If those weapons are effective while being wielded in an ungainly bipedal robot, they'd be effective on any other chassis. They just wanted the giant humanoid robot fantasy to work in a semi-grounded way, so they contrived everything possible to make it seem plausible.

It limits their effective range, but it means they can operate within jammer fields. You see the fiber optic drones on the front lines, but long range wireless drones and gliders are still being used for infrastructure raids, because you can't operate jammers in civilian airspace.
