Watching AoT for the first time, near the end of season 1. Holy shit the pacing is ass. I had no idea it was this bad. Storylines and arcs that could be told in 2, 3 episodes streched to 8 or 9. This desperately needs a fan edit like One Pace.

>>287213117Such an original take.
>>287213048What? The first 3 seasons have a pretty solid pace in my opinion. What storylines are you specifically talking about?
>>287213309The trost district and now the whole thing with the female titan (i'm up to ep22). The former especially. It just never seemed to end and goes on for like 4 or 5 episodes longer than it should have.
S1 is the best one tho
>>287213465Lord have mercy then. I'll give it a shot because I've gotten this far, but I have a suspicion that I might drop it. I've heard horror stories about s4 pacing.
>>287213048You're chronically online and garbage like tiktok has deteriorated your brain.
>>287213539Dude, a one afternoon battle for a tiny district takes up like 9 episodes. Give me a break. They were padding it and knew it.
>>287213330I guess I could kind of see the Trost district thing, but I think the pacing was okay because it was early on and still trying to drive home the struggle humans had against the Titans. It really showed what going up against Titans was like from the ground level. Like what the soldiers on the ground, on the front lines, had to deal with. It really shows just how powerless humans have been against the Titans. This one battle had massive losses. Imagine an actual war with them. Humans would stand no chance. That's kind of the point of the whole Trost arc there. I get that it might seem like it dragged, but it's actually pretty good pacing to tell the story and give the viewer the gravity of the situation mankind is in.As for the female titan arc, that one is a good payoff. That one takes 100% takes as long as it should. And without spoiling anything, the payoff is worth it.I don't know, but I suspect a lot of your misgivings about the pacing is you just want to know the answers to the mysteries. It's an understandable approach, but trust me, the pacing makes sense when you finally get to the answers you want. I know it sounds like a trope or an overused saying, but a lot of this is about the journey, not the destination. The struggles Eren et al go through to find out these mysteries is what you're supposed to be enjoying. It all pays off when [insert mystery here] is solved.
>>287213582I guess I'm just used to more episodic anime like Cowboy Bebop, in which 90% of episodes are their own little story. But it still seems weird to me that the entire season is just two events. We have a brief introduction in the beginning with the mc losing his home. Then half the season battle for Trost, the other half the attmpted capture of the female titan (for what it seems to me atm). Compare that with something like death note (which some people call paddes) that in 25 episodes is 80% finished with its whole story and so much happens. Evangelion concludes it's entire story in that time too. That's why I feel it's padded.
>>287213716I suppose I see your point when you bring something like Death Note into it. AoT just has more material. The pacing is different because the key events that happen have a lot of storytelling and universe building. Trost was more the universe building and the female Titan arc is more on the storytelling side. Sure, they could just reveal the big secret there, but to really drive home what that arc means to the characters and the ramifications of it move the story along and are felt all the way until the end of the series. You'll know what I mean when you finish the season. But back to your point of pacing: it might seem to drag on because there are more pivotal events in it than Death Note. And when they delve into these pivotal events, it takes a few episodes to really show what happens and tell the viewer exactly how the important this event is. Plus, I think a lot of it is multiple things happening at once. The Trost battle wasn't just a battle for Trost. Lots of other things were happening in the battle that will be important later. Sure, it could have been wrapped up in 2 episodes, but there were other things they were also addressing. Instead of one thing at a time storytelling, it's telling multiple stories at once, I guess is what I'm trying to say. I dunno, I suggest keep going. Some of the 'padding' might make more sense later when you watch more. Some of that type of stuff is setting other stuff up and will be addressed later.
>>287213968Thanks for the explanation anon, I'll stick with it. The pacing is basically the only issue I have with it so far. I'm done watching for today and probably won't come back to this thread as to not get spolied, but your explanation is really helpful in seeing the pace in a different light.
>>287214077>and probably won't come back to this thread as to not get spoliedGood call. I almost spoiled some stuff in my last post by accident with just a reaction image I was going to use. Good thing I caught it and just found a random image of something you've already seen.>but your explanation is really helpful in seeing the pace in a different light.Glad I could help. I hope later on when you get further and hopefully finish the whole thing you'll understand what I'm trying to get at. Not sure if I explained it very well. But yeah, get the hell out of here and I hope you enjoy it. I'll keep my eyes out for your analysis thread after you'd finished.
