How will OUR HERO Himuro fare against Wakatsuki in today's exciting chapter of Kengan Omega?

BTW, today's chapter release coincides with April Fools' Day. Want to hear a joke? Kengan Omega! LOL!

I expect at least a mostly off-screen fight with Himuro jobbing after an unfathomably high level exchange of compliments, preceded or proceeded by a wonderful and lengthy revision of rules, of course. We will be eating good today... Oh, yes... I can already taste "it"
>>

I wonder if Sandro actually even bothers to read the finished pages. And if he does, does he even bother to criticize Daro for these leftover AI hands or does he just not give a fuck at all?

I think that Sandro at best just glances at them. He might be at the same level as Daro. If the editor doesn't care, then he doesn't care, unless it's something that would make a kenganavenger look bad or "not cool enough". The editor certainly doesn't seem to give a fuck either

We're getting a full fight that makes both Waka and Himuro look bad

I'm expecting Himuro to scheme around a blast core that never happens just to get obliterated by jabs

What kind of completely useless, time-wasting filler match-up that makes everyone involved look worse do you want to see next? Personally, I think we're due to Hong vs Kuroki.
>>
Logically one of them should just go "lol nvm" and team up. There is no actual reason for two Kengan fighters to seriously throwdown at this point.
Raian and Akoya are loose cannon retards so you can't reason with them, but any of the sane fighters should recognize there's no point taking each other out at this point in the game.

April Fools Chapter, Waka Wins.
>>
>>287161669
Shen is Sandro's self-insert so his weakness is the lack of creativity. Getting huisheng'd as a child gave him all the knowledge he was supposed to ever need so he never had to work his brain to figure out a solution to a problem he hadn't yet solved. Despite all the "scaling the wall" that Ohma has been doing, he will still be a weaker fighter than Shen but manage to win by pulling some weird trick that Shen's martial arts memories didn't anticipate.
Being bad at fishing is a hint at Shen inability to learn new things that the original sage who started using huisheng to pass down his memories didn't already know

Carlos Medel having used wikihow to learn Capoeira. That's the exact moment I knew that the story was firmly going downhill. This was the first of many mirror matches within KvP and it showed just how creatively bankrupt the story was becoming because look at Carlos' opponent. A Muay Thai practitioner who turned boxer to shore up what he considered a weakness of his own martial arts. While we never get any concept to how Gaolang faired in his early career, we got flashes of how things had become in his fight with Kaneda where Gaolang talks about defeating three heavyweight title holders in various fashion. It reinforced his skill as a boxer but the real heavy lifting always came from how he actually was just good at it. He earned his moniker of "the acme of striking" in his fight with Agito

Carlos is a mess of a character because he's literally a reflection of Gaolang, except he started punch centric and incorporated kicking in later. But he's not a better boxer (and he was supposed to be) and his capoeira didn't amount to much but him hurting himself. Gaolang is just objectively a better boxer and it's kind of laughable that Carlos thought he would fight better by dropping weiggt and it really calls into question why he's even a big deal in Purgatory.

The final nail on the coffin was Gaolang's "powerup" for Omega which is just a somewhat more durable right fist. God Fist is the first of many dumb upgrades which just showed that Sandro can't take characters higher than Asura. The KvP tournament should really have been filled with losers from the KAT, like Rihito, who have actual room to grow within reason. Small wonder that Falcon v Rihito is one of the only good fights in the whole tournament.

We also got the greatest line for the entire tournament. Better than Rolon moved, better than you were awesome, better than you got it all wrong. What a way to deflate any confidence people might have had in Purgatory when their first fighter has to win on a technicality after getting his face caved in.

>The KvP tournament should really have been filled with losers from the KAT,
Yet another reason why beinging back Ohma was the single worst decision ever to be made in the history of this series. Everyone and everything had to "scale" to Ohma and literally everyone and everything lost it's charm. Insane how you can accurately pinpoint the exact microsecond where everything turned into shit.
>>
>>287186849
Yeah this was really stupid. Medel should've been a pure boxer that outclasses Gaolang in boxing to the point that Gaolang is forced to bring out his muay thai just to get an edge over him.

>Everyone and everything had to "scale" to Ohma
I wouldn't frame it like this. Ohma is a symptom of the problem but not the cause. The problem is that it's very difficult to improve the fighting styles of certain Asura characters who were already basically at the top of their game. And the way Sandro chose to do so is laughable. Gaolang needed to be given an interesting counter match because realistically, nobody should be on his level of striking prowess. Or his fight needed to be handled the same way Gensai vs Agito was, two experts who cannot afford to make mistakes and it becomes an intense battle of reading ahead and trying to setup a win condition (Critical hit devil's lance or Dragon shot). The latter option only works when we at least get told what the other guy can do to end a fight quickly. Like how Saw's hammer of burma got introduced at the start of his fight with Rei. Medel would need an iconic finisher we learn about before or during the fight since he only gets the one.

