It has become pretty clear that big mechas would need to be rewritten now based on how obsolete using big expensive gear is now in modern drone warfare.
>>
They're only obsolete if you have no imagination.
>>
>>287240055
Just stick a CIWS on them
>>
>>287240055
>glazes drones
>Mercurius and Vayeight were hopelessly shit
>Leo and Taurus dolls hopelessly shit
>Virgo and Serpent dolls only useful in overwhelming numbers
>Death Army mass produced models only good because they're made of evil regenerating unobtanium metal
I think only the original RX-78 would lose to any of the drones in a Gundam series 1v1.

Gundams have been drone carriers for like 40 years already lol
>>
>>287240055
It's fine, mecha were already nonsensical anyway. Half the mecha series already in existence already have made up some technobabble about why drones won't work. Or, even better, just pretend drones don't exist and then have the protagonist use/create drones in a 99 IQ move that wins the day. I guarantee it's going to happen someday.

Are they?

>big mechas would need to be rewritten now based on how obsolete using big expensive gear is now in modern drone warfare.
Yeah because mechs were always focused on realism you dumb shit.
*shoots million lasers in every direction vaporizing all of your drones at once*

mecha isnt about combat prowess or advantages. big ass robots are cool. that's it.

Now your drones are destroyed and you look really silly.

Gundam Wing went over this 30 years ago.

More dangerous than a human army with the same equipment, and easier to replace.

Where should i start with Gundam?
I liked transformers but it turned gay and retarded, Mecha anime aint my cup of tea but i liked Code Geass more than Evangelion so theres that.

I'm pretty sure the equivalent of drones in a Gundam series would be Funnels, Bits, and those remote control weapons deployed from a Mobile Suit.

if that's your taste start with Gundam Seed

Easier to replace than an ace pilot, sure, but a Virgo cost like a hundred normal Leos and a Serpent, especially the Custom, probably costs more than the original HeavyArms.

After that watch anything that catches your fancy.
Only ones you should definitely skip are:
>Twilight Axis
>build fighters Try
And
>Witch of Mercury
The rest rest range from mediocre to Amazing.

Witch is good if you like (yuri) romance and CGDCT.

gundams were obsolete when they were introduced if you judged it by real life combat, that was the entire point of minovsky particles disabling everyone's precision guidance

>make story about how drone mechs are better cause no pilots, can control hundreds at a time blablabla
>super efficient, superior to humans
>warfare is drones vs drones
>suddenly everything is focused on trying to sabotage each others drones
>one faction's drones get hacked somehow, or easily hacked/hijacked, causing issues
>introduce....a PILOTED MECH! Something nobody does anymore in this setting cause it's too "dangerous" to risk a skilled person in war
>skilled MC pilot constantly exceeds expectations, etc..
It all comes full circle to piloted mechs

Due to cancer-inducing jamming a lot of drones in ukraine battlefield are fiber optic ones ie they're all being guided by meatbags.

Yeah, what a great start to a gundam thread
>>
>>287254681
The minovsky particles still didn't make mobile suits practical. It simply doesn't make any logical sense because giving a gigantic beam rifle to a humanoid robot shouldn't make it anymore effective than a beam rifle mounted on a ship. Likewise for any other weapon mounted on or carried by a mobile suit: there's no reason they couldn't be put on a more efficient platform. If those weapons are effective while being wielded in an ungainly bipedal robot, they'd be effective on any other chassis.

It's not as though the mobile suits were especially mobile, either, despite their name. They're actually far more limited in their maneuverability than specially designed craft.

They just wanted the giant humanoid robot fantasy to work in a semi-grounded way, so they contrived everything possible to make it seem plausible.
>>
>>287242093
This. Funnels? Bits? Hello?
>>
>>287254997
That was pretty much always the case with FPV drones. Fiber optic just means they're wired instead of wirelessly controlled. It limits their effective range, but it means they can operate within jammer fields. You see the fiber optic drones on the front lines, but long range wireless drones and gliders are still being used for infrastructure raids, because you can't operate jammers in civilian airspace.
>>
>>287240055
drones would only work with ai, not remote control due to minosky particles.
the whole reason we got gundams with giant guns and swords and shit over tanks/planes is the versatility in movement and meme particles killing radar.

It's bad at romance and CGDCT. But yrufags will gobble up any garbage as long as it's yuri.

Gundam romances are painfully bad on average, so it's easily one of the better ones just by having both members be cute, likable, active in the plot, play off each other well, developed onscreen over time, emotionally engaging... fuck it, it's just a good romance period, with an S2 asterisk like most Gundams post-2000.
>>
>>287240055

>cute, likable, active in the plot, play off each other well
It may cater to shipfags, but it has nothing to do with the quality of romance itself.
>developed onscreen over time
It only "developes" when plot demands it, too much time is wasted on bait with Elan, simp dude with harem, angry dude etc. It's like suits wanted to be "progressive" but were afraid to fully commit to yrishit.
>>
Oh, it's THIS retard again...

>>287240055
Gundams never made sense. Why would you design a giant killing machine and give it human anatomy? Why does it have legs, and why do they walk instead of using tank treads or wheels? Why does it have arms instead of just replacing them with guns? Why does it have a head at all when the pilot is in the chest? Why does it have beam sabers when a gun is infinitely more effective for all scenarios? Why is the pilot always a teenage boy instead of a trained soldier?

That's what makes mechs fun though, the suspension of disbelief and coming up with sci-fi explanations for why it looks the way it does despite being totally impractical in real life.
>>
>>287257952
cause minovsky particles.
>>
>>287257952
>why do people like robots and not tanks
>mecha should be about tanks

Maybe watch a show about tanks if you love tanks so much, faggot

>It may cater to shipfags, but it has nothing to do with the quality of romance itself.
What qualities make for a good romance to you? My thinking is that I need to enjoy it on some level, and that viewer investment is the bottom line. And those are easier to achieve if I like the characters and/or their interactions. I'd even say it's a requirement, since I struggle to think of a counterexample.
>>
>>287257952
>Why does it have legs, and why do they walk instead of using tank treads or wheels? Why does it have arms instead of just replacing them with guns?
The Guntank is a thing

Either way, maybe Battletech/Mechwarrior might be what you are looking for
(Just ignore everything after 2001 afaik, with the exception of Mechwarrior 5)
>>
>>287258564
>I struggle to think of a counterexample
Something like El5n and Norea might get close, since they're kinda bastards separately, but locking them in a room together drew out some sympathetic qualities that made you root for them to run off together. Even then, I'd still count that as liking their interactions, and not disliking them too much individually. But the pairing did improve their likability rather than vice-versa.
>>
>>287258419
GuP is my favourite anime ever, but there just are barely any good tank anime. The japs associate tanks with a war they lost that they really don't want to talk about.
Mecha is their way to make war stories without having to remember that war happened.
>>
>>287258419
you completely missed my point. I don't like tanks or jets more than mechas but you can't really argue that a humanoid mecha is more practical for warfare than a tank, and even tanks are becoming antiquated due to drone warfare exposing how immobile they are.

ironically mechs would be more useful for manual labor type work, like a gigantic bionic exoskeleton as a replacement for cranes.

or like, I guess you could show off the "maneuverability" of mechs over traditional military vehicles by having the cockpit be a DDR mat like in G Gundam(?) sorry if I'm misremembering. at least that would justify the humanoid anatomy of Gundams by allowing the pilot to move exactly like a human instead of using normal controls. and yes I know that's exactly what "newtypes" are supposed to be but the fact non-newtype pilots have to drive a mobile suit the same way they drive a helicopter makes the design seem useless.
