And I believe stuff like parroting and overvaluing "apparently common" online opinions is a real issue in the anime fandom, especially for less popular stuff. So you end up with people already thinking this is just a chore for the film and not as interesting as gundam when getting into it something like that.

For example, the show feels quite 'high budget' compared to other shows in the period. I was speaking to a friend about it and i wasn't suprised that gundam was the one who got canceled at first if this was a predecessor to it. at 10 episodes in so far I'm already invested it more sharply than gundam. The OP, characters, and humor seem more well done. The animation as well seems more fluid.

Plus the episode where Gije goes out near the end was really good. I liked Karala and Bes's relationship. And the movie is really great. But there's several episodes that feel pretty rote in between great episodes, very Tomino.

Ideon is weird for me in that it feels like it could easily have been two cours instead of three yet there's enough development provided by the runtime it has that to remove it would be seriously detrimental. A Contact is a total failure of a compilation movie.