Agito and Okubo also got hit with this hard. The former just did what they already were doing in Asura by switching between formless and martial arts...but faster I guess? Okubo much later in the story has his Golden 8 Seconds which is just him using a punch combo, which is totally against his core gimmick of switching up attack/defense maneuvers on the fly.

The only good powerup was Julius' God Killer because A) he was a KAT loser with an obvious problem to overcome. and B) it is a logical powerup that works with his established skillset. I get that the guy who doesn't want to use techniques would develop something similar to Blast core but uniquely keyed to his own specialty. If Toa Mudo had been written a bit more interestingly and the fight didn't end with essentially a one-shot after the reveal. I think that match would easily be the best in KvP. It's still towards the top and it's probably the only good Mirror fights.

>The KvP tournament should really have been filled with losers from the KAT, like Rihito, who have actual room to grow within reason. Small wonder that Falcon v Rihito is one of the only good fights in the whole tournament.
Agreed. I'd add that he pre-chapter 50 fights in Omega are so good precisely because it's filled with fights from weaker fighters who have room to grow. Pic related is way better than just about any fight we've had in the past 100+ chapters because it was purely designed to show how much Koga has "grown within reason" as a fighter. And this growth feels FAR more rewarding and deserved than the """"growth"""" he showed when he bullied Xia Ji and Yumi.
The fight between Ryuki and Akoya similarly was less a fight about power levels and techniques and all that, and more of a way to show Ryuki's inner turmoil and how Koga has changed him.
As another example, take Kokuro. He's pretty much the best supporting character for Koga similarly because he helped Koga "grow within reason"

>And this growth feels FAR more rewarding and deserved than the """"growth"""" he showed when he bullied Xia Ji and Yumi.
Part of that, and part of why Asura worked is because there was actual time put into these developments. Koga is training and once he got past the initial hurdle and started up with his Uncle, the concept of a finisher move came up. The story already planted that seed with Kokuro's Stinger. Then Yumi bullies Koga and it awakens a realization leading to the Brazilian kick against Orca along with just how Koga is doing better as a fighter overall. The same is true with your Ryuki/Akoya example. Ryuki's inner turmoil was part of his development and whether he fought to kill would make or break his friendship with Koga and he ultimately chose the right path. Unsurprisingly I also like Akoya's fight with Nicolas because it's interesting to see two absolute psychos slowly unwind on each other. And Sahate is a solid counter ability for Akoya's defensive and reaction time based style.

The Kenichi arc for Koga was really the best writing the series had across the board. All the elements were working well together and stuff like Rihito vs Mokichi was a respectful fight instead of the messy shit we've gotten afterwards.

I also think there was a mistake made earlier than chapter 50 in hindsight. Probably another example of the editor difference between the series but I think that Kokuro being the strongest member of the "new generation" was a mistake. KvP would benefit from having at least one of those fighters in the bracket. Instead Kokuro and the Pankrator dude just got fed to Ryuki. I think Nitoku could have fit the bill with a minor re-write to his backstory. Instead of being a fighter that went blow for blow with Agito, have him be a lesser known New Generation because he's still a flaky fighter whose only put in a couple matches over the years, but each one is a resounding victory before he fucks off back to writing books.
>>
>>287186849
The Medel and Gaolang fight is the canary in the mine of the series. In Ashura Sandro wasn't afraid to let his characters get dirty and duke it out brutally, showing every hit, every blood splatter and breaking of bones, and the struggle in the fight from both sides. But something happened (probably the netflix deal) where now he realizes he does have something to lose so now he 'protects' them and the kengan cast barely lose now and mainly to each other. If a character gets beat up like Raian or recently Liu it's done off screen. Sandro went from 'I have nothing to lose!' to 'oh no I have something to lose!' and it nosedived his writing
>>
>>287187279
The worst thing about God Killer is that Sandro just started immediately treating it as a Removal/Advance-like transformation instead of a precision tool.

Man, I'm rereading Gaolang vs Carlos and I genuinely love it. I don't know if years of dog shit has just lowered the bar severely or what but it's actually a really fun fight. I'm pretty sure I liked it when it first came out too. Carlos shit talked so much saying stuff like "I'm faster than light" or "My strikes can even kill a god" and all that.
It also had multiple "Is he Kuroki tier??" shit too, which is hilarious looking back. And a fun instance of "He was too strong".

