My problem with it comes in the last episodes because you can tell they went with an original anime route because the last few episodes do feel like the story could have went for longer but they cut it short because there wasn't enough manga material. My main gripe is the treatment of the antagonists, as, except for Medusa and the Kishin most of them either get defeated anticlimatically or don't get a conclusion. Namely, Arachne is suddenly killed by the Kishin, her minions like the chainsaw dude and the mosquito old man don't get final battles and are unfought and so do Medusa's minions. Also, I wasn't a fan of the courage punch, not as much because of the concept itself (it made sense to combat a being who thrives with fear with bravery), but rather because Maka basically defeats the Kishin alone by herself when the whole thing behind Soul Eater and the meister/weapon bond is that both parties help each other to fight, for a show with that premise I thought it kinda betrayed the message of the story.

But this manga isn't made for newfags. It is about manga/anime tropes, (well and many other things like perception vs reality). But a big chunk of the world operates as a reference in one way or another to manga/anime tropes. FF is a series for fans of manga. The Soul Resonance, for instance is actually the power of friendship, aka the strongest power in shonen, capable of literally any feat, frequently including beating God. The brilliance of the ending is that it is yet another layer of meta that reaches out of the story and connects to the reader themselves.
