>>287228573The bar for sci-fi is too high compared to fantasy. While uninteresting, things like guildslop are still functionally competent vehicles for a story. Any amateur can make things happen. Sci-fi however requires "an idea". And space SF in particular requires being a naval history nerd (any period is fine) at minimum to be even mildly competent. None of these new series have much chance of being any good because anything with interesting or unique ideas is going to be too risky for what these publishers are looking for.Pity.