>I wouldn't frame it like this. Ohma is a symptom of the problem but not the cause
Of course. It's just easier to say "Ohma came back" than "Sandro decided to make Ohma come back" really.
And another problem is that for whatever reason Sandro REALLY got his mind stuck on certain favourites. I don't know if he was just really holding himself back for the first 50 chapters or what but the rampant favouritism for certain characters is just downright comical at times. Like this >>287187753 anon says, at some point Sandro got afraid of showing his favourites lose outright. 90% of the time there had to be a catch of some sort of an unfairness somehow.

Oh yeah, it's undeniably silly. But still good imo. Also the heavy hitter actually looked like they were hitting with some fucking weight behind their attacks, which is so incredibly refreshing to see. Nowadays every character looks like they're being tickled with feathers but masked with a 3 billion speed lines on the page. Case in point, Waka tackling Himuro and Himuro just daintly oopsy-daisy-ly falling over instead of joining the Artemis crew on the moon.

The fight is not without good moments or at least stuff to enjoy. It's just not a good fight for Gaolang and set a bad precedent for Purgatory as a whole when prior to this, their only bad fight was from an imposter and the hype was still there that people like Jose were big hitters strong enough to take on former Fangs like Yumi. Again, back when people might have respected Yumigahara before his humiliation ritual.

I don't think that's a cynical enough way to look at things, and the sentiment that Sandro gives enough of a fuck to pick and choose favourites is common but naive
Sandro is simply treating the old characters better because they're far more likely to have fans, and actively placating his readership by having the characters with the most fans win or only lose by technicality is part of the business
It's very similar to wrestling, which Sandro is on record to like a lot

Sandro is actually kind of bad at selling his Fighters to the reader. Kokuro might have started out of a side character for Koga's growth but both him and Yurikawa were always meant to get fed to Ryuki. It's why Kokuro is "The Strongest" and not just an a guy who's making waves in the Kengan scene.
Sandro does the same thing with Nitoku, he needs to sell that Nitoku isn't some flaky doofus so he turns the guy into one of the few fighters who didn't quit after Agito spanked them. If anything Nitoku's backstory as a Fighter is somewhat a mixture of Waka and Hatsumi, he has Waka's backstory as a guy who fought the greatest and still kept fighting but he's also got Hatsumi's flaky nature

The funny thing is Koga's growth isn't even "without reason" it's just very rarely on screen. Like he hasn't even grown fast enough to become relevant to the top tiers yet. Koga is not some mary sue who explodes in power.

The issue is that Koga didn't struggle at all against Xia Ji or Yumi so it just felt stupid, they weren't hard won fights so it just felt like Koga glaze. even though his power has been far more earned than say, Cosmo leaping through tiers in a week or Ohma flashback poweruping his way to the top of the tournament in the KAT.

And this misses what made original Koga appealing was that he always took a beating and kept going which is what made him appealing, he would be super cocky, jump into a situation, not be able to handle it and then STAY THERE for two chapters and improve. Like with Seki's training, he was completely out of his depth but just stayed there and kept grinding until he earned Seki's respect. Or how he did 100 matches of the footwork game against Ryuki and lost 99 and managed to win once.

Even in that Orca fight (which I agree is one of the best in the series) it wasn't that he was a reasonable opponent for Koga it was that Koga actually struggled a lot and barely beat him. But then Koga sort of got his arrogance beat out of him but as a result he stopped leaping into situations and getting his ass kicked and started fighting people he could beat and it made him less interesting.

The best single fight in Omega is the Koga/Ryuki fight and it's got a lot of reasons why it's good and one of them is that Koga gets absolutely hammered for most of it and breaks both hands and still wins. But the author doesn't write strong villains any more, if he ever did. And he refuses to match Koga up against an Ashura vet where he'd be forced to give them good moments, so the result is that Koga's fights went downhill badly.

>The issue is that Koga didn't struggle at all against Xia Ji or Yumi so it just felt stupid
I agree with this. Once he lost his MC position the writing doesn't know what to do with Koga at all. So he just rapidly grows stronger off-screen so he can be where the story wants with him despite it not being earned. His Kenichi arc is the best part of the story and I kind of wish that Kengan kept him as a focus and only occasionally used other fighters to handle issues Koga or Ryuki weren't capable of handling. But it's not like the story knew where it wanted to go with the worm plotline either since it turned into a retarded MGS story about clones and memory implants.

