everyone else voice act first and animate second. You watch live action Japanese films and they don't sound like how they do in anime.
>>287136122Theoretically, it could informally convey a difference in rank. You could say "can it" when annoyed by your subordinates, whereas "shut up" is typically more angered. But obviously shit translators just go for sounding colloquial when they're not putting thought into it.
Even if you say that, it can't be helped
>>287135060>MansplainingWhen is woman-understanding going to catch on?
>>287134542SHUT. UP.
>https://greensdictofslang.com/entry/4kajl5y>can v. -- to have anal sex withit means they want to be fucked in the ass, gently
>>287134271They're trying to bring anime down to their level
>>287136062I'd consider using the phrase to convey a Kansai dialect considering how you hear Texans often use it.
>>287134271Who from what?
Would you buy a can of her dick cheese?
>>287135629the writer must always translate his own works like Nabokov
>>287142631What if they're bad at translating?
>>287137841What's that?
>>287134576Nobody in California uses slang from the 90ths
>>287134563fucking retard it said CHINKASU which means smegma
>>287135629I don't have the time or energy needed to learn a new language just so that I can watch anime, and for what?
>>287136122Just accept that you're not as fluent in English as you think you are and stop thinking that very normal translations are bad because they used a phrase you aren't familiar with. Remember the 'Manga English' you read from guys like Kirei Cake or old Mangastream is not normal English.
>>287136435They don't want formal English . They want the very stilted and awkward English they're used to reading amateur scanlations as their primary form of literature.
>>287134542Shut the fuck up, dick breath.
>>287134271I'm more baffled by the use of "they" to characters. Digimon newest season is the worst offender on that. Instead of calling the digimons by name or "it" like it used to, the trannylators are going out of their way to use "they"
>>287136501>>287137349you are a normalfag who should go back and kill himself
>>287135629Do localizers not understand the definition of intent at all
>>287135693it's AIslop parodying a pedo "author" etc do not bother about taking this meme seriously
>>287136435piss off, cunt
>>287135946>>287136062Fucking Bocchi talking about her mum and shit, fuck you you fucking BRITS
>>287141602British is way better as a Kansai stand-inHell, even New York or Boston would work better than Southern
>>287136493that's whack, bro
>>287137408Well the animators imitate the script first, some even time out the dialogue with a stopwatch, then they animate based on their imitations/times, then they get the professionals to voice act over it. So it's not like they're just winging it
>>287148557This dude's pretty cool in my book
>>287134542"can it" is archaic
>>287141602Gee willikers pardner
I hate using modern western slang in anime subs in one episodes of Sakamoto days someone say "get off my dick" and I know for a fact that Japanese don't say such things
Just fun our Japanglish! (*´・ω・)(・ω・`*)ネー
>>287149302He's right. Translated poetry is usually such a radical departure from what the author actually wrote it should barely count as translation in the first place.
>>287142912Being slow and missing the point, obviously
>>287136122can it isn't zoomer lingo but rather unc speak
>>287153651"Can it" is much older than gen alphas.
>>287134271Can somebody explain this one?
>>287141376Americans are so fucking disgusting
>>287141376>>287153774Anime is filled with gore and sex.
>>287136435Why can't they talk like normal people instead of a bizarre mixture of dated slang from 10 years ago and even more dated slang from 80 years ago?
>>287153866
>>287153774Yeah, keep sex out of anime, amirite.
>>287153752zuberi cute :D
>>287149302>>287135629There is a difference between an academic translation and entertainment translation. You don't give primary school children the same versions of the Iliad as undergrads. That isn't a blanket pass to localizers to do a terrible job with their embarrassing and out of touch colloquialisms either. Simply a refutation that the intent of localization is not wrong. The alternative "solution" people insist on is romanization and transliteration which is no more legible or accurate than a machine translation which is only enjoyable by the most pretentious weebs. The best approach when localization is a step too far is translation notes in annotations OUTSIDE the main translation the reader can review at their leisure without interrupting the narrative.
>>287156128Let's be real though, 99% of cases you have a SENSIBLE path to translation/localization most people will at least understand. That doesn't mean "perfect" translations would ever exist but "alright" translations definitely do. People shit on the 1% that are completely pulled out of retards ass.
>>287141376This OP keeps exposing retards, it's amazing
