"If the animation stands out too much, it can distract from the story, so I avoided going overboard, but I made sure to be meticulous. It's not a work that relies on flashy animation, after all.""Of course, it's better to have high quality, but when there's too much movement, your eyes get pulled to that. Even in scenes where I want people to focus on the actors' performances or the music, if the visuals move excessively, attention shifts there instead. That might be what people call sakuga (amazing animation), but sometimes that's not what I'm trying to convey. Deciding where to move things and where not to is something I've been conscious of ever since the storyboard stage."
>>287158940Goog questionIMO they should follow the example of the best ones created so far
>>287158940Wow, almost like choosing the right tool for the job is a thing.
>>287158940No, we need MORE sakuga I’m everything. They need to animate those scenes in romance anime where the boy/girl runs to the love interest to confess like a shounen battle anime with 720 camera rotations and speed lines.
>>287158940Based, only the biggest normalfaggots care about animation anyways.
>>287158940This is a perfectly reasonable take though?
>>287159615Imagining a confession scene with cubes flying everywhere got me laughing.
This should be common sense, and it's a shame that it seemingly isn't anymore.
The difference between cartoons and anime is that cartoons animate every little movement while anime utilizes pans and mouth flaps on a static background to the maximum extent
>>287158940good take
>>287158940R/anime would disagree. Post it there and see what they thinks
Sakuga is what makes anime special.
>>287159793Been done
>>287159988Depends on the cartoon. There's a lot that are just static animation and talking heads, just like anime
>>287158940since when did sakuga become equated with flashy drawings or cubes mainly associated with shonentrash
Sakuga used to impress me a lot, but now when I see it it's just overdone trash. Its just visual noise, you need to have animation legible for people to understand whats going on.>>287160323Ever since COVID Hoodweebs started to watch anime, so 2020-2022ish
Sakuga used to actually look cool. Now it's just skating and frequent cuts
>>287160323Since the creation of twitter.
>>287160323I think they call it webgen animatorsThey're only concerned about showing off and not thinking of the big picture.
>>287160404Speaking of visual noise, I rewatched a few old anime recently and it's incredible how the modern animu directors lost the art of letting the scene breathe. No matter what is happening in the scene, the camera has to spin, zoom, cut to a different angle or character etc. every few seconds, because god forbid we let the audience focus on the actual dialogue and framing.
>>287159988
>>287158940This feels like bait or a misunderstanding of what sakuga isPic related is pure Sakuga. Clannad is full of Sakuga, basically all KyoAni is... https://www.sakugabooru.com/post?page=1&tags=clannad
>>287161556Bro, where's the cubes? Where's the slow-mo and the impact frames? Where's the characters turning into light beams, where's the speed lines and spinning cameras? Nobody even gets punched through a dozen walls in this animation. Do you even know what Sawkooguh means bro?
>>287161556You don't need to have the character constantly moving and fidgeting, it just looks weird
>>287159757maybe. i agreed with them at first but then again shouldn't animation keep better and better as time goes on? making everyone chase the "sakuga" standard will expose lazy and cheap production at the bottom
>>287159988>The difference between cartoons and anime is that cartoons animate every little movementHave you ever heard about hanna-barbera? Or do you only recognise old, big budget Disney movies?
>>287161252>twitter*tiktok
>>287162155>You don't need to have the character constantly moving and fidgeting, it just looks weirdTell that to real people
>>287162466I frequently do. They usually try to punch me, but their weak, fidgety fists slide right off my majestic, stationary jaw.
>>287162645You tell real people to stop moving!?
>>287162155not haruhi though, she needs to be moving every second
>>287158940Was this anime good?
>>287162869yesh
>>287160323Personally I blame the booru
>>287162869no, it's femcel slop
>>287162888Thank you, anon. I'll probably watch it, then.
While good directing and layouts arguably matter most in creating effective visual presentation, good character animation is also an important component of storytelling. Good animation doesn't have to be flashy.
Sounds like cope from a shit animator. Anime should have good animation
>>287162978god bless shaft
>>287162912That isn't necessarily bad.
>>287158940Sakuga faggots in shambles
>>287159719>t. seiyuufagging simp
>>287161556What the director is saying is animation like that might distract from what the scene is trying to convey.
>>287161326That's not just anime, that's filmmaking in general. Find me a western production that doesn't cut to a different view every few seconds and just leaves the camera as is, maybe with some light panning. Or better yet, one without constant background music, where the music is only played to emphasize an important moment. The modern viewer has to be constantly overstimulized, otherwise they'd notice what they're watching is essentially shite.
>>287158940That's just common sense, but we don't live in sensible times.
>>287158940Why is /a/ high-IQ when it comes to discussing character motivations and plotholes and whether or not something is NTR, and completely retarded when it comes to discussing animation and visuals?
>>287162869It has some amazing and very real moments about dealing with loss in Asa's case and dealing with severe autism in Makio's.The later part of the anime is less good with some moments in the last couple episodes ruining the threads.
>>287162869very good, my favourite for the season, only downside for me is how abruptly it ends, I feel like it could have easily been a 24 episode showunusually for anime, a pretty realistic portrayal of human behaviour, everyday small dramas and encounters, voice actors did great as well, overall a solid 9 out of 10
>>287159757HF spoilers btw (in that webm)But yeah Ufotable is fucking ASS.
>>287158940This is true in the age of excessive impact frames and cubes, but I don't think it really applies to every genre. Most of the time sakuga doesn't stand out so much in non-action focused genres, but can be used to great effect.
>>287162978Looks edgy.
>>287158940Someone tell this to the Frieren team.
>>287158940That is why nobody is talking about fart with witch and everyone is talking about Jujutsu Kaisen
>>287158940Did a slice of life series need this kind of animation? No, but it did serve its purpose, and it does look much better than then your typical slideshow
>>287166316Not beating the retarded 14 year old allegations there.

>>287162908Sakugabooru is the most hated place in /a/ for a reason.
>>287167493And what is that reason
>>287162954This is just rotoscopy. I don't consider that shit as animation.
>>287167618Forgot to add, that kind of shit between two cuts literally takes you AWAY from the scene. It moves in a realistic manner yet "choppy" way because of the framerate. Not to mention the completely different focal lens because the reference was filmed.
>>287158940SOURCE PLEASE
>>287167618good thing your retarded opinion doesn't matter.

>>287163523Oddly enough, buttflix OP S2 has several instances of mindful restraint, even when cgi creatures are fighting. They also seem to be gradually working in Nami's canon growth spurt, which is nice.
>>287161556I thinki the scene where Kyon gets stabbed at the end and everything is slow motion looked too fluidly animated, like it was doing 120fps for 8 seconds they should have cut back a little

>>287168127 You mean you don’t like reading 5 paragraphs about “intentional temporal dissonance” when it’s just a dude keyframing on 3s? Sakugabooru mfs will call it “expressive reduction of motion” instead of just saying the animator was on a deadline.