>The best single fight in Omega is the Koga/Ryuki fight
I understand where you are coming from but I can't fully agree on this one only because the execution and some stuff going into it will never sit well with me. I will never accept that Koga is learning Ohma's full niko style as I think it's a bit too on the nose for a "protagonist power" on top of Koga having the Fist eye. And since both fighters can use it the idea of indestructible becomes a sort of video game stat check that lets them tank damage they probably shouldn't be able too purely for plot reasons. Which was also the worst part of Wakatsuki vs Ohma back in Asura. I can't completely say that Koga using the niko style is a bad thing, his fight with Leonardo had a novel usage of iron ringer. And it does fit his concept of absorbing moves from his various teachers as well as juxtaposing Ryuki having learned the Koei style from Ohma's rival so it's a mixed bag approach.

But I will grant you that the finisher for the fight is pure, undistilled, brilliance. If there was ever a way for Koga to knock some sense into murder Ryuki, it was that.

>there are ashura daily threads, which both provide another place to discuss kengan AND offer the extra demoralization factor of reminding us what we used to have
I genuinely don't think we've been lower than this before, people claimed the Real Timer's Tournament or Five Fights at Ohma's was the nadir, but we weren't this listless even back then.

This arc just sucks fundamentally. There's too many fucking POVs for a battle royale. The pacing is glacial (except that one time it wasn't, why was Realcolas trashed almost immediately). The matchups are complete nonsense too. Who ever wondered how a fight between Wakatsuki and Himuro would go down? The Monke Worm dude looks more like a proper opponent for Waka.

>battle royale arc
>but it's actually a succession of meaningless 1v1s between characters who are narratively running on fumes, where the outcome doesn't actually matter and aren't fights as much as they are Pokémon battles
>villains are hilariously outmatched and explode the second they have to do something onscreen so the only thing that actually happens are increasingly stupider fights between protagonists
We have been on this for 6 months and I don't think actually anything happened. The worst part is due to Sandro's masterful pacing, we could be reading Ohma vs Shen in 3 months, or reading Kaneda vs Carlos in 2 years and there would be functionally no difference either way. A complete and utter destruction of the senses.

This arc could genuinely be stretched over a decade.
If you add commentators to every fight and stuff half of the chapter with exposition and reaction faces, you could easily turn a three chapter battle into a seven chapter slog (plus an eighth for the immediate aftermath).
After that, have a "cooldown" period that can be stretched to five chapters about other people reacting to the news of the fight, and then another two chapters about possible rule changes.
Every ten chapters, include a recap of the rules.
Just like that, you've wasted three and a half months on a single fight.
Repeat endlessly until you've made it through literally every bit character.

>The only good powerup was Julius' God Killer
I have to express the exact opposite opinion.
Julius is the EASIEST Asura-originating character to give a power-up to. Literally just make him bigger and stronger.
He represented a purity that is only diluted by Gott-Toter, which only made him feel like a knock-off Wakatsuki. What made the match-up between Julius and Waka interesting is that they're opposite approaches to the idea of overwhelming strength, in a sense.
Gott-Toter is a genuine moral defeat and a concession that feels uncharacteristic to Julius's dedication to stregth.
>>
>>287209476
Yeah the Julius buff is a real concession of how reliant on named techniques kengan has become

>So he just rapidly grows stronger off-screen so he can be where the story wants with him despite it not being earned.
His power growth is not rapid that's the thing that baffles me, he's been training like a madman for years and is described as having tons of potential it's actually entirely reasonable for him to beat Xia Ji and then Yumi the issue is that since he hasn't gotten focus we don't see the training on screen. Koga's development has actually been slow rolled, he'd still lose against the Ohma from the Raian fight.

While I was actually very unhappy at Koga becoming yet another Niko style user the fact that he only knows a couple moves and not well is part of the tension here, for instance he actually breaks his hands because of that and it's one of the things that raises the tension. And indestructible is less relevant here than it normally is, I don't think there's a single instance of it being as bad as the Wakatsuki fight where Ohma openly says it's barely doing anything and yet it keeps him going the whole fight
>>
>>287187279
Some good points here but I'd say Ohma is more than a symptom, the issue is that at the start of Omega the Kengan Association is in disarray so we're told they only have access to a couple of heavy hitters, Wakatsuki, Gaolang and Okubo (and this was back when Okubo was a heavy hitter and not a complete joke) and wouldn't have total freedom in how they could pick. And a lot of the KAT guys were guys they brought as one-offs so it would make sense for the power level to get ratcheted down. Then they found Agito fairly early and of course Metsudo has a new fang, so that's two more. But you still have loads out of action like Kuroki, Julius, Hatsumi, Raian, Rei, and of course no Ohma.

