What is it that made the One Piece LA so successful? I still can't believe Netflix made it work. Could this success be replicated for another anime/manga series?
>>287237827Oda being heavily involved
>>287237827It’s good.
>>287237894Yeah, obviously. He's asking HOW. >>287237862Thank you.
>>287237862I know that, but I'm still genuinely surprised that something like One Piece could work as a LA and still take the world by storm. I wouldn't imagine something as cartoonish as One Pieve to work.
still not gonna watch it
Vivi being black, an improvement over the original
>>287237827Pretty timeskip one piece was goodTimeskip OP is shit No need to reply this is objective
>>287237827The final battle with Wapol is much weaker compared to last season battle with Arlong.
>>287237968>No need to replyWell, I'm gonna anyway, because it's killing me; how is DB the only known series that's still enjoyable post-timeskip?
I like how all the actors are beautifulNami's actress is a snack
>>287238042DB survives the timeskip curse because Toriyama designed the story around escalation and reinvention, not around a fixed premise. Most manga are built around a specific setup that collapses when the characters age. DB isn't.The entire premise of DB is:>characters train>enemies get stronger>the world expands>power ceilings keep breakingWhen the story jumps forward in time (like the 5-year skip before Z, the 3-year Android training, or the 7-year Buu gap), it actually reinforces the theme instead of disrupting it. A timeskip just means "Everyone got stronger. Let's see how." Most manga aren't built for that. The better question is how something as big as DB still haven't to this day gotten a LA as good as OP's.
>>287237862This. The One Piece fanbase has an almost cult-like worship of Oda, so you only need to namedrop him and they'll advertise the show for you.
>>287238255I think that's a broken perspective of someone who mainly thinks of Dragonball as "DBZ". I think the real reason is because the Dragonballs have a built-in year-long limit established pretty early on, so the rest of the story had to be structured around there being a year between arcs that used the series' central gimmick.
>>287238042>>287238255>>287238348One Piece has been in its post time-skip thriving with more praise than Dragon Ball Z could ever did.
>>287237862yeah, but it's a success even among not fans, i mean, a lot of people dont know who the fuck is Oda, yet is praising the LA
>>287238431shut up brownoid ESL
>>287238042Toriyama knew how to adapt. People liked Goku and Vegeta so he made it the Goku and Vegeta show and dropped all the dead weight, meanwhile Oda keeps pretending the crew is important when he only cares about Luffy and sanji
>>287237827one piece fans are used to consuming low quality slop so of course they would feel positive about the live action.
>>287237827They gave a fuck about it.That is all
>>287237968imagine...
>>287238531Toei will continue giving their sloppy seconds to you fucking filthy peasants while one piece continues eating good.
>>287238348That's a good point, and it's closer to Toriyama's structural trick than the usual "DB is about getting stronger" explanation. You're also right that a lot of people analyze DB as if the series starts at Z, which completely misses how the storytelling framework was built in early DB.I think it helps a lot that Toriyama turned the 1-year limitation into a structure. Without the cooldown the story could devolve into problem > wish > immediate next problem > wish again. But the 1-year lockout forces travel, training, tourneys and growth. It just naturally generates downtime arcs.
>>287237968crazy how the smoker actor is only 4 years older than the koby one.
>>287237827They supposedly have plans for Pokémon live action
>>287238811why did they did do nothing after detective pikachu's success? It was the only one of these live action movies/series that wasn't total slop.
> Vivi replaced by a disgusting pajeeta I didn't say anything in the previous season because they few replacements weren't super relevant but I'm not watching this shit now
>>287238928Netflix definitely picked an Indian woman to play as Vivi probably because it's cheaper and less controversial too but Arabasta is alao both based on Egypt and India according to the official databook.
>>287237862>Oda being heavily involvedThat's still dubious on how he's involved outside of being told about the episode they are gonna makeThe most he's listed as is is executive producer which is a title literally anyone in a project can have and doesn't even mean they contributed to the project other than showing up to at least one meeting
>>287238851>after detective pikachu's successLolLmao even It flopped compared to Sonic and Legendary decided to go with their Monsterverse after such low numbers
>>287239250detective pikachu generated almost as much money on it's own as the 3 combined sonic movies.
>>287239299>Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019) grossed approximately $433.3 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. It achieved a record-breaking opening weekend for a video game adaptation, earning $54-$58 million domestically and over $170 million worldwide in its opening, becoming a financial success for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures>The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has officially crossed $1 billion in global box office gross across three films. The films have shown consistent growth, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) holding the highest gross ($336.5M+), followed by Sonic 2 ($405M+) and Sonic 1 ($319M+), making it a massive successFucking where??? Because it sure as hell wasn't in this timeline
>>287238811Isn't the Detective Pikachu sequel I'm development hell, though?
>>287237827The fact that optards unironically like and celebrate this ugly disgusting slop is proof that they are subhuman degenerates and the lowest IQ fanbase of the big 3. Bleachgods and Naruchads would never.
>>287241815Bleach got a live action that flopped tho, they sure as hell tried
>>287241815You would, if they got Live Action versions. In fact:https://screenrant.com/naruto-live-action-movie-cretton-update-tasha-huo/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(2018_film)
>>287237827I don't like the cast, too many forced diversity and racial projection. Usopp is not black and Luffy is not mutt spic. Same as Vivi not being jeet. From what I've seen it was extremely BORING. Why they cannot do normal stuff like during the 2000's anymore?
>>287237827marketing and normalfags
>>287242051Please properly learn english
>>287237924>I wouldn't imagine something as cartoonish as One Pieve to work.Kung Fu Hustle is considered one of the best martial arts movies and it is also very cartoonish, and people will give praise to Black Dynamite because of how goofy it is.
>>287238779Damn OPjeets don’t even bother denying it anymore
>>287242051worst thing is my normalfag family liked both seasons meanwhile Bleach LA was a massive flop. Why are people so forgiving with the cgi in OP but harsh with cgi in other live actions?
>>287237827>What is it that made the One Piece LA so successful?Being One Piece. They could make a movie just about Usopp shitting himself and it would still be a success.
>>287237827Honestly it has some problems and i wouldn't say it's perfect, but the sets and costumes alone make it surprisingly cool to see in reality, it almost feels like watching some pseudo pirate history with like real people.
>>287237827>Netflix says his Netflix series did well at NetflixNo way...
>>287237827why is one piece so popular among less developed countries?i honestly dont understand.
>>287242051Blame Oda. One Piece is supposed to have representation from almost every broad ethnic category. Of course since it's Netflix they will have fewer whites though.
>>287242051I do hope they stop doing that, i hate how they change the characters races, imagine if they get to skypiea and enel is black.
>>287243284he'll be Indian sry, t.Netflix
As a Dragon Ball, I unironically want to see how a live action TV show would do if it's made by people who loves the series and it doesn't suck.
I still feel second-hand embarrassment when I try to watch an episode no matter how much people praise it. Even leaving the cartoon aspect aside, the acting for a lot of characters I've seen is just painful. Especially Luffy.
>>287237827kill yourself
>>287244631Iñaki is easily the best part of this LA, because he's a One Piece fan first and foremost. He's easily the most passionate actor among the Straw Hats.
>>28723782716 million? Isn't that Spain's population or something?
>>287237827Jeets and Brazilians shilling
>>287245046I mean the character looks and sounds retarded in most scenes with that psychopath smile. The idea that this guy is constantly inspiring everyone he runs into is beyond unbelievable, unlike in the anime where a cartoon Luffy way more exaggerated can actually inspire not just other characters but the viewer himself.I just can't fathom how anyone buys it.
