Chapter 66It's been a while but it's time for another volume. Previously, Shima and Hatsushiba were having to deal with a partnership with Chufa that seemed to be a little two-faced as they had to deal with some false advertising Chufa was putting out while at the same time, politicians and Japanese business leaders were debating what the launch of the Shenzhou 5 space mission meant more broadly for China's emerging global role. However, the main story development was the return of Noriko which was brought about by the passing of another member of the Hatsushiba old guard when Oizumi died following a bad fall. With Oizumi gone, Noriko decided to move to Beijing to take over the snack bar Oniyama and after arriving, immediately caught the eye of Chufa's CEO Sun Rui. The two entered into a relationship with Sun at first trying to hide his status but eventually revealed it after learning the Noriko's ex-lover was Shima. Trying to compete with Shima, he held a large party to introduce Noriko as the woman he loved but Noriko would leave in huff... a ploy on her part to show Sun who was really in control in their relationship.
This volume opens right up with one of those "middle-aged guys in suits debating broader society" chapters.
>>287146531but who is the dashing gentleman on the third panel
>>287146624Somebody unimportant but who ladies love. He's curiously attractive for a businessman.

>>287146875Shima's back! If they react like that with loose socks, and paint huffing, I wonder what would be their reaction at current youth.
>>287146451This's got to be a joke!
>>287150300What the fuck are you here for then?>hurr durr how dare you consider problems in your society and ways to fix them
>>287146825At the time of this writing, my bar was still there. Hell, what year is it in-story now? I might have been in there drinking at literally this very moment.
>>287146854>tattoos saved for last>le shima faceIt's perfect. Very Roppongi. They used to sell speed on the street till like 2008. The town is cleaned the fuck up now and it's so boring and dead. It's like a reverse-aesthetic cyberpunk. The zaibatsu controls everything and it's all pristine and sterile and lifeless.
We are SO back>>287146455Tommy Dorsey and Frank Sinatra- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9BwHqNVzJ0>>287146676and that's how they find out they're actually Jesus' brother>>287146875Not the paint thinner. Anything but the paint thinner.

>>287154184I never said I minded, chapters with that theme are pretty funny actually. The main problem people have with boomer complaints isn't that they're necessarily wrong, but that they can't understand that younger people are dealing with a very different situation than they were growing up and that they had a hand in creating today's problems.
bump for anons to notice we're back
>>287155120>when Xi is gonna shut them down in 15 yearsWhat's their status now?
>>287150300Shima is only getting older.
>>287146730>we're letting kids use 3 instead of Pi>Japan as fallenit's really funny when you know that physicist in higher education always approximate Pi to 10

>>287154386So like Vegas after the CEOs took over from the mobsters?
>>287166158But why? Seems like a much larger jump to make calculation-wise
Chapter 67Kind of funny given the previous chapter that the title of this one is a hip-hop song. Maybe even the first one in the series I think.
>>287146451LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO>>287169641yo OP, how you doing? dumping anything else currently?

>>287169921Great comedic paneling.
>>287169826When did Shima get good at computers
>>287169921What if he's getting pronked and OP got the "timing" right for the dump

This artstyle really reminds me of older Urasawa Naoki at times
>>287162061It's still officially illegal for private tutoring companies to teach core curriculum subjects such as math and English, but it's legal to teach "non-core curriculum subjects. So, you have private tutoring companies trying to skirt the regulations in creative ways:>Prvate tutoring operators, while diminished, continued to exist in various forms, often redesigning courses to skirt restrictions or advertising them under code words. >Mathematics-related courses, for example, are commonly marketed as "logical thinking".>Lisa ran an English tutoring school in the eastern province of Zhejiang that shifted its curriculum to comply with rules that prohibit the teaching of core subjects such as mathematics and English.>Lisa, who declined to give her full name for fear of official retribution, said she laid off 60% of her staff following the crackdown.>But the school maintained classes by pivoting to teaching science-related courses in English, without calling them English classes.https://www.reuters.com/world/china/chinas-private-tutoring-firms-emerge-shadows-after-crackdown-2024-10-28/Parents who are rich enough also started doing the following:>One-on-one tutoring, meanwhile, flourished as parents who could afford the higher prices hired tutors to come to their homes.
>>287146875It's been interesting watching Hirokane go from generally being optimistic about the future of the Japanese economy to "we're completely fucked" once China came into the picture.
>>287169921Whatever Shima's getting paid, it's not enough. How many times has he faced near death at this point?
>>287173421Well at this point they're at the point where the Lost Decade is becoming plural while Japan's main historical enemy is rising and nothing the Japanese business and political leaders do seems to fix it so yeah it's not hard to see why he'd start feeling that way.
>>287173359What a weird thing for the state to crack down on.
>>287175581If they're core subjects that every student has to learn then the state wants control of it because it means they control how it's taught. Especially if they're an authoritarian state.

>>287169921This is not what I expected, but I'm welcoming this development.
>>287169921damn, what the fuck wwww. thanks.
>>287169680I'd not go on a boat my fellow elites invite me to
>>287175581Xi basically did it for the same reasons discussed> >>287146676 here. Xi thinks that one of the reasons why China's birth rates have fallen is that by forcing kids to do endless after-school tutoring, you're left with a whole generation of socially inept people who are under too much pressure to meet someone of the opposite sex, get married, and have kids. And as they discuss here >>287146615 China's elite are those who excel at tests. Which means that the elite test takers were rich kids whose parents had the means to send them to a top-tier cram school or hire a private tutor. So in a sense, banning after-school tutoring on test subjects helps level the playing field so that the poor kid whose parents can't afford cram school or a tutor is no longer at a disadvantage compared to the rich kid.
>>287177603so while abe was all talk (and corrupted as fuck by some shady scammy cult) xi managed to do something to ease the east asian autism.