But the issue is instead of these guys coming back slowly if at all, letting the new cast breathe, they all get dumped back into the mix along with Ohma immediately. So the WORM having the upper hand with talent is gone, let alone Purgatory, they bring only two new cast members to the tournament (Ryuki and Nitoku, Hayami I guess but he's a Niko clone). The power level begins skyrocketing.
>>
>>287208376
There is really nothing more to add. A dump thread will die out in less than 100 posts which will consist of people egurgitating the same talking points as always.

One thing about Koga that annoys me is how real the meme "everybody loves Koga' is. Koga's trained with nearly everybody, it's actually easier to name the people Koga hasn't trained with. Off my head Koga's trained with:
Seki and crew
Agito and Lolong
Ohma
Kure clan
Gaoh Mukaku
Liu and Medel
Cosmo and Adam
Shen

And it's not like Koga begged them or there was extrenuating circumstances, Koga just rolled up to each one and said "bro train me" and everyone said "sure I got nothing better to do then waste my time on a scrub". It just reads as bad fanfiction

>>
>>287213699
I feel like that's almost entirely down to the fact that so much of Koga's progrrssion is straight up off-screen. We never really get to see him interact properly, in a meaningful manner, with some of these characters. We know they're all aware of each other because they're part of the same group/hang around in similar circles, but we don't really see any of it.
>>
>>287213699
Worst of all is that even with all this baggage Koga is barely relevant.
He and Ryuki are like Hassad and Medicine man with the way the story just cuts to them for a brief moment from time to time to take a break from the actual plot not that there's much of a plot going on

>Gott-Toter is a genuine moral defeat and a concession that feels uncharacteristic to Julius's dedication to stregth.
I don't see how this is the case. It's not like Blast core is a technique under these definitions since it's just flexing really hard and releasing that energy. Julius crafting his own version was fair game. Just making him bigger doesn't solve his problem anymore than Waka dedicating more time to Karate would have helped him in a rematch with Agito as per his backstory in Asura. That's why he developed the core as well as learned grappling. Fighters need new tools to improve and someone like Julius has limited options for what he can incorporate since he's taking martial arts off the table. As another anon pointed out though, the followup for Gott-totter is a problem but in the Toa fight it felt like the right direction for Julius to be moving in.

>>287210691
>And indestructible is less relevant here than it normally is
It's why Koga could even tank some R. Palms and was featured heavily in their fight. Koga only broke both his hands because of Gao's ironclad and they both took way more damage than I think is reasonable because they kept tightening up at just the right moments.

>Blast core[...] just flexing really hard and releasing that energy
Adamantine Kata is just flexing really hard.
Possessing Spirit is just making your heart beat really fast.
Removal is just hysterical strength.
I absolutely do think of Blast Core as a technique, but that's besides my main point, which is this: I would not want to see Julius develop his own version of Possessing Spirit or Removal, for the same reasons I do not want to see him develop his own version of Blast Core, and for the same reasons why I believe God Glow fails as a power-up for Gaolang. They're basically dipping into the gimmicks of other characters, and risking turning themselves into just ersatzs of Wakatsuki and Saw Paing respectively.
Julius and Gaolang, especially, are hurt by this, because their whole point is that they are just really good at the "fundamentals", so to speak.
Okubo's Golden Eight Seconds also fails for this reason, even though it technically doesn't dip into anybody else's gimmicks. It clashes with his main thing of just being a really good MMA guy. That's what I take umbrage with.

>They're basically dipping into the gimmicks of other characters,
Julius is already a strongman obsessed with muscles and pure strength. I just feel that
>hit them really, really, haymaker hard

Is about the only thing he could gain beyond just fighting smarter. The demonstrated defensive aspect of Gott-totter by applying rotation is also in line with Julius having arguably the highest physical resilience in the cast. Which made it unique compared to blast core along with not needing a windup or sacrificing his striking range. It's not stealing a gimmick poorly like Gaolang, it's honestly an improvement that could only happen from someone like Julius who has a phD in body science. I will defend the move but I get your position. If he dipped into other gimmicks or it didn't have just the right logic behind it. I would not feel the same way.

Also this whole talking point reminded me of another failed power up. Kaneda and his spider web was clearly inspired by Gaolang locking Agito out of options back in the KAT. But it's just unbelievable that Kaneda of all people has the physique or reflexes to manage that.
