The issue I'm having with these latest developments is that the entire thing will hinge on Imu kidnapping Vivi, and I don't really care about Vivi at all. I never really cared about her in Alabasta either and that's been so long ago that it feels a bit ridiculous to have her be the centerpiece of Imu's obsession. I know she's a fan favorite, but I feel Oda neglected to properly develop her through the series for her to have such an important role.

I think how Imu's powers functionally work is a better version of how both Moriah and Big Mom's dothe main difference being, when Imu swallows someone's soul, he traps their consciousness and their powers too, and can then wield those powers themself or hand them out on loan to others.The reason Imu keeps seemingly swapping between calling people who they are and acting like he's talking to their ancestor is because he's actually talking to their ancestors trapped inside him. When Imu was saying "Joyboy, Davy, for how long will you torment me?" Joyboy and Davy were laughing their asses off from within the abyss inside him.Of course, most of the souls within Imu have long since gone insane so all they can do is laugh. This is what causes the bleeding effect of everything around Imu becoming animated and laughing too in a manner resembling Big Mom's homies.
