Just to prepare you, for the next few paragraphs I am going to give this series the most wonderful and sloppy, typed oral sex I can possibly bestow through a written review such as this. As with a few other shows I've reviewed in the past, Haruhi is best if you go into it blind without any knowledge of what is to come. Just know ahead of time that I give this 14 episode series a 14 out of 14 Rings of Power. It is as close to perfection as any comedy I've ever seen has ever come close to attaining. Expected this thread to be much bigger already but oh well, there's been a lot of Haruhi threads lately and you can only have the same amount of talking points.Regardless, I fucking love Haruhi. It's been my #1 since I was fifteen, which was also my genesis as an otaku. Haruhi and Yuki are big comfort characters for me, and Haruhi's adorable beaming face has definitely helped psych me up for shit that was really hard to confront with a straight face. Even now, my car looks like it's totalled and fittingly I got it around the time of the light novel's 20th anniversary. Loved that thing way too much for how little I had it, but life goes on and Haruhi most certainly will. Season 3 I don't ever think will get made nor do I really want it to as things are now, but art is forever and what Haruhi's given me has not only already been given to countless across the world, but will continue to be. Remains to be seen what'll remain in another twenty years after what's been lost of over the past twenty, but Haruhi herself is immortal.

Haruhi has given me a lot. Gave me courage and comfort when I left home and always pushed me to go out of my comfort zone. You could say Haruhi embodies some kind of primal strength, a thirst for more, an escape from a deterministic "computable" reality. Even Haruhi herself has to live within those confines and rules, and she accepts them, but she still raises her own brand of chaos and discovery within those constraints. Choosing to be a little less reasonable, a little bolder, less afraid... That's what Haruhi really means to me, and why I think it has such a strong staying power within the people who it clicked with.

You need solid budget, you need a studio with a good understanding of what Haruhi is (like KyoAni did back then, if you read about it they really went above and beyond, hopefully it should be them again). Then you just adapt the novels with a good understanding of what makes them click, use the right visual cues, leave the best parts. Maybe you can alter some parts (for instance I'd like Snowy Mountain Syndrome to have a more fleshed out climax, other than that it was a great story). Maybe you can make a gimmick like the broadcast order, that could be nice, but you don't have to.Tldr: you can't release a time machine to 2006 but you can do something solid with proper care and there are tons of interesting possibilities.

Its something I remember from an anon who was frustrated with how Surprise ends, with an uneasy, unresolved truce between all three sides. I said "it was better this way", but now I better see their point.The aliens and the espers oppose each other because the alien entities (DITE, the Canopy etc) manipulate data at an extraordinayr level and see humans as their playthings. The future humans, especially the older Mikuru, likely come from a timeline where humanity did not evolve further. And Itsuki's Agency represents the espers, the data manipulating humans who have these abilities thanks to Haruhi, and represent a threat to the aforementioned two. Sure, one can argue "Who cares? I wanna see Kyon and Haruhi fuck", but I think the interaction of the SOS Brigade and what each member represents is more interesting. Perhaps there might even be a future where all three sides realize that they could achieve more if they just, well, work together.I'd like to see Tanigawa write an ending like that.
