Director wanted to preserve the subtlety: negative emotions shown in a measured way, without exaggerating the tearfulness.Obj: for the animation not to steal attention from the voice and music; preferring economy and rhythm over constant and flashy movement.Careful consideration of "what to move and what not to move": to keep the focus on the acting and music. Avoid excessive flashy "sakuga"; prioritize variation in rhythm and pauses to avoid tiring the viewer. The dreamlike scenes were introduced carefully and gradually so they would not feel abrupt in moving images; their frequency and timing were adjusted. Character design and animation direction Kenji Hayama was chosen because he connected with the work and is very strong in expressions and acting; he made corrections to faces and gestures that enriched the scenes. There were no rigid instructions to the designer due to his ability to capture the tone; his corrections helped nuance the expressions.Realism in everyday details Great attention to realism in cooking scenes: real objects were studied to reproduce correct colors, shine, and textures.Color adjustments were made so the food "looks good" without being too vibrant; real food sound effects were also used.Music and sound as part of the visual editing Piano music, deliberately light and sparse, to accompany without overpowering voices or images. Coordination between direction, composer, and sound director to maintain a soundscape that supports the visual subtlety. Work with voice actors and their relationship with animationVery nuanced voice direction: Sawashiro was asked to nuance emotions so Makio would be less "expressive" and more ambiguous; these nuances influence how scenes are animated.Peculiarities of the original required timing adjustments in script and animation so the sound acting fit visually. The vocal presence changed perceptions of characters once placed in image and sound.Adaptation techniqueSome original manga scenes were reordered or..
We have to thank the director, in part, for getting an anime adaptation.>— Why did you think to adapt this work into an anime?>In part because I’ve been asked: “Is there any work you like?”, and also because, since I don’t think there are many anime adaptations of works with this sort of expressions, it felt a bit challenging. I wanted to test out if it was possible to translate it into moving pictures while also maintaining its atmosphere intact.Apparently they started working on this while the manga was serialized?>— What kind of conversations did you have with Kiyasu-san when discussing the script?>At the time, the original hadn’t concluded yet, so at first I told him I wanted to start with adapting Volumes 1 to 7 into a 1 cour anime.
>>287152532He cute
>>287152532It was a good adaptation. I'll admit that they did 'clean up' the manga stylistically a bit, took some of the edge off. But they did keep it to a tasteful degree while making the style easier to roll with for mainstream audiences. In some ways they enhanced the emotional pathos for it. The expression work and the sense of realism was definitely kept around and the VA work to sell it was stellar. Some of the best faces in recent anime memory. It was led by a guy that actually liked the original work, which is really all you could ever hope for. My one criticism about what was cut, was the director leaving out Emiri's conversation with Asa where she comes out as a lesbian to her. That was a major moment in dealing with those two characters starting to grow apart over differences before coming back together as friends again. I felt that losing that resolution was not a good thing regarding their relationship together.

>>287160012I wouldn't call those types filtered as much as intentionally looking for a reason to bitch about a story that is 90% women talking to one another, and jumping on whatever worked.
>>287152876I guess that answers the question why the anime didn't adapt the full story.
