Even if Imu is not the final villain he'll still be a major big bad in the final war arc before BB takes over.Elbaf is either going to be Sabaody 2.0 where Imu shitstomps everyone and Elbaf burns to the ground forcing everyone to escape or he shitstomps everyone until a Deus Ex Shanks or Dragon drops in to save the day.

What if being near to the Florian Triangle creatures caused Luffy conquerors to awaken? those things seem like the kinda creatures that would talk using the voice of all things, even if Luffy didn't heard them it could be possible that he at least caught their signal and that helped him connect to his own haki (since his first use was in the following arc)
